Zygimantas
hi guys! spring is here and its good to see everyone is posting. i had my first exhibition meet last friday. i ran a 1600 in 5:13 and 800 at 2:18. our team went 1-2-3-4 in each of those (and 1-2-3 in the 2 mile) myself being 4th in each. i'm 15 and i only got beat by kids 17+ (by a small margin, at that), so i guess my winter training paid off. next friday is our first official meet and i'll be running the 800 against the reigning district champion who went about 1:57 last year 0.0 right now i'll set my goals ( i might not run some of these events, but just incase i do):10:30 32004:48 16002:03 80053 400 i really wasn't on here much during the winter, but a few guys and i ran regularly. we did several 55 mile weeks and we're now at an 11 mile long run. someone on the team also has a garmin so we have very accurate measurements on our runs. i'm seriously thinking of buying a pair of nike frees for over easter break aswell. well guys, its nice to be back in season. feel free to post your times and such With those times you would be the best distance runner in my school  well, a 10:30 2 mile is a far cry from the 9:36 PR that our best two miler ran last year to win the league championship (i've been training with him all winter)4:48 was only QUALIFYING time for the mile at districts last year (champion went 4:15, graduated)2:03 is probably the most ambitious time, and the 800 will be my main event so thats what im shooting for.a :53 400 wouldn't have even won me the freshman district title last year, but i doubt i'll be running the distance unless i get put in the 4x4 Our best 2-mile runner runs a 10:35Our best mile runner runs a 4:55Our best 800 runner runs a 2:05Our best 400m runner runs a 55 99 Hunter - November 1st, 200899 Cooking -July 22nd, 200999 Firemaking - July 29th, 201099 Fletching - December 30th, 2010

Skeptical
I used to love running when I was younger, but by the time I hit high-school, I absolutely hated it. I have patellofemoral syndrome, which is a knee problem, but after an excellent physiotherapist helped me fix it, I'd like to start again. I'm not really sure how to go about doing that? I'm fairly fit: I regularly play hockey and volleyball, and I ride an average of 100k a week during the summer, but I really can't run worth a damn. How should I start "practicing" for lack of a better word? "Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security." Star.
Guys, after I run I'm sore. The next day, I run through the soreness but it gets worse that I have to stop running for a while. Is this because I'm not stretching properly or because I started running with little preparation? My thighs, lower back/hips and upper back hurt the most. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢

Mr_Adam
Getting back into running quicker than I expected. Distances are still tough, but I've dropped back down to 8:08 over 3 mi compared to yesterdays 8:15. And I feel and know like I could do a lot better still, too. And the sucky weather doesn't help. I wish I had estimate times from last year, I never had a watch =\ @ Star: Thigh/Quads pain should be natural, I had plenty just last week >_> Your hips and back though, I'm not so sure of. It could be your posture? or even your shoes - last year my knees were blown out because I didn't have good shoes. I could barely use the stairs. Also, if you've just started running, how much have you been running?

See, I wouldn't like that workout unless there is a set distance I have to run in the 5 minutes. Usually, when I'm supposed to run hard for a certain amount of time, I go too fast and burn out with more than half of the time left to run. 99 Hunter - November 1st, 200899 Cooking -July 22nd, 200999 Firemaking - July 29th, 201099 Fletching - December 30th, 2010
Star.
I bought some new shoes specifically for running so I don't think it's that. I think my posture is fine too. Would running/slowly jogging downhill be the problem? There's a couple of steep hills on my small 2 mile route. I've started running mid of Feb and stopped a week and half ago. I've given up for the time being but I was planning to get back into routine on Monday. Soreness just kicks in unbearably after two days so I usually take a break on the third day. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢

Almost everyone is aware of the benefits of warming up before running. Equally important is warming down after running. That is what prevents stiffness, as lactic acid gets transported out of the muscles. Warming down consists of light jogging, where you don't get out of breath, but retain high circulation. We get advised to have a minimum 10 mins of warming down after activity, but 10% of effective training time is also a minimum. I.E. after playing a 3 hour tennis match, or running for 3 hours, I warm down for at least 18 minutes. stretching after excersise increases flexibility, it does not decrease sore/ stiffness. I wouldn't do interval training two days in a row either, unless you've been building up your form and excersise intensity over time.
noble_aloof
Hey guys. we had a meet today and we got crushed pretty bad. our opponents used the aforementioned 800 district champ in 4-5 events. it was about 38 outside today(well, yesterday since its 12:09am now). i actually thought i pulled my groin yesterday so i got put in the 1600 (instead of 800). i ran a 5:14 for 6th (again, only getting beaten by kids 17+ while i'm only 15) and i had a 2:26 for my first 800 (of the 1600) which is faster than more than half of our guys who ran the open 800. the other team just outsmarted us and actually mocked us on several occasions. in the 800 the 'champ' relaxed in third while we counted him turning around 7 times to his teammate (for no apparent reason except to make the race effortless). there was a pack of about 8 until the last turn where they decided to go crazy and swept 1-2-3. i have another meet next wensday and i'm going to try for a 2:15 split for the 4x8 relay and a >2:10 for the open 800. how's everyone elses season coming along? Any ideas on how to train for running under 5:00 for the 1600? high intensity interval training. 4 mins at 90% or more of your max puls, 2 mins at about 70% max puls. do 4 sets. Push upwards of your max puls in the last 15 seconds of each interval. Don't run HIIT 2 days in a row, but if you can, do it every two days. that is the most efficient way of training any aerob capacity, which is what all running, and other high intensity sports requires. I think you know the actual running strategies, so it's all about the actual fitness. good luck :)

I didn't know there was indoor state  It's called Prep Top Times; there's qualifying times or benchmarks for all events. It's just one meet, and a time run at any other meet counts (it doesn't work like the conference-regional-sectional progression of outdoors).
