Nobody really knows, and they don't want to set a release date either. They are going my MMG's philosophy of "release when awesome" now :P

They first said Q1 of 09, in my opinion I'm glad they didn't release it then and just said "We'll release it when we think it's good enough to be release". This would indicate that they care for the game and don't want to spoil it, and have learned from past game developers mistakes for releasing a game too early from pressure from publishers.

 

 

 

OR it's an elaborate marketing ploy to get us hyped up or "believe in" Jagex more that this game will be actually good.

 

 

 

Either way we still don't know when, as they didn't say any release date.

 

 

 

Assuming though that they thought they would have been ready for Q1 of 09, tells us the game has to be very close to being complete, as in the engine works, game physically works, animations and models are rendered appropriately, but things like content may still need either polishing, or bug fixing or even bug testing.

 

 

 

In my opinion I think they thought they'd be able to go on Q1, but then in October they implemented a major system to the game (like combat, large amount of Quests, a large mini-game, or something that is vital to the games success or a core feature of the game) but for some reason or another it didn't work as they had planned and couldn't fix it before January. Or this problem was solved but then it created either more problems or some other content had to be revised for the solution, which would be taking up a large amount of time.

 

 

 

Just my thoughts.

 

 

 

So if nothing problematic pops up we should get word about 'when' in June/July, since Q1 is already over, and Q2 is here. Just my opinion though.

Summer, I really believe. I'm basing this all off a Twitter thing from Jagex where they said they were launching a project in summer that will let you change your name. I will go on about this forever, I really think this is a sign of the launching of MechScape. I'm gonna be SO stoked if I'm right. :)

i dont care when its released, as i have goals on runescape as of now, and they should keep me occupied until MS comes out. they had just better not release it to early, when its not ready. that would be a disaster.

Well 2 months from now my rs subscription comes out: If mechscape has arrived (or announced) I doubt I'll update the subscription again.. (looking now: I haven't logged in to runescape for 3 weeks already).

The last time they actually named a date they said in spring 2009 now they're just saying when ever it is ready they will release it. Personally I would expect in the next few months, no later than august.

This sorta reminds me of the Darkfall release. People were told in 2005 that the game was near-ready and would be launched soon. Four years later the game is released and is half-done, if that. Not even 2/3s of the promised content made it to launch, and not to mention the mass amount of exploits in the game, like invisibility, speed hacks...etc.

 

 

 

Just hope we don't wait like that or a Duke Nukem is pulled over our heads, lol. Good game to that then.

That's an extreme, though. :lol: 100's of MMOs have been released and many of them past planned release dates, most of them with no more problems than expected. The Blokes @ Jagex have experience running one game already, and have learned a lot (despite what we might think on a bad day :twisted: ).

This pretty much sums up my thoughts except I don't really have any goals on RS right now and I am, for all practical purposes, semi-retired (I'm in the "I only play mini-games for maybe 30 min's a day" phase :lol: ).

 

 

 

The only reasons I'm sticking around, really, are that I have nothing else to do and I'm hoping the $5/month charge will transfer over to MechScape with my account (once MechScape comes out, I'm going to try it, switch over completely if I like it or, if I don't like it, retire from both games and just hang out in Off-Topic and Forum Games if I feel like staying on here at TIF).
