January 12, 200917 yr I bet it is hard to loose weight underpressure. For instance, since I've had a bit of no-lifing, I've gotten unhealthy. I'm not chubby or anything... Im just a guy with a good metabolism, that has gotten as stiff as a deepfried fruton. I feel pressure from myself to get myself back in-shape again. It is really hard and I bet loosing wiegh is even harder! Maybe as hard as trying to escape a RS addiction :ohnoes: I think that there is 2 stand points in this: a) The guy could loose wieght before getting the child. It would take alot of hard work on his part, but if he has the will... he can do anything : B) The guy could get the child, then loose weight. Also, adding on to this and I don't mean this in an offensive way, but if the fat man gets a fat boy, then maybe they could work together and loose some pounds? It would help the man get closer with his "son" for sure :D
January 12, 200917 yr Now Iunno how accurate this is,in the article he claims to be doing rather healthy stuff...Some people just have a slower mentabolism.Like eat a steak, get fat.Eat a salad, get fat. having a slow metabolism does not equal fat though, some people are luckier then others but that doesnt give anyone an excuse to be morbidly obese. Agreed. I'm a fan of the good old kick up the backside myself. Especially when it's so easy to get help from the NHS these days too! | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
January 13, 200917 yr You mean a new series of facepalms. I don't think anyone faceplants when they hear something really stupid, or at least not on purpose. Back OT, I agree with them. It's not a metabolism thing, you can't blame your metabolism for being that fat. I saw a documentary about a guy who weighed half a ton. "Guys, we're talking genetics here. I don't eat like a pig." *Camera zooms onto some of the multiple plates around couch* Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude? Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you? Camera guy: still laughing Matt: You want the funny shit that happens here and there, you think it comes out of your [bleep]ing [wagon] pushes garbage can down, don't you? You think it's funny? It comes out of here! running towards Camera guy Camera guy: runs away still laughing Matt: You think the funny comes out of your mother[bleep]ing creativity? Comes out of Satan, mother[bleep]er! nn--ngh! pushes Camera guy down Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]! Matt: FUNNY ISN'T REAL! FUNNY ISN'T REAL!
January 13, 200917 yr Now Iunno how accurate this is,in the article he claims to be doing rather healthy stuff...Some people just have a slower mentabolism.Like eat a steak, get fat.Eat a salad, get fat. But yeah all angry over this subject has washed away with a good night's sleep.I won't turn this in to a whole he's fat, you're not,you don't understand kind of thing. Oh and faceplant is a new level of facepalm. You know when you're so pissed you just want to ram someone's head into a wall?Faceplant. Slow metabolism isn't a reasonable excuse for being obese, just means you have to work harder. I'm not built for rugby, does that mean I have a valid excuse for being a poor player? No, just means I have to work harder. Don't blame your problem on a relatively minor issue, it's down to you putting in the work.
January 13, 200917 yr Viewing the article and taking the pathos away from it... There is a difference between being obese... For example maybe 90 kilos and being 5'6 and being 155 kilos. 155 kilos is life threatening. As it has already been advised by medical professionals. They're not called "medical professionals" for the fun of things. He may not drink, he may not smoke, he may not sit in front of the tv and eat junk food every day. But medical professionals would obviously have already assessed him for any other potential problems, such as thyroid etc Perhaps his only problem is he needs to exercise. In which if he has an healthy eating habit, it will fall off him like flowers at the end of spring. Even though he doesn't drink or smoke, that doesn't mean it's not what made him fat to begin with either. Perhaps 10 years ago he drank a 6 pack every night and smoked like a chimney. Now he's left with a beer gut that he hasn't worked off and one side effect of giving up smoking in some individuals is weight gain. Of course I feel sorry for him, he may be the BEST dad in the world. He may have a lot of positive qualities about him, absolutely. But his feelings and qualifications DO NOT come, before a child's best interests. The most important issue here, is the child. And professionals have taken this in to account. The adopted child at least deserves a father who can run around with him and play games and be around for the next 18 years. That being said, I'm not saying people in wheel chairs shouldn't adopt because they can't run around with their children. Emotional support is essential in good parenting. But if the adopted child has a parent who is capable of doing something about their limitations, then they should be doing everything in their power to give the child that sort of experience. I don't know why he is complaining about it. If I was 155 kilos and I was told I couldn't adopt a child because of concerns about my health, I would be on that treadmill every, single day. Better yet I wouldn't even put my application in to adopt a child until I battled my own limitations anyway to give that child, the BEST possible life. All he has to do, is drop a bit of weight and he can adopt a child. When you look at things like that, it's a lot less emotional and it can be done in a lousy 4 weeks if he gave it enough effort. That being said, I'm sure he will have enough motivation to lose weight if he were allowed to adopt the child. He would have a REASON to get healthy. As for cancer patients etc - As sorry as I am for their situation, if you have an extremely high chance that you will die in the next 18 years, it's not in the best interest of the child. Some of these children have already been through enough trauma without losing two sets of parents. That and I'm sure cancer patients would understand if they're about to drop dead in the next two years why it isn't fair to the child. If they couldn't, as unfortunate as their situation was, it would be extremely selfish. Children are our future. As discriminatory as his situation is, he can sit there and complain to the media. He can seek legal action. He can get angry. He can get a support group happening. He can write nasty letters. Or he can get off his [wagon], lose weight and give a child a for filling life. Oh and by reading his responses, he is giving the impression that he's more angry at the fact that he's been portrayed and stereotyped as the kind of obese man who sits on the couch, drinks a lot, eats take away every night than not being able to adopt the child and his feelings are hurt by the impression they (the adoption agency) left him with. He places a lot of emphasis on this point. Less time complaining, more time exercising. You can do it buddy, do it for the child. And yes you are a good man, you don't need to convince the world, you only need to convince yourself! The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
January 13, 200917 yr Middle aged men dying of heart disease because they're morbidly obese certainly isn't unheard of. I think it was a smart decision on the whole.

January 13, 200917 yr Thin underweight people would probably have more stamina to deal with a child. Even more so than themselves. ^ Blog.

January 13, 200917 yr I'd much rather see a kid with a kind loving lard than a skinny crackhead. Crackheads don't tend to adopt kids really... They just tend to have a lot of them the natural way. Then have their kids taken away by the child protective services, because they are unfit parents. OT: If he really wants a kid, then he should loose the weight. Even with the worst metabolism in the world can loose weight. However, you could be on a very healthy diet, but it doesn't mean squat if you don't exercise. If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.
January 13, 200917 yr I agree that maybe he should change, but honestly, some of you lot judge people way overboard. I'm not exactly "thin" and i wouldn't appreciate some of the things said here. His situation isn't great but come on guys, everyone can change, maybe he already is trying to. And all this you don't care how he must feel try and put yourself in the same situation; where you're not allowed to adopt just because of the way you are. I personally wish him luck. :|

I personally wish him luck. :| He's over 340 lbs. There's a difference between being a little hefty and being morbidly obese. The former may be because of genetics or snacking a bit too much. The latter is entirely their fault. They aren't being denied a child because they're black or something like that; they're being denied because someone that overweight can't properly care for a child. As star_in_the_sky said, this is very similar to a black person playing the race card when they're in trouble.
January 14, 200917 yr Eh, it makes sense though. Morbid obesity can lead to diabetes, which can lead to death, hypertension, etc. etc. etc. It's no different from having cancer, diabetes is fatal. January 14, 200917 yr I've spoken to someone with experience about adoption and he thinks that any sort of caring home that a child can get should be taken into consideration. If you want to bring up how parents should be physically active with their children, then look around. There are many kids who never even played with their parents and while it might be sad, a lot of them grew up to be fine. If you want to bring up how the parents should be in good health because there is a higher chance of death which would leave the child homeless, then just remind yourself about where the child came from in the first place. I'm sure if the parent died then that wouldn't put the child on the street - it would put him back in the adoption center or he would inherit the wealth of the deceased. Either way, I don't see why that should stop anyone from being adopted. If you want to bring up how the parents should exercise, then that's something we can agree on. If the parent can take the initiative to workout and lose weight for the sole purpose of having a kid then they are very fit to be a parent indeed.
