Dracula_Magic
Could it have something to do with the Serbian currency?? Um no. The reasoning clearly says that due to financial sanctions on the current regime, Jagex cannot offer member services to him anymore. Serbia was sanctioned before, but definitely not right now. Legally, Jagex CAN provide this user members. It's a MISTAKE for sure. Well seeing as the last time I can find that Serbia was sanctioned was 1992, and dracula has been a member for 7 years and has not received this message before, there must be some reasoning for the messages recent creation in the first place, right? It's not like these things just appear out of thin air. The financial sanctions they speak of likely have to do either with their national currency, trade deficit, or outstanding debt. Also it could be some trade embargo that the UK put into place with Serbia.. I'd like to think that this is a mistake, but it seems to be an odd case and i would assume all Serbs are being denied membership... not just this individual.. why would they deny membership (revenue $$) to anyone without a good reason? They'd probably be pretty reluctant to edit their code to do this and I can't imagine them "accidentally" doing it.. I can't imagine them accidentally doing it nether But I will see... zzZZ [- Glory From Beyond -]ZZzz
Dracula_Magic
It is not a mistake,I just recieved an email from Jagex as a responce for email I sent to them: My email (sent on 12th july): " I have recieved an email telling me that there are financial sanctions affecting my country, and that I am no longer able to subscribe for a membership I have been member for 6 years, and I live and play in Serbia.I would like to know if this was a mistake, and I would like to see more details on this, and the reason why such action has been taken? " Responce (received on 13th July, day later) " Thank you for contacting Jagex Billing Support. I am afraid that we are duty bound to adhere these sanctions in a number of countries worldwide. This is the stance that we are now taking and will remain doing so for the foreseeable future. Knotch_Blade
Maybe they know something we don't... It's highly possible that these sanctions have been put in place, before the public's knowing... My step-dad set up for the war in Iraq four or five months before the "conflict" began. Good luck, try selecting a different account/getting a trusted friend from overseas to buy membership. You could set-up a PayPal with your country as the UK or the US, add money, and if that doesn't work, find a trusted friend and send them money for one of those membership giftcards, and have the e-mail you the code. That really sucks though mate. #-o My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination

Deltaer
That is such bs. Ask them what sanctions are in place against Serbia? And you might want to take a look at the UN website to see if you can find something.. that's so ridiculous. I doubt that mod even understands what he's talking about... That's why he didn't answer "why".. Write another query to them again, and this time emphasize the WHY part. But I think there is a way to mask your IP using mirrors or something, so they don't see your IP is from Serbia.. but I have no idea how to do it. Edit: Okay I've done some research and there are NO sanctions in place against Serbia.. the closest I could find was back in 2000. Trust me people; sanctions are not something taken lightly. It's a pretty serious thing for relations to sanction another country.. they are pretty much a last resort when it comes to diplomacy.. if Serbia was sanctioned again, we would know about it. Send them another query and tell them that they've made a mistake, and that there are no sanctions against Serbia. I am not english what is the difference between family and direct family? uncles and cousins etc. aren't direct family? Yeah, that's actually a pretty funny thing I've noticed. I guess Jagex doesn't realize that for different cultures, direct/immediate families mean different things. Families in Canada, the US, and most of Europe tend to be smaller than other places.. Direct families in the "Western" sense = your mother, father, and siblings. Your cousins and uncles are not part of that kinship. But yeah I could see that confusing lots of people. Sheep Tails
That's odd. I mean REALLY odd. There are NO sanctions (that any of us know of), the mod from Jagex doesn't answer the "why" question, and no proof of anything being wrong and so on... and there's the fact that Jagex is cutting itself some revenue, albeit a little for now. Why don't you try finding someone else from Serbia who pays for Runescape. Not sure how you would go about doing that, but maybe it'd shed some light on the matter. wordsofthelord
It might be hard but I think that this ^^ is your best bet. Maybe that way you can find out what is going on. It seems weird that Jagex would get advance notice of any possible sanctions. I also dug a little into this matter and the last sanctions against your country were as you said, almost 10 years ago. The mod didn't answer "why" because he had no idea.. he just assumed there were sanctions against Serbia.. if you tell them there are NO sanctions against your country, they will look into it. It must be a bug. Like I said, sanctions are a serious matter, and we would know if there were sanctions against Serbia, like there are on Iran and North Korea right now.. Big Bad Serbia (that's why my social studies teacher used to call it in high school  ) has been behaving well in the last decade, so there is no way it is being sanctioned right now! Good luck! It sounds as if Jagex, on its own, is taking a stance against certain countries. I wonder if they have decided to implement a company policy of some sort. Though why against Serbia is quite the question. It's really pretty fascinating, unless it's a mistake which it very well could still be, and I don't blame you at all for washing your hands of the whole matter. But please pursue it ;)
Maulmachine
Hey there, I don't think that Jagex made a mistake. I decided to do a slight bit of research and found out that there was an updated document in regards to sanctions of the EU. I read it and I didn't really see any exclusive mention of Serbia, but I did see mention of a website that had a complete list of the countries being sanctioned against. http://ec.europa.eu/external_relations/cfsp/sanctions/measures.htm Now, that list mentions Serbia as being sanctioned against. When you go to see the reason it says to see the Yugoslavian reason for that sanction. If you go to see what reasons there are the only ones listed are for people who have committed crimes. So, I can't find any notices that anything has changed recently. Out of curiosity, what date did you receive this message?
