This is great news for anybody who suffers from this allergy, it really is one of the worst allergy's you can have, severly limiting your qualiy of life, restricting you to a very select number of foods and drinks. This cure is great news for anybody who suffers from this, and the tests are now being expanded into more areas, such as milk and egg allergy's.

 

 

 

 

 

In short, the cure is giving people tiny amounts of a peanut flour, slowly building up their immune system to peanuts.

 

 

 

 

 

I just wondered what people think of the news.

According to the tv news report earlier, it was done over 6 months. They got gradually increasing amounts of the flour everyday until they went on to actual nuts. I think one of the kids is up to 10 per day now. The only catch is that they have had to eat nuts every day to keep up their tolerance level.

Nut allergies are gods sign you shouldn't be alive.

It's not about nuts, it's about peanuts! It's a huge difference. And it doesn't severely limiting your quality of life.

Lol, oh well. I have numerous friends and family members with nut allergies, so this is good news. Although I'm surprised they didn't think of this sooner.

I'm lactose intolerant, but after drinking milk every day for almost a year now, I'm not a quarter as bad as I used to be. Does this count as a miracle cure?

Although it's just for peanuts, hopefully they can use it as a springboard for other nuts. Medical Science is moving quickly these days :thumbsup:

Didn't some emporer or something who was scared of being poisoned do something like this so he was immune to poison?

A nut allergy and peanut allergy seem to be pretty interchangeable. I don't know anyone allergic to cashews. And the allergy does really limit someone's life. They can't eat anything that has nuts in it or may have even come into contact with them for fear of a severe reaction. They have to ask at restaurants and make sure peanut oil isn't used to fry stuff. Constantly checking is annoying and tiring.

On a lighter note. I find it ridiculous that nobody's done this. I'd proposed it to a friend with allergies against peanuts, but he called me stupid and hit me for it.

It's always the mystical "they" that have to think of something, and then when "they" do people complain about how it was obvious all along and "they" shouldn't have been paid to do it.

 

 

 

(This is coming from a psychology researcher whose subject is often accused of telling people things that they already know. Building up tolerance for things by starting small is something that psychology has been doing for decades as a way of coping with phobias.)

Actually, this is a little exiting. Even though the peanut is actually apea and not a nut, its still nice to see a breakthrough in medicine that ill actually help people, and no just make their boobs bigger.

And if the allergy limits their lives its just slightly, not severely, I think I know that better than you since I'm allergic and I doubt you are. And I dont care if he's joking about god or not (and how would you know if he did?) I'm pissed at him since he basically tells me that I should go and die.

 

Lastly I didn't mean to write that we keep things to lens (whatever that means) but to clean, I dunno how I managed to write that.

I swear, some people get rich and famous by doing little to nothing at all. Of course, credit is given to them for actually testing it. If I were allergic to something, I would definitely not try it anytime.

I think i forgot to mention that they had already tried injecting people with small amounts of the allergen in the 90's but it was scapped for some reason.

I don't think anyone in my family has allergies.

This is old news, it was discovered around 8-10 years ago. Because thats when the doctor suggested it to me. XD I guess they mean a lot smaller though.

I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant (also by confirmed laboratory tests/blood samples), at about 11 or 12 I just started hating not being able to eat regular ice cream, milk, etc... So I started eating & drinking things containing milk just as normal. The entire condition went away by about age 15. I could drink 5 glasses of milk or eat portions of ice cream at friends' birthday parties etc

 

 

 

Not that it's advisable at all for most people; If you're allergic to something, just the smell alone can cause serious respiratory aches or worse... But the 'exposure' method can definitely work
