TUBULAR BELLS!

Doom, you still have a rampant poverty problem in BRazil (taking control over some companies isn't really going to fix it that easily), so just keep that in mind.

I'll do some quick research on some other potential countries, then make my decision hopefully later today.

I hope you're going to do something different to your plan last time, Doom :P

Eh, not as much. Most of the Favelas are nonexistent, new towns are popping up, and with a lot of new industry there is almost no unemployment. The average GDP per capita is probably around 16-17,000 now, which is pretty good.

Russia's (irl) is 11k/person, and china's is 6k/person. They're doing way more than me.

EDIT:

@Dungeon, eh I'm not gonna go after Africa, and nothing above Panama. That way I can focus on making this area into a superpower without having to either not pay enough attention to each state, or having to micromanage way too much.

Well in both cases it just means there's a lot of poor, and a lot of rich. China has more industrial strength due to numbers and all though.

Can I take Italy, please?

'Tis I, 'tis Vindice, 'tis I!

Switzerland's GDP is something like 2,474 Dollars per person, since I went to the Gold Standard.

Though in this case only a few people are rich or poor...and typically the poor are the nambie pambe people who believe in human rights and other crap like that.

The Rich, on the other hand, are bankers...and there arn't many of them...and there are always less of them.

Industrially we are a power house, and morally and spiritually we think we are the most advanced. So actually we are very rich.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Sure I would hope noone has any objections. Franco-Germania is now moving to annex spain following the 5-days rule. They also move to annex morocco as well. All projects continue.

Yeah, but your PPP gdp/capita is as it was in real life.

Well my PPP is actually in decline, since most of my goods are being consumed internally, and my balance of trade makes something like half a million loss per year(now that I am looking after blasted South Africa)

A 50% raise in GDP per capita after only 4 years?

Talks with Slovenia are going well.

Yeah. It's just an initial burst though, after the formation of SATU/O, and it's slowing down already. Brazil's growth rate in real life is already like 6% iirc, so it's not that big of a boost considering how we play the game.

The Federation is engaging with talks with Holland and the Netherlands in order to form the Dutch Republic and giving it protectorate status.

We wish to see the Dutch as an independent people.

Similar offers are being made to Luxembourg and Belgium as well. And the Irish Republic.

We, once again, thank the SR for the money. We'll be putting it mainly towards funding green energy and industrialization in Gabon.

The amount of solar and hydro energy being used will increase gradually, creating a greater surplus of oil. And lol, Equatorial Guinea produces more oil than Japan in real life.

The military is also being whipped into shape. And if no one objects, I'm going to assume that a military alliance with the DRC has been established.

Italy announces talks with Austria, aimed at annexing the state. The benefits of such a merger would of course be mutual, and all current reports from the talks indicate there will be no trouble.

At home, the military is being revamped. Henceforth, the entry requirements will be higher and the training regimes tougher. The current size of the italian army stands at 300,000 troops, this size will hopefully be maintained but is unlikely to be increased.

After the first nuclear power plant was completed last year, the general mindset of the italian people has gone from cautious to positive, and three more plants are scheduled to be completed by 2017.

A new scientific organisation is going to be formed, owned by the government, intended to be the centre of Italian research and enlightenment. It will be called Entanglement, and referred to as EGM. While Italy understands that at first progress will be slow, the government are patient that results will inevitably come quicker and quicker as time passes.

The people of Italy have grown tired of the old way of life, and the rough youth of today yearn for more freedom in their lives. To this end, the government is sponsoring a oceanic scheme where young italians, aged 18-25, can spend 6 months at sea, working for either the military or for EGM. There will also be a scheme for construction of new canals winding through italy, intended to ease transportation of goods both immediately and for the future.

tl;dr

annexing austria, revamping military, building nuclear power plants, setting up science organisation, offering youth schemes to benefit the country

Japan begins moving towards a militarily-isolationist but economically oriented foreign policy. GDP growth continues to do well, led mainly by defence projects and exports. The big 7 Japanese companies have grown a total of 18% in sales recently, with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Honda-Toyota as the leaders in that growth. Japan moves for a 5% flat tariff on goods entering and leaving Italy and bound for Japan, or vice versa. This rate is standard for all nations not in the FETA.

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

That reminds me, are we going to figure out a rough standard to determine the surplus of a country that you can spend on random things? So far I've been using Doom's 1% of GDP system, but I'm not sure if everyone uses it. I'm not trying to over complicate the game, but I think a rough standard should be used. What does everyone else think?

Not budget, but surplus. Like random money that you have to throw around without any harmful effects.

I go by what's reasonable for a country my size. Which means I generally under-spend.

Well of course. It's just that I remember someone was using 5% of their GDP, so I'm just wondering what everyone goes by, or if they just go with reasonableness.
