Cross country at my school is half serious. We play capture the flag for 20 minutes warming up, work out, come back and relax. Before races and the final meet, we'll play Ultimate Frisbee. Come track season, we get serious then. 99 FM Acheived on Friday December 26th 2008Click for my blog|Mass Effect Discussion Thread|Nation Creation/Create your own Country Forums
Zygimantas
The training we do in XC and distance track is only slightly different. The 800m is my favorite race, so thats really why I like track better. 99 Hunter - November 1st, 200899 Cooking -July 22nd, 200999 Firemaking - July 29th, 201099 Fletching - December 30th, 2010

The 800m is my favorite race, so thats really why I like track better.I did the 800 twice. I hate it. Its the most painful race I've ever ran. For track I run 1600s and 3200s, but I really just treat track as xc preseason. Saru Inc
I just ran 2k in about 10 mins. I was pretty disappointed, but it was my first run in a week, and I have moved and don't think I've acclimatised yet. I always forget 1km =/= 1m mile. I was like "thats pretty good!" Yea I can do 1km in like... 5.5 mins... I'm not a vury good runner. And holy crap was today humid, i soaked my whole shirt running and I only ran 1.5 miles LOL. (Usually I only sweat a tiny bit near the collar) Virginia beach is home to humidity and heat. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. topham
I finally ran more than 2k here. I ran 6k in 35 mins. I started slow so i didn't have to stop, and kept good pace once I found it. Its so ridiculously humid I'm soaked, but glad I finished my run. Hopefully back to being able to do 10k by next weekend if I can, if not then in 2 weeks I'll be able to. Edit: I ran 1.5k today in 6 mins 22 seconds. I think thats alright for my first attempt at a timed specific distance. noble_aloof
hope everybody is avoiding the heat.. this summers brutal we've had almost a dozen official 90 degree days. i finally decided to start taking whey protein and doing p90x ab ripper. I've also modified my usual workout program for more weight and lower reps.also been bench pressing and doing pushups regularly. this week marks our first 35mile week of our training so now the running is tougher. i've actually gained about 2 pounds in my first week of taking protein and i can feel the extra energy, however it really does flare up my acne which has mainly been dormant for over two years now. its also worth mentioning that i'm seeing and feeling better abs in my 3rd week of p90x. theres also a new running store opening soon which is good because i desperatly need new shoes. Bloodstain
Not sure if this has been brought up, but there is a great shoe that apparently is just the best thing ever for running. It's called the Vibram Five Finger shoe, it's basically like running barefoothttp://www.vibramfivefingers.com/ This the OFFICIAL website, and any other website is a knock off version of the shoe, so beware And here's a thread discussing how good they arehttp://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3171064 I've been considering getting a pair for general every day usage, but I'm torn since winter lasts pretty long and is too cold to wear these here
Aiel
ooor you could run barefoot...in terms of long term injury it probably equates to the same thing. You could, but the vibrams at least offer some protection while giving the barefoot feeling. I'm not sure what you mean by long term injury, but if you mean from running barefoot: there are none, it's the most natural way to run. noble_aloof
yes they were brought up in the early days of this thread but i'm glad you brought them up again because they are absolutely a revolutionary shoe. if i ever see a pair at a local running store and i have the chance to try them on, i will jump at the opportunity. for runners running on an extreme budget- i talked to a guy who said he logged over 1,200+mi on his pair of vibrams. the only reason they had to be replaced was because (according to him) the velcro literally stopped sticking and a sharp stick tore the mesh near mile 1100 Staking: 4+ mil Current Status: Training defense

Yeah, maybe a big piece or broken glass or a big ole nail (which would go through shoes anyway), but unless you live in a really dirty area/don't watch where you step there's probably a low chance of that. Likely wouldn't be long term either, just go to the hospital, get it pulled out, get stitches and voila good as new in a couple weeks. The soreness of first using them can be lessened if you slowly transition into them I've heard, haven't really heard of injury from using them as far as I can remember
tortilliachp
not direct injury, rather injury through lack of dampening, whatever terrain you run on. humans were built to run barefoot, but we weren't built to live to 40+ so running without real shoes causes ankle, knee and hip injuries that can be avoided, and should be avoided by the use of shoes, and avoiding to run on terrain like sand (which kills joints).
