Oh yeah I am definitely big on grammar and punctuation. I used to always correct peoples grammar on World of Warcraft. :)

I also have that view of that someone who can't spell or organize their sentances for peanuts is usually someone of lesser intelligence. No offense to anyone who can't spell or anything, it's just the way I percieve things (as others have said on the thread) and well 9 times out of 10 my judgement is correct.

 perhaps we should be going to the "111 if math and science stinks" thread and tell everyone they have lower intellegence just cause they cant do math and science very well...

Give people a break, some are better at some things then others.

BTW, as much as some people find it better to correct grammer, it is extreamly annoying. Leave it to the teachers to correct.

It was always fun to check my first posts on the old Scapeboard, and laugh at the way I wrote things, for example I used to write like "I no u dont like fihs". But hey, English is my second language, there's my excuse. :D

On the other hand, this forum is the only place where I use -well atleast try to use- good grammar, because on World of Warcraft, there's just... too much talking going on and a quick responce is most of the time the best responce no matter how bad its written. And the same goes for IRC, for me atleast. :)

There's a difference though. People who type things like "u" and "wad" actually know they are doing it and they actually know how to spell the words correctly, but they just can't be bothered to take the extra millisecond to type it out.

And don't even get me started on people who use the roll eyes smily...

Apart from the odd stupid post, I always try to talk decently. Try not to forget to type like I should. Basically, try to do what a fair bit of the native english speakers tend to neglect.

It's a shame: Despite the fact they want that they think english will get them anywhere in the world and be understood, they neglect their own language.

I don't want to sound arrogant, but I can say I'm fluent in 3 languages, and get along quite well in a fourth. Some americans only know english, and not even that could be called 'decent'.

*Sigh* It's an attittude thing, I guess?

You know what they say, people who learn english as a second/third language tend to speak it better than native speakers

true that..i don't even know when to use "whom" or "who"...little junk like that

I am a great writer and enter writing contests and stuff...but the officially proper English that is unused in everyday life goes away...and it's never taught again really

if you are referring to online...im never proper or even close to it...but i can get close when need be

Wouldn't it be " peoples' ". I thought the apostrophe went after the word if it was a collective.

Teachers are often wrong. It's also incredibly annoying for some people when they see bad grammar. A pet hate of sorts.

No, it shouldn't, actually. "Peoples" is not a word. People is the collective.

If I make any major errors in any of my posts I always try and fix them if i can by correcting the spelling and grammar. However when you make a post on these forums the browser returns to the topics list and not the thread you just posted so it may be quite a while before I notice that I have done something incorrect.

Wrong. "People's" is correct; with an apostrophe. Without, it is incorrect.

I know that stuff, but the stuff about misspelling. Like i cant help it, im just not good at spelling.

Also i think many people spell stuff "u" and "wud" just cause they are lazy.

I do sometimes. Like I did in this message and the post before it :P

Most of the time however, I only do it when i've used BBCode in my posts.

I was referring to being grammatically correct.

I already confessed that you were grammatically correct; I simply made the claim that, contrary to what you said, 'peoples' is a word.

Hah. Just start typing everything correctly, periods and everything. It works (thought you might get a few "it's the internet, you dont need to type like that"). I looked at my posts one day (on the old scapeboard), I thought to myself... EW. I typed like such an idiot.
