Ignoring won't work. There are some things you just can't ignore. Luckily, I avoided most of this back in high school - I was over 6' by sophmore year, and I had a talent for quick wit\insults that made anyone who tried to make fun of me just look stupid.

 

 

 

I saw a lot of it going on with other people, though. Sad to say, I never really tried to help them. I look back now and wish I'd stood up for the underdog more, who knows how I could have changed their lives :|

It also depends to what extent, and sometimes people won't stop and that's the only way they can learn not to, but in most cases violence won't solve the issue.

I got picked on for a few things. I was fat but then I lost a whole heap of weight and was almost anorexic by definition. At one stage I didn't walk with my shoulders back so I got called hunch back :lol: but I soon wizened up when honest people told me what I was doing wrong. Then when I first started high school my front teeth were crooked so I got teased a lot for that but when I got my braces that stopped too. I didn't have my shoe laces tied up once and one of the girls who didn't like me stood on it and tripped me up and so I pushed her down the stairs, that was the end of that...

 

 

 

There were a lot of good things too though for example I hardly ever got a pimple while everyone else seemed to get them everywhere so I used to tease them back for that. And everyone else who used to tease me started packing on the weight so I got my own back there too. I used to get threatened to be bashed but I got sick of it and fought back until I was bashed by these 2 girls (new zealanders) who were built like men so I got really scared :P

 

 

 

I got bashed by 2 grown men when my best friend got jumped at a concert. I wasn't thinking, just running on adrenalin and started laying in to the guy but it didn't do very much, they kept throwing me to the ground. Then the fight got broken up, saw my mate in the back of the ambulance with blood all over his face and I lost it, I found one of the guys (the smaller one) alone, walked up to him and punched him in the nose. Then that went around Darwin high for years that he got bashed by a girl and he wasn't popular anymore.

 

 

 

I was a bully at one stage I remember I didn't like this girl and I have no idea why. I used to tell everyone she had fleas and walked like a man. Poor girl, I found her on facebook and said sorry :P I also spread around that her best friend was a lesbian :shame: until I met her older brother, he and I ended up really good friends. I have her on my facebook now too, she's a catwalk model!!! yeah eat my words.

 

 

 

I spread around that one of my ex's only had one ball (we didn't get up to anything) but he annoyed me and I didn't know just how bad my rumor would spread. People in his photography class caught on to it and so they dacked him and took a photo and turns out he really did!!!!!!!!!!! :shock: I couldn't stop apologizing to the poor guy.

Technically "name calling" can be found as a criteria under the definition of domestic violence. It also falls under "intimidation", "harassment" [edit1] "put downs" and [edit2] "emotional abuse".

Na, there were people I disliked, they disliked me... We never bullied each other, just talked trash, maybe fight. Mostly in my younger days, I saw some kids get bullied, didn't care, I only cared if the kid was mentally [developmentally delayed]ed or something. Other than that, stick up for yourself, jeez. High school? In my high school most leave each other alone, around here there's a lot of gangs, so there's gang brawls sometimes after school, but it doesn't happen very often. And since I'm not a apart of gang, I don't join in :D

Sadly, chances are, it would take some interesting methods to show him, but there are ways without directing it at him. I hate referencing TV shows especially in things like this, but a decent example of a quick bit of verbal abuse would be the House episode where Cuddy (the female boss of House) is given temporary custody of a sick kid through some randomness, and when he gets progressively worse and worse (this is right after she tried in vitro to get pregnant, it failed), House (when he's mad that he wasn't allowed to do something he thought necessary by Cuddy) says something to the effect of "It's a good thing you didn't get pregnant, because you suck as a mother." To you or me, that wouldn't be very serious. To her at the time, though, it would be basically the most psychologically excruciating thing to have ever happened. THAT is what verbal abuse is. It's basically psychological torture, minus the interrogation room. The words change from person to person, but the effect and purpose remains the same.

It isn't JUST words. People say like that you don't need violence to solve problems, words can do all that yada yada save the world ect. But then go and say 'It's just a bunch of words, ignore them!'. Bleh.
