If a low lvl player asks me how I earn money, I always say:

 

"Just by playing the game"

 

It usually confuses them, they expect a specific method, but for me it holds true. I almost never do something only to earn money, because it usually involves grinding. I play the game to have fun, I already work 50+ in hours IRL ea week, so I don't want to add a couple of hours RS work to it.

 

I already have the basic equipment I need (whip, SS, barrow armour, dragon wc axe, etc, fury), all items which can be bought for only a few mil gp (which every high lvl player can accumulate in only a few hours). Any higher priced items are nice, usually offer better stats, but I don't find it essential to me. I have a dfs from a visage drop, I would not have bought it any time soon, because I don't think the benefits justify grinding for these high priced items. The way I play I don't need them.

 

I also decided I don't need to get a 99 as fast as possible anymore. I have only 2 99s atm (wcing an cooking (to trim)). Because the wc cape is increasingly more common I decided to get thieving (more rare but fast to get) After a while grinding to it, it got boring. So I quit and now I do some pyramid plunder once in a while when I want to, not because I must do it. The same holds true for the other skills, I lvl them gradually just for fun, not to get them fast.

 

I do end up spending my money to lvl skills like construction, summoning and farming if I have some leftover money (almost every penny I accumulate nowadays), most of the times small amounts to get a lvl or a few 100k xp (at higher lvls) and sometimes large amounts if the GE prices is low.

 

I don't do boss hunting because I don't really need the money and I am having enough fun doing other things.

 

In short, I am not interested in best money making methods, I am having fun already without large amounts of cash and I don't like working in the game.

I've made 1.1 billion since last year investing in the Grand Exchange. I do very little skilling, it takes too long and you don't get much profit compared to investing/merchanting. And, to be honest, earning on the Exchange is more fun then something repetitive like flax or levelling.

Generally a mixture of mostly skilling, with a bit of combat included. Actually, I noticed I haven't really even earned any money much, my bank has mostly been sitting at 3m, slowly dropping and rising.

I get some strange satisfaction out of hitting the I don't play runescape button.

Slayer / Skilling. NEVER got a good drop from Boss hunting in my 7 years of playing.

Outsmarting F2P merching clans.

 

190m gp + knowledge of the ge > f2p merch clans.

Slayer formed by foundation for more wealth which helped me raise 99 prayer, summoning and ranged.

GWD 30m or so?

 

and about 100m from holding and eventually selling a purple Phat.

made my first ~50 mil by runecrafting natures back before pure ess

Made another ~200 mil in tree seeds. I convinced ~20-30 friends/clan members to give me all their tree seeds from Kingdom management to me for free for the course of half a year

spent ~ 100 mil of those seeds to get 99 farming

made ~100 mil from kingdom management myself ever since.

Made ~100 mil making ranging mixes(2). they were junk but they sold for max when the PVP update came and merch clans bought out all the ranging potions in the economy

Pocketed 99 herblore while I was at it.

Made ~ 20 mil so far buying battlestaffs from zaffs,

Made ~ 20 mil merchanting spirit shards before the shop update

made ~50 mil buying obby gear, selling for tokkul, and buying onyx gems before the shop update

made ~ 70 mil slaying tormented demons

made ~100 mil by ....

made ~ 80 mil buying up 100 dragon hatchets before the special log update, then selling them 2 days later

made ~ 50 mil merchanting furies

made ~ 100 mil from inflation

Lost ~ 25 mil by being scammed for various reasons back before GE

Lost ~ 200 mil in various merchanting failures general price crashes over the course of my RS career

made ~ 25 mil from slayer

made ~ 50 mil from farming herbs

spent ~ 300 mil training various skills

Made ~ 50 mil hunting grenwalls after the potion update

 

and that roughly puts me to where i am today

 

I'd have one thing that i'd say I earn most of my money from, but things always go in and out of fashion really quickly in the RS economy

I Kill Things That drop stuff. And then i sell the stuff.

I don't see an actual poll. Merchanting and combat.

A combination of Slayer, skilling, and other ways such as collecting snape grass.

Any one a myriad of get-rich-quick schemes which I have devised.

 

They never work out as I had planned.
