FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa thread.

Featured Replies

Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France

Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, Korea Republic, Greece

Group C: England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia

Group D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana,

Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon

Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia

Group G: Brazil, Korea DPR, Côte d'Ivoire, Portugal

Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile

New Zealand (country I'm from, so happy they made thw world cup :twss:) have a good pool I guess. We almost beat Italy =]

Pool G looks very interesting, with Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal together.

Looks like England are okay.

Australia arn't looking too good, with Ghana and Germany.

Can't wait for the world cup to start now =P

Yeah you see New Zealand there with all the other teams, and we look quite out of our depth... Though it's good for the game here, and a good chance to promote ourselves on the world stage. I hope we put up a respectable performaance, but I can't see us winning any games. Maybe we can go for the draw against Slovakia...

The England vs US match will be fun, I can already see pages of fun here.

With the exception of Group A and G it's looking good for all the seeded teams to make it through their group as champions. I reckon New Zealand stand a reasonable chance of getting through the group stages and I'd like to see them progress. Depending how results go we could well have Brazil vs Spain in the last 16 which would mean one of the favourites to win would go out which could be very interesting.

I was very worried in the beggining when Chile got onto the same group with Spain , but then when Honduras and Switzserland also joined it , i feeled happy , specially when portugal joined the G group and not the H group ahahaha

I almost poo`ed myself when I thought the possibility of a Spain-Chile-Portugal-Honduras group =S :ohnoes:

England vs USA will be a tough one for the Scottish public, neither nation are good winners so it's basically a contest of who will annoy us least if they win. I'll go with USA just on the basis that they are further away. Why is it that England always get easy groups in the first round anyway? They seem to have amazing luck in the group draws for tournaments...if only they had that kind luck in penalty shootouts  .

I think Spain will win this one, any squad that can keep Fabregas as a bench warmer is amazing. That being said, you can't count out Argentina (despite their poor qualifying form) or Brazil. I would absolutely love an African nation to win it though, I would have had Ivory Coast as an outside bet but they got the group of death.

Australia has nothing to worry about. Their own citizens don't even want them to win, especially if it means we get to host a future world cup.

I Highly doubt Argentina wll win this cup , seriously their DT (Maradona) is THE WORST DT of the cup. With stars like Messi , Verón , Tevez , etc its the DT fault for not making a good team work with such good players

Also the Argentina league is a very good reflection of the bad moment the team is living , with their biggest teams (Boca and River plate) in the middle table , and other smaller teams in the top of the league.

All that being said , Argentina got one of the luckiest roads to the final since their group is fairly beateable and if they manage to win 1st they `d confront the 2nd of the A group

Yeah if any African team are going to win it's gonna be Ivory Coast. Drogba and the two Toure's and more.. Unstoppable :P

As for me, I think it's gonna be Spain. They have an incredible team at the moment.

Looks easy for The Netherlands, hope they'll at least make it to the semi-finals.

Group G stands out from the rest but it should be a good fight for the 2nd spots in most of the groups; this is assuming that the seeded teams do well. Therein lies the chances for upsets.

It looks difficult for the African teams to go through to the next stage. I would still fancy Ivory coast & Ghana, if I had to choose who would make it through for the next stage.

Anybody here going to watch the matches in S.A? :P

Thanks to WithTheQuickness for the sig!

No Canada once again, lmao.

Can't say I have a particular favorite team, I'll probably watch a few games though.

Actually, I'll probably go for Mexico.

Australia probably won't make it to the next stage. But if we do I (like most Australians) will jump on the soccer bandwagon until we get knocked out.

I've always been a Brazil supporter so I'll be cheering for them. Or I'll end up backing whosever is winning

i dont think canada's ever gonna be there unfortunately. just not enough interest here.

you can pretty much tell which ones are getting past for sure in each group. already know spain will do really well

Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France

Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, Korea Republic, Greece

Group C: England, USA, Algeria, Slovenia

Group D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana,

Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon

Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia

Group G: Brazil, Korea DPR, Côte d'Ivoire, Portugal

Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile

Bolded as thru.

A: France is crap under Domenech. But i think they will advance, either them or SA (would be cool) along with Mexico.

C: USA or Slovenia, but i'm guessing USA along with England.

D: Pretty difficult group. I think Serbia will draw the longer straw and follow Germany.

E: I like Japan, their players are very friendly. But i don't think they'll advance. Denmark or Cameroon with Holland, but i'm guessing on my neighbours.

G:I don't think Portugal have what it takes, but i'm not counting them out completely.

H: Switzerland got an interesting team. Spain have the easiest group of all.

It will be interesting to see how the security is next summer. I think that if anything significant will happen, it will be because of some football fan didn't read up on South Africa before going.

Next Euro cup i'm thinking of going to, probably will.

New Zealand and Italy :P

As much as you want to be patriotic, you have to look at the reality.

Wow, I like Englands chances this time around. Gauranteed they end up screwing up as usual along the way though. :wall:

I'd like to see an England - Netherlands final, if that's possible.

I think England may actually have a chance.

A small chance, but a chance nonetheless.

So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth,

These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf,

Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in,

Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,

Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,

Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,

Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got,

And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,

And realise that the other world that you're always looking for,

Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,

And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,

After all, you were put on the earth to do this,

So shine your light so bright that all can see,

Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.

I bet you 1 runescape gp on my guess.

Anways. Since my country failed to qualify i'm hoping for England and Germany to go far.

What's your country?

I hate how lucky france were to be placed in the group with the host nation, they may aswell have been the seed of that group. I'd have liked to see them placed in a group like how Brazil and Portugal are, but possibly with Germany or Italy.
