Username changes

This has been a long time in the making, I've seen JMods post about it on the RSOF as far back as 2005 so I'm sceptical about it being anywhere near ready to be implemented..

If it is I will most definitely be changing my name, I just need a good name idea. :-k

Can't wait for it, hopefully there is a name swap feature so I can get my original name but if there isn't then that's fine too.

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

another note is that if there is a nickname feature it will greatly reduce account theft/hacking.

The way they could do the friends thing is such as irc does it. you log in and you get a message "Great_one330 is know known as Barsad_Cly." and maybe so it is easier to keep the names straight you could right click the name in the friends list(not public) and click the option "view username" and the person will only be able to see it if the other guy has the option turned on public/friends/off such as the other things.

What names do you think people would see in public (as in just mousing over/right-clicking someone)?

the nickname, unless of course the username feature is set to public, in which case they will see that.

I hope you can set a nickname, even if its set somewhere else in the world or anywhere, but if you're in pvp or whatever then nicknames are disabled.

Log in name is a big concern which will prevent hacking like many say so thats a smart move, and this new anti hijack device virtually unhackable!

I wouldn't mind having 'laura007.'

They confirmed name changes to one of my test Twitter accounts quite a while back; http://twitter.com/OfficialJagex/status/1845655162

We have a project this launching summer that to allow all players more freedom with their names, including them being changeable

The wording makes it seem there is more than just username changes coming soon...possibly clan tags?

The day I can change my Runescape name to that of my Xboxlive gamertag will most likely be the day that I bother playing this game again. I suspect that the option to do so will be released at the same time as Mechscape, for obvious reasons.

I don't think I'd change it, unless I could get legolas or lego. No matter how bad my name is, it's been what I've been used to for almost 5 years.

Yes, but the thing is, what if 85% of the players set their nicknames to Zezima? Then you'd be walking around the GE surrounded by all these Zezimas... :?

I like my name, thanks. :D Sheep Tails was, quite oddly, not taken about 3 years ago. I got the idea from their example of "red_rooster". Anyway, the nicknames will be useful. And I'm interested in Mechquest as well

Oh right, by the way, I'm a girl. No more calling me a guy you lot~
