(retech a good rule of thumb is to keep your country in one cohesive hard to separate piece and what you need to think about is: If one wanted could a european country easily take over Italy with little resistance from you? [hint the answer is yes] also why would the Itallians join the Japanese as they share almost no culture)

After the brutal destruction of Malaysia by Chinese forces (well not really, but I like exaggerating), Thailand has agree to receive military protection from Japan. This is the extent to Japanese involvement in the area for the time being.

Cause in reality, if a spy project fails, normally you wouldn't go funding more and more, anti spy projects cost LOTS, as you have to search everything and everyone.

Icu a spy project does not cost that much really... We are playing as countries with tens of billions of dollars for budgets for projects just like that. Retech while you could annex it if a European country felt like being a douche they could very easily take it away from you simply by an invasion and blocking the strait of Gibraltar.

Breaking news! Japan has become the largest exporters and second largest importer in the world. This is a result of the merger of many of the Asian tigers, export dependant economies. If you were to try to annex spain... well you would not be able to support a war with your small budget.

News for you Grim, you can't just spend a hell load of money, I know I did but thats cause we needed military equipment, your advisors wouldn't let you fund for anti spy projects if there is no threat.

 

Anti spy projects do cost a lot, you have to search loads of people, that takes time and effort, heck my spies coulda got in at that point

Icu I am not doing a full anti spy project. I am simply heightening security around points of interest and requiring clearance to acess said points. (your spies are not ninjas and they can't get past retinal scans)

I have virtually no anti-spy program what so ever. It's just that every problem that comes from a country, I put a tally mark. Then after a certain point, I put restrictions on that country. It's just all the government stuff that is uber secretive.

Anyways all I'd have to do to gain a country peacefully would be to make sure the winner of the next election/political takeover was one I had control over, just like the US had in several latin-Amercin countries.

The only problem is that... there is no way to guarentee that and well... It would be far more likely a FETA candidate than a Scandinavian supporter.

Easy enough to fix, just make sure you do detailed and thourough background checks when somebody applies for a job which may be exposed to classified information.

That way, you don't need to search everyone, and most of the spies ability to function is cut off.

Anyways I am not... what I am doing is simply doing background checks as ross suggested and setting up retinal scans for the top-secret stuff.

Well, one controlled by me could promise lots of things like cheap power, cheap gasoline, cheap oil, cheap bread,etc. and still be able to keep those promises, after all Scandinavia is rich in resources.

Italy would be fine by me. The main reason I want Spain is to keep a cohesive block really.

Japan must contest those elections as well! Italy looks at its neighbors Germany-France and sees the ridiculously cheap gasoline provided by the Japanese.

Retinal scans are still go as are finger-print scans and back ground checks as well as a five month period of "checking" and an educational program to anyone seeking a governmental job that has anything to do with research.
