Is man friendship considered too much gay these times?

Featured Replies

Hey,

today I've been thinking at work about this thing.

You've got women that when being friends with other women generally touch themselves, hug themselves, or even kiss themselves often, for example when they greet and goodbye each other.

But then, when men are nice to each other, they are immediately considered GAY. It's probably a bit because of the recent gay bashing ( and no I am not gay, I'd kill myself if I'd found out so ) and the "toughness" and "alphamanliness" that is man considered to have. You sometimes see a random pat on the back or some cool handshake, but would a man ever say "He is my good friend? Or a best mate?"

People often go   when they find out my book is about seven best friends AND NO WOMEN.

So, what do you think that is behind this?

^ my book :^_^:

I don't play anymore, but I'm grateful I played through the best RS times!

I can only act 'friendly' with either my brother, or direct cousins whom I'm very close with, both female and male. I don't consider it "gay", I don't have anything against gay people either so I couldn't give a damn what some angry skinhead teen thinks is "gay" either way.

If anything, I find most of western culture repugnant when it comes to family and close friendly relations. Everybody is distant, avoids their non-immediate family and usually doesn't want to have much to do with them.

Slavic countries and Italy have got it right though, even the distant relatives get taken care of, if they bear your blood and family name, they are like your own family & help you with business, you help them, take sick elderly relatives to a hospital, lend money at zero interest, to an extent you practically share your life with them etc...

That's because most men in society are either complete homphobes, too stupid to understand giving another guy a hug isn't gay, or being nice to other guys isn't gay, and, because most men don't want women to think they aren't manly, most women find that unattractive.

( and no I am not gay, I'd kill myself if I'd found out so )

Gee, that's a great way to start a topic.

Anyhow, I find that affection often tends to end conflits. If some jerk and I are arguing, in the middle of the fight, I'll offer a hug. If he accepts, yay, fight's over. If not, the awkward silence tends to break the ice.

On the flip side, it's been proven that women are probably better mothers

Yes I have balls, but they melted.

I see nothing wrong with male-to-male hugs and I'll do it too sometimes, but when they spank each other on the butt I think that's when the line is crossed.

Every so often I'll give/recieve a sort of arm slap when I say "hey, how's it going?", nothing gay in that.

I don't get where you're coming from. Guys here hug each other just as a greeting. I'm not even that comfortable with the cool, long handshakes, though.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

The irony in that is most of the guys who do that, are huge homophobes.

In my school the only thing you can do with another guy without being called a [bleep], is those creepy hand things.

Yeah, spanking is a sports oriented thing and sports is a redneck oriented thing and homophobia is a redneck oriented thing. Okay, that's enough generalizations from me. :-#

My best friend and I are hardly "gay" and we hug occasionally after not seeing one another for a very long time or if we are about to be separated for a long time. Because we are good friends and do love (as in the friendly kind) each other. Now, it certainly is a "man" hug but that's besides the point :P.

There is nothing wrong with being friendly with a guy. If someone tells you otherwise, they are an idiot who sells themselves short on friends.

I've noticed this too. Loads of "lesbians" (whether serious or for attention) make out and hold hands in my school and no body says a thing. When two guys say it, its instantly shot down. Men are the biggest homophobes of the two genders, and the most sexually desired. This much is fact.

So is it okay for women to spank each other on the butt?

I'll be honest, when I think of male-to-male hugging, it makes me feel uncomfortable. I've just never seen it before (irl)..

edit: sounds cute though..? -nervous laughter-

WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME

#1 Wongtong stalker.

Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

Bear hugs. Competitions of crushing strength, and all of that.

>.>

Normal hugs are fine too. I'm of sub-continental heritage, and it's commonplace in the culture.

Though usually that social interaction is reserved for very close friends and family.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here..."

Nothing wrong with a little bro-mance

There's a difference between males and females when it comes to interaction. Females open up emotionally, go to the bathroom together, have slumber parties, play with dolls, go on shopping sprees, etc. etc. You can't interchangeably apply the same logic between genders.

So yeah, I guess it is okay for females to spank each other.

In my school the only thing you can do with another guy without being called a [bleep], is those creepy hand things.

Er, a handshake?

I don't readily show affection for anyone, but I'm comfortable with myself, so a "man hug" isn't awkward. In my experience, people (males) who are awkward about such things are either homophobes or teenagers since those are the people who are going to be the least comfortable about themselves.

I think its disappointing that some people see sexuality as so important. I couldn't care if someone is gay. They can be whatever they want. So going from there, I think that most of society (Or at least the one that exists where I live), is much too afraid of being seen as homosexual. If they do something they think is even mildly on the man-loving side, they'll immediately say 'No homo,' and it pisses me off very much. If you're confident that you aren't 'homo' why even bother pointing it out? Me and my friends always joke around, most of the time ending up in some very awkward situations. We don't say 'No homo', we just laugh about it. It's like being mature. If you have to tell someone you're mature, you *probably* aren't.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Girls at my school compare breast sizes just while they're walking around. It's kinda wierd. But, you know, whatever floats their boats.

no, the terrorist fist bump, or a wierd high five, or the hand slidey thing. You never know what it's gonna be.

Haha, my tennis doubles partner and I had one in between points, not too intricate though since that would be poor sportsmenship.

I hug all my friends as a greeting or goodbye, gender doesn't matter. Everyone I know do the same. Hell, I've even kissed most of them (male and female friends) on new year's.

So much for the stereotype that all Scandinavians are cold and distant!
