I made them up. This has no discussion value as no one not working at Jagex could have the exact numbers.

Another "debate" And i use this in the loosest sense of the word about how many rares there are...

im just saying your guesses are way off. and really unreasonable. if there was such a great amount in difference between blue and white phats then blue phats would be like 1bil and white phats 12m or something like that. then u just completely messed up the order of the prices. white phats are pretty expensive so why would there be so many? and btw. i still dont like you, if you remember our arguments over "x-bury" option.

Yes they could. Somewhere jagex stores information about a player's inventory, probably a login server (or multiple servers). In any event, if they have the data, they can scan it and find out.

obviously there's no way to know exactly how many, but maybe you could guess from like how many are traded on the Runescape forums, and how the GE is affected when they're bought or something.

Obviously Jagex could find out with a simple query against player banks. But that does the rest of us little good.

 

 

 

With the end of RWT, and seeing as these items are so thinly traded, a physical census might actually work. Someone takes on the project, meets owners online and sees the phat in trade. The volunteer could keep count of how many there are and post the count & owner on a blog.

 

 

 

It might not be 100% accurate, but it would give a good reasonable ballpark number of how many are owned by active players.

 

 

 

I might even be willing to take the project if it seems feasible.

Nobody can give an accurate estimate outside of Jagex themselves, as banks are private, so anybody can have them, and nobody can see them unless people wear them.
