It's that volatility that makes it really easy to merchant though - it's capitalizing on the stupidity of the average player and simply going against the flow. A merchant is someone who buys when everyone else is selling (or, in this case, dumping,) and sells it when everyone else is buying. All it is is good timing. For example, right now, karil's skirts are falling now due to a bunch of idiots who got sucked in by a merch clan. When the price starts to stabilise again, buy the skirts for max to create a price increase and hence false demand, or wait for the merch clans to pick up the item again. Then sell it to the same idiots who are doing what the merch clan's say. Why should only the leaders of these pyramid scheme's make money? In effect, merchanting is diverting money away from these people...But i don't personally merch, it's too much effort, and I don't find money overly important (not when there's gwd around lol.) I just buy durables such as my set of full bandos and wait for the natural price increase due to inflation, and act on the whim's of the price cycle.

 

Nice bank btw - a 60m bank just doesn't cut it these days, even if you got the majority of it from bandos in the last week :wink:

He's 99 Attack, Strength, Defense, Hitpoints and Slayer, so I'd say he's made a fair amount of that through slayer and monster hunting, as well as merchanting so stfu....

Not gonna moan at you for merching, but im still not too keen with it. Although solo is ALOT better than clans, they seriously piss me off. :evil:

Personally i prefer making cash off skills, such as slayer, farming, runecrafting etc, however i must try merching.. someday :)

"Merching" is not fine. As much as people try to justify it, merchants take from the economy without giving back. Before the Grand Exchange, merchants performed an invaluable service in exchange for their earnings. This is no longer the case - the Grand Exchange has essentially taken over what merchant's used to do.

 

Think about it - what does a merchant REALLY contribute to the game? Even an avid PKer contributes to the economy - he provides an outlet for goods, allowing them to stabilize in price, while providing the service of being a challenge to others of like-mind. What does a merchant do, besides creating false demand and supply strategically? By buying even a single measly item for the sake of re-selling for profit, you are creating false demand. And, in turn, when you sell it later, you are creating false supply.

99 Slayer brings in anywhere above 250m so that's atleast 1/4 of his wealth just from Slaying.

Thanks. I do mostly solo merchanting, but I also run a small Cornering Clan (much different from Buyout Clans - other merchanters are the only people who lose money and it's because of their own stupidity lol).
