Dusty, fair point, but given that Romania has just set up this system, and that Switzerland continues to operate the system...and that the shortest of the contracts last for 10 years(Or so I am told)...It seems that Romania will not instantously pick up the 400 year old customers of Swiss Banks, because of one week...especially given that both nations were involved in it.

Hence competition.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

A further suggestion is to get rid of mandatory minimums for hard drug use, as they are pointless and were brought on by a panic in past decades. This doesn't mean that you legalise all drugs, it just basically means that judges have a choice on how long to sentence people for, instead of being forced to give ludicrously long sentences for small amounts possessed.

Also, Dusty, I'm thinking for deep mining 5 years til it becomes useful, 15 til it's really good, and 30 til it's "perfected". I guess the same for robots.

All/any SATU (south america+Panama) Assets in Swiss banks have been removed and transferred to domestic banks.

My current projects:

Robotics (esp. mining)

Deep Earth Mining

Nanofiber/materials

Advanced nuclear reactors

CAD

New line of guns.

New canal across Panama

Solar fields/solar cities (roofs covered with panels)

Advanced batteries

Hydrogen power cells

New planes, ships, and tanks.

Probably a couple more I've forgotten.

I never said they'd get all of it instantly. A fair chunk will come over to SR banks. Both countries were involved yes, but I wasn't embargoed, and I didn't touch the financial system of my country at all during the conflict.

The SR has concluded a deal with the USA. It is trading 60,267,857 barrels of oil (over 5 years to ensure the American market doesn't get flooded - it can all go at once if you'd like though, Sere) in exchange for 200 tonnes of gold from the USA.

Sounds good. An additional $140m has been granted to the team.

Also, nobody wants the entire military equipment stockpile of Bulgaria? If not I'll just sell them on the private market. Which means to rich westerners, African warlords, and rebel groups.

To Sere:

Can you update the front page and put this as my active country (as well as remove Arch's "Embargoed" hide tags):

Slavic Republic - Dusty

Gold Tonnes: 480.5

US Dollars: 7,735,290,000

Norwegian Krones: 21,000,000,000

Well, how much do you want for all of the military equipment? I imagine I could keep it in reserve or melt it all down if needed.

EDIT: Why do I have 1000$? I'm pretty damn sure that Brazil has more than a thousand bucks.

EDIT2:

All SATU gold mined for the next 5 years will be purchased by Brazil. This will total to around 1400 tonnes of gold.

Also, stats for SATU:

Gold Reserves:542 Tonnes

Population:435m

GDP: 5326B

$1000 for 1400 tonnes of gold? Score!

Haha...Brazil is poor...

And the last batch of military equipment (all of Ukraine's) went for 30b.

On an unrelated note a slough of german executives have set up vacation retreats in the SR. (also sere did the Brittish annex Brittany by force as would seem to be the likeliest way?). So are all nukes disallowed or just the type that we had before? On a completely un-related note Germany starts a 60 day project called project fission.

Eh, I have no idea why it says I have 1000$ on the front page. Considering my GDP is over 2 trillion.

Meh, I'd rather not spent 30b on somewhat antiquated equipment. Sell it to the crazy warlords, that was we can have more enormous conflict to "protect" small countries.

Also, is that Suez Canal dam still being built?

1. Brittany took advantage of a weakness in French power and asked to be admitted into the United Kingdom.

2. All nukes are disallowed. See the Treaty of Geneva, 2009.

They're hardly antiquated. They're from the 90s mostly, a few from the 80s.

And the dam in definitely not being built.

The amount of gold we mine is comparatively small, South Africa has almost more gold than the entire continent, so buy from them. Or china. Or the US. Or Aussie.

And 1400 tonnes would come to about 45 billion over 5 years. Considering it's all bought within a trade union with countries sharing a currency, I think I can handle it.

A total of 161,000 tonnes of gold have been mined in human history, as of 2009.
Since the 1880s, South Africa has been the source for a large proportion of the worlds gold supply, with about 50% of all gold ever produced having come from South Africa. Production in 1970 accounted for 79% of the world supply, producing about 1,000 tonnes. However by 2007 production was just 272 tonnes. This sharp decline was due to the increasing difficulty of extraction, changing economic factors affecting the industry, and tightened safety auditing. In 2007 China (with 276 tonnes) overtook South Africa as the world's largest gold producer

I think you have got your tonnage wrong somewhere (272*5 is only 1,360, and that is not even South America.), can you give me a link?

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Well then, I think someone should intervene with Japan's takeover of South Africa...

Peru=203

Chile=42

Brazil=40

Columbia=15

Venezuela=13

203+42+40+15+13=323 tonnes a year*5= ~~1400 (not really, but I only want 1400 for now). That's not all of South America either, so around 60-70 tonnes annually is unaccounted for there, which will be sold normally.

Also, there's no way South Africa would join Japan. It's very European dominated, and doing pretty well on it's own. (atleast the governing class is, and for takeovers diplomatically, that's what counts)

flobotst.jpg

Hegemony-Spain

Hey, remember that I don't deal in gold? All gold is free for purchase by everyone (even if I embargo them) at market prices, or you could offer another deal if you'd like. All proceeds go to South African development. Besides, is anyone else willing to invest billions of their surplus to helping South Africa?

In other news, the "Japanese" economy has grown a remarkable 20% in the past year, to 9 trillion GDP. This was not true GDP growth however, as the Philippines and Yemen joined the republic. The rest of the growth was mainly as a result of the algae boom, resulting in massive decrease in unemployment in Yemen to 10%. Stock markets rallied and foreign investments poured in as Honda-Toyota was granted total monopoly in Japan, the Slavic Republic, and Germany-France. However, many investors worry that much of the growth was driven by government spending. It is expected that the Japanese economy shall shrink next year, unless real GDP growth increases dramatically to fill the hole left by the government.

Indonesian infrastructure has been taken out of the government budget, to be funded by taxes on algae.

Japan begins several new projects today, one of which is somewhat of a continuation of an old project:

Project Coccoon (Squeaky Clean): 10 Billion <Ongoing

Project Monarch Butterfly: 50 Billion <Ongoing

Government intervention in the Yen: 10 Billion <This year

Project Pupa: 10 Billion <Ongoing

Government infrastructure project in Yemen: 10 Billion

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

Just rolled for if I win the Italian ellction, five D10s, here's the result:

8, 4, 10, 10, 8, 7, 10

I'm not lying, just lucky for a change.

Guess that means Italy's mine.

A pipe is being constructed between the Swiss border and the meditaranian ocean, as soon as Switzerland continues it (or let us do it for them) it will pump salt water, enabling Swtizerland to use salt power.

I don't think you should be the one to do that. No offense to you personally, but I wouldn't trust anybody to roll their own stuff in that situation.

Also, you say you rolled 5, but I see seven numbers. Heh.

Retech, y'know if all your gold is gone then your currency is worth zero, right? At least, that's how I see it with my low understanding of economics, anyway.

Mather, that is something for Sere to decide. Also I am fairly sure me, Dusty, Sere, Grim, Rocco and Ross would vote against Italy becoming suddenly controlled by Scandinavia, so would veto it by majority if necessary.

In any case Switzerland has no reason to accept Salt Water(Seriously, (effectively) limitless power, remember?) If you send any workers into Switzerland then they will probably be killed by the minefields... There are signs all over the place saying 'Warning, Death! Entering Switzerland by Land is Impossible due to Massive Minefields. Please ask Swiss Immigration for a permit and for flights to Switzerland*' In all the languages of Earth.

*There is probably one or two a day, mainly filled with people wanting to access safty deposit boxes. Due to this there is a Gold Member ability, allowing them to call on a Stratos Jet at any time to take them to Switzerland, this is obviously paid for by the charge of the deposit box(Prices have not increased).

Update on the S-Net: having grown to roughly a 90th of the size of the Internet(Its been running for 6 months, compared to the Internet's 40ish years), is beginning to superceed the Internet as the main form of communication. Steven Newton is engaged in a battle with Microsoft...well by engaged I mean Microsoft is throwing money at the Swiss Government to stop S-Net. The Swiss Government is resisting Microsoft.

There has been some limited development of the satalite network, which now provides around 56kb/s Earth-Satalite connections, while Satalite-Earth connections are still 5 minutes, regardless of size. S-Net has overtaken the Iphone, the Sat Nav, Black Berry as the toy of choice and virtually all mobile phone networks are now using the connection to suppliment their connections(Though the majority is still though independant satalites).

A counter-revolution is starting on S-Net to seperate control of the S-Net from Newton's Control. Fortunately this is clearly a Microsoft ploy and so has gained little support from the open-source community, which largely supports Newton's devil may care attitude.

An online forum has provided conclusive proof of the impossiblity of FTL travel, after discussion about the ECM attracted the attention of renowned Romanian Physist Daciana Gettysburg

FTL drive has been concluded as impossible due to the Gettysburg Helix Principle...which states that anything which travels in sub/hyperspace...whatever...must exist on the other side of the divide, also. Thus meaning that any object moving in sub/hyper space would be subject to the same laws of physics, making any attempt at breaking though pointless.

Wormholes are shown to squish everything to the size of a pin-head, and thus would kill humans and their ships.

The Basel Hydrological Plant has been completed. Electricity is now being pumped out in massive quantities.

Construction of the Geneva Hydrological Plant is now under construction. Negotiations with France has been opened on the Rhone, but since the Swiss portion only contributes 500 M^3 out of 2000 odd it will not have a significant effect on the river. The plant is designed to ensure that Switzerland is not plunged into darkness if anything happens in Basel.

A more traditional Solar-Electric plant is being built in Bern and another in Vaduz, in Lictenstien. Both sites will be inactive until use, but will collect the Solar Energy that would be normally used in Basel and Geneva to heat the water, this will provide much less power though.

Ok legallizing drugs is BAD

Say hello to health organizations and deaths, oh and violence, lots of violence. Low efficiency due to weed. Generally, its really damn bad!

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Most drugs generally don't cause people to become violent.

Also, they aren't fully legalized, there just isn't a minimum sentance for them, so no absurd amount of jail time for carrying a tiny amount.

It isn't that bad, really. It's like smoking normal cigarettes, basically. Sure, it kills people, but it's legal, they just have a ton of advertising campaigns against it.
