Faith is good, and I am not going to go after you for any legitimate faith; my attacks on religion happen when we get some bad things being justified by religion. The problem is not with America becoming godless, its in the general cultural decline and the fact people are acting more foolishly. You dont need god to be a good person, you just need a good philosophical backing. If your right, so be it, Ill take my chances; we could go into some logical flaws with various religious texts but that is entirely a different argument.

Actually, separation of church and state is supposed to be a principle of the United States, due to it being founded on religious equality and freedom. You can't have that if the Christian religion goes hand in hand with government, now can you?

 

 

 

Now I haven't read up on this in more than a while, but if I remember correctly; The US was founded on no state funded church, because they didn't want the government to fund a church like UK funded the Church of England. Along down the road, after then US was founded, someone decided the throw in separation of church and state. So technically , under the constitution wouldn't one be able to base their political decisions off their preferable religion, weather it be Christianity or Buddhism as long as their decision was not to give money or government hand-outs to the religion?

 

 

 

I'm down with people being homosexual and what not, but I think there are certain rights (like tax benefits and the shift of veteran's pay to the spouse) that a married man and woman have that should be for a married man and woman, not 2 married men or 2 married women.

Isn't that like saying, "Oh, we'll make black men and women free, but they shouldn't be allowed to vote," or "We will make them free, we'll just tax them 33% more." I'm sure many people here believe that all races and religions should be treated equally, why is this any different? If history has taught you anything, shouldn't it be that prejudice comes in many forms? Yet time and time again, we uphold our previous morals (such as racial equality) but turn around and discriminate when it's in our backyard (in this case, gay marriage). My point being, what makes this any different from racial separation? They have different premises with the same outcome: oppression.

Well, for one we can think for ourselves and can communicate on a level where we can activly contribute to each other's ideas. We can furnish tools to do feats that would be impossible without (though there are some animals that can do this). I fail to see how ratifying a line in the Pledge of Allegiance is disregarding any religion. I have never, after developing my own ideals, recited the pledge. I simply stand up, showing my allegiance to my country. I should not have to stand under a god I do not take faith in to show my sense of nationalism.

But the phrase about being one nation under god wasn't originally in the pledge of allegiance. As for the constitution being written to follow god, that's why the first amendment gives us the freedom to believe in a god or not, right? I'm not even going to debate WWIII.

Why should they need to excuse themselves when it should be you excusing yourself to them?

I'm going to skip over the debate about if homosexuality is wrong according to the Bible, since there definitely are points on each side. But look, if you believe homosexuality is wrong.. then don't do it yourself. Why push your views based on supernatural things that happened over two thousand years ago (sorry, it just came out) onto others who maybe don't believe in them? Or maybe even do, and believe the Bible gives them permission to love who they want.

It actually makes me feel a bit sick when I see people posting stuff like this. I'm straight myself but I'm very close friends with a large number of homosexuals, both male and female, as well as having gay family members. All but one of them say they have never had feelings towards the opposite sex, that they were born that way. So they can't go "back" to being "normal" as they weren't straight in the first place. They didn't "change" that way, they've always been like it without being able to help it. I also resent your usage of the word "normal" there. Who are you to say what's normal? Homosexuality is more "normal" than religion in my opinion, I'll show you what I mean.

 

 

 

Let me turn this around - I think religion is terrifying, it scares me how so many people like you have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by a book. You definitely weren't born that way; had you never heard of the Bible you might still believe in there being a sort of higher being or whatever but you wouldn't believe all these stories about a man getting two of each species on a boat and getting it to float for forty days (seriously, it's phenomenal how many species there are, consider the amount of insects and then the fact that there's more than just one species of pig, monkey, horse etc, plus he'd have to get fungi, bacteria and plants on board too seeing as they're living organisms, most of which would die underwater - it's obviously an impossible task), and women being made out of ribs (LOL).
