Will I live past my teens?

I know this is long, but bear with me. I know many of you don't like to read or can't read that well, but please read through this.

As many of you know, I am crippled. The reason for this is a mascular degenerate disease (it kills muscles in other words) called Muscular Dystrophy (MD). There is no known cure (or even treatment for that matter) for this disease and it ALWAYS ends up killing the person. Not only am I blessed with this disease, but I also have the rarest type. Last record of my type of MD was reported 20 years ago. My type is the most common type but with a mutation, the most common type kills their victim so quickly that many don't even make it past their teens, and absolutely none survive past age 21.

Researchers, however, are getting one step closer to finding a cure, but the funding for experiments are always running low. So a guy named Jerry Louis runs a telethon every year to raise money for the research on MD.

Now for the favor: If you all could find it in your hearts to donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation (MDA), it would have a great deed to everyone in the world, most especially me. I know that I'm not easy to get a long with, and I know I have pissed many people off, but this donation extends past me to children who aren't even born yet and children who are lieing on their death beds as we speak.

For more information about my disease, go to http://www.mdausa.org .

Call 1-800-FIGHT-MD to donate, have a heart and save the world from the deadliest genetic disorder known to man.

If you wish to see the Telethon, turn to many of your Chicago channels and CBS.

Last year, Clan Jaguar alone donated $7,300 to help the cause.

Keep living man, just keep living. Donating will no doubt help the entire cause. As for you, the individual, I can only send you my wishes and encouragement.

From the little I've seen from the post, I see you're not pessimistic. You're fighting for the cause, you're not dwelling on your cruel fate. I, for one, admire that entirely. Keep living the moments you have left in this manner and your life will be rich in joy and memories; something which many people do not discover.

You'll make it past those teens, I believe you can. Never stop believing you can too. The moments you experience will create memories that will echo through eternity and bless those fortunate enough to have shared them with you. That's life's single greatest gift and with your courage you have a wonderful chance to make it so.

I'm not here to tell you what God A will do or what saviour B will not. I believe by living your life to the full you can make many others seem more complete.

I'll be donating and all the best to you.

as long as you continue wanting to live, your body will try its best to keep you that way. as soon as you give up, your body might give up. that sucks thinking about dying at such a young age, my doctor thought i had cf or something, told me that about 5 years ago, and said people with it hardly live past thirty. waiting for the tests to get back was horrible, but turns out i didnt have it. so i kinda know what it is like, but not quite as bad. just keep on fighting...

I think he was being sarcastic on that part...

They say 'everything happens for a reason', but for that reason we don't really know or would like to accept it. Some people call it a pattern of life, others would say it's what God put you on earth to do or live with and share it with others to make them support the fact. Don't mean to be all religious so I'm not even going to continue on about that....I've got my own problems I must overcome mentally and physically. I wish you a good long and happy life man, and I'll pray the foundation finds a cure or treatment.

I truly am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with the disease, but if you believe you can live past your teens, you will. It's obvious that you are, but fight it with absolutely everything you've got, never give up, and always believe in your heart that the cure will be found, and that you'll be the first patient of it. I cannot express my respect for someone in your situation enough, faced with death, at such a young age. Good luck, with everything, and fight like hell.

I cannot donate money (I don't have a job at the moment), but I am going to college for a biotech major; maybe I can help out on finding a solution?

I hope you the best of health. :)

Anyway, I don't have much money at the moment since I got fired because I was too old for my work. I'll see if I can fix up some things with my mother and father.

And in the meanwhile, I wish you the best of luck and keep fighting!

Btw, didn't you post this earlier on these fora? I'm almost 100 % sure I saw this before.

Well that's probably why he mentioned how Clan Jag donated $700+ last year.

Yea, I wasn't accusing him for posting fake things or something, lol. It just sounded familliar.

Yeah, I posted it a year ago, and I copied everything almost exactly from a year ago since only one thing's changed - they've found an experimental treatment to this very common and very deadly disease. Even last year I didn't understand my disease as well as I do today, but I'll try to explain what happens.

You know how when you excercise (sp?), your muscles feel tired? That's because acids build up on your muscles that you're using and begin to eat away at them. However, you counter-act these acids, your body produces a chemical called Dystrophyn to use up the acid once you relax. However, people that suffer from MD do not produce this counter-actant and the acids eat away at the muscles and turn them into fat until there's nothing left, eventually spreading to the heart causing your cardiac muscles to turn to fat until you either die of heart attack or suphocation from your lung muscles collapsing.

The experimental treatment injects the chromosome that produces the chemical dystrophyn into a type of the flu virus. The flu virus is then put into the blood stream via one of the major veins in your body. The flu virus attaches to a cell, injects it's DNA (which would be the one single chromosome) into the cell. The cell later multiplies, spreading copies of this chromosome throughout the body. Within a few months the body will be almost cured of the disease entirely.

The problem, however, is the government wouldn't allow this to happen after the last treatment. The last experimental treatment was injecting artificial dystrophyn into the body. Scientists tested this treatment on the rats, and after several dosages of the chemical, the 6/10 of the rats were treated from the disease (but not cured). Thinking that the other 4 rats might just have a genetic problem with them, they showed their research to the government and the government allowed the MDA to test on humans. This caused liver cancer in all 10 of the patients it was tested on, and none of them survived. After this, the government haulted funding for the program, so the MDA had to rely almost entirely on donations from people like y'all.

After researches showed that this treatment dealing with chromosomes and gene splicing cured all 10 rats, the government is now letting the MDA get a third chance (the first treatment didn't do squat, I don't remember what they did but I think it was something like removing "bad" cells) at testing on humans. This testing period will begin in 2006.

*NOTE* If anyone could post this message on the RS community topic that I also posted on there, that would be great because there's a kid on there trying to tell people that the hurricane relief fund is more worthy of receiving money than this

Thats because the telethon goes on every year, labor day weekend, if I recall correctly.

I called in my donation last weekend, as did countless other people. My state alone (arizona) raised over 2 million dollars, which isnt bad, considering they are expecting lower donation totals due to the hurricane relief donations.

Keep fighting, hope to see you posting this again next year :P

I'd post in your support, but I am yet to have posted 50 times on rsc, since Im rarely on there. Sorry
