Pokemon RBY: The Real Pokemon Games

Featured Replies

Yeah, I beat pokemon blue back in the day. Caught missingno too! I've played a few of the new ones and they really haven't introduced any new gameplay mechanics. Shame.

They have, but no good ones. And all (or most) the new Pokés are just mass products.

Every generation has added something new, besides ridiculous numbers of pokémon. The "select" button for quick use of a key item, for example. I wish I could find my old blue version, but I think my cousin's ex-boyfriend has it now.

Select button (or Y in DS games) and pockets have been the best updates I think. And the ability to, for example, cut down a tree by just walking next to it and pressing 'A' instead of opening menu, choosing Pokémon list, choosing a Pokémon with Cut and choosing the move. It was really boring.

In my opinion, Pokemon Gold and Silver were the best. They took RBY and made it better in every way. More Pokemon (and pokemon that have a use e.g. Tyranitar). Good storyline. Access to Two proper 'full' regions (Johto and Kanto), while you could count the Sevii islands as another region, they are not a region as I would define. And the list goes on. Pokemon Crystal wasn't exactly the best of the '3rd in the generation' games. Presumably the only thing it really added was a legitimate way to get Celebi and the Battle Tower. Since both of the legendaries (i.e. Lugia and [garden tool]-oh) were obtainable in both Gold and Silver, it restricted the amount of Cross-game trading needed (good if you only had friends with one of the games).

While RBY were all good games, I do think that Gold and Silver were vastly superior.

I agree completely.

RBY and GSC were awesome, but RSE sucked so bad in comparison. DPP took a step back in the right direction, though not quite big enough of a step. But IDC, I still play them a lot anyways.

Pokemon designs need to be like RBY/GSC. Most newer poemon are just lame.

Thanks to Killerwat for the sig!

I'd like to see the next games have a bit more variety, personally. Every time I play them I end up with a similar team. Say, something other than the basic bird and rodents at the beginning.

I usually end up with very different teams, unless I try to get the same ones each time. Like right now, I'm using Dragonite, Tyrannitar, Charizard, Blaziken, Pikachu, and Empoleon/Torterra on Diamond and Pearl. But I never look in the same places twice in a row if I don't want the same teams.

That's a very bad team dude. First off you have way too many starters. 4 starters on a team is asking for death. Secondly your other 2 are extremly overused and are way too easy to counter.

The fact that my one starter on my team (Empoleon) could take out 5 of your pokemon (If you use Torterra) is really bad.

I have never cared about strength. Like a person said on GSC, real trainers try to win with their favourites.

You have to balance power with your favorites to have a team that has a chance of winning.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Thats fine against the A.I.

But when it comes to online, you have to optimise your team to stand a chance.

If you were battling against a friend, then I'd have no problem with using a favourite party, cause its for fun and they'll be using theirs. (Incidentally, me and my mate always used Rayquaza on R/S, I used Groundon and he had Kyogre, we used Legendaries against each other, but it was fun.)

Last time I checked starters were good pokemon.

Having 'too many starters' is like having 'too many OU's' in an OU game.

Plus, Winning with pokemon that arent just good, but are your faves is how the ingame should be played.

Btw Riku, Empoleon doesnt stand a chance against an Adamant Torterra with 1 swordsdance and baton'ed speed (Or trick room).

Overall in Diamond and Pearl, starters got thrown around. Torterra's stats own Empoleon AND infernape, and infernape can OHKO empoleon if it's correctly used too.

Empoleon is good due to its defence but its slow.

(Torterra is too, but Torterra can STAB earthquake, be trick roomed, and subseed)

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Empoleon + Ice Beam = dead Torterra.

Sorry guys but it's true, which is why Empoleon is king of DPP.

Torterra hung on with focus band, torterra used earthquake, empoleon fainted. And if the torterra was baton passed with speed up in or trick room is in effect that empoleon will get hit twice.

Besides Swampert>Empoleon.

400% grass damage with 5 resistances > 200% fight, electric, and ground with 12 resistances?

The only pokemon on his team that can learn Baton Pass is Blaziken. Blaziken is in no way going to be able to power itself up and then switch to Torterra. Also none of his pokemon can learn Trick Room.

I was refering to in general. Heck if I make a team that used him there would be trick room in there somewhere. Most likely a bronzong.

It doesn't matter, Gliscor is the best baton passer in my opinion. Great defenses, and can pass off attack and speed boosts :D

Sure if you don't fight anything that can use Powder Snow.

I wish I hadn't lost my Gold. Best game ever. I remember I had a level 100 fire pokemon. Then RBE came out. I went to the store and played it. Amazing, so I got it for my birthday. Not nearly as good as Gold, but still dang fun. DPP came out a couple years later. I bought that and loved it. Too bad my DS is dead. I still have my Diamond. DPP are probably the most hated in the series, but I liked them.

All I do is the AI, although if my cousin wanted I would go against him. I don't use the wi-fi, at least not right now, so there is no point in searching for "the ultimate team" when mine will do.

I have yet to see anything in OU running Powder Snow.

Point was that if you're fighting a pokemon that can learn an ice type attack your not going to pull it off.

Eh, it's a good point, since any ice move would be an OHKO or a 2HKO.

I still find it more tankish than most other baton passers though.
