I was thinking more tying it on. Slightly less hazardous, plus you get to keep more of them till the actual fight. Dunno that an axe would be in character, what with Guthix getting his power from nature and the tree gnomes worshiping him, but the others sound good. Maybe a glaive.. Kebbit [bleep]es + Granite Maul perhaps? Either way, I think a massive 2h rock would be good. It deflects a lot of attacks, and you can also smack your enemies on the head with it.
