As the title reads, what do you do to relax. After you've had a long day, when your feeling stressed, when you're tense. Etcetera - what do you do ? I know most of you are going to say either: Books, music, TV or video games, and so to avoid this please specifiy what and why. [if not, thats great]

Well after I've had a long day I usually feel like doing nothing productive.. like sitting around watching movies and browsing the internet. Why? Just because I like doing those things and they don't require work or strenuous thinking/activity, etc. Plus I enjoy both of them. I don't think I ever really get stressed or tense though.

That being said, one thing that really clears my head and refreshes me (maybe different from relaxing) is going for a walk in cold weather, especially if it's late at night. There's just something really refreshing about walking outside in the cold air, and being able to gaze up at the stars is a plus ;) Maybe getting up and walking around isn't what most people consider relaxing.. But it's certainly refreshing and therefore, to me, relaxing :P

How exactly are you meant to specify beyond books, tv, games and music?

Unless you are quite odd and watch only 1 tv show, or read 1 book over and over, or only play 1 game ever or listen 1 to song/album ever. It's hard to specify. If I decide to relax by watching TV it is dictated by what is on TV and could be anything of like 300+ different tv shows. If I read to relax it all depends if I have a book started or what books I've just bought/borrowed in order to read. If I listen to music it depends what play mode I pick or what album and what mood I'm in and what new songs I got. If I go to play games it all depends on my progress through the various games I ownor if I've got a new one and again what mood I'm in.

Also how can people define why?

The why behind what we do to relax is because it relaxs us. It's not an explainable thing, if something makes you relaxed it makes you relaxed end of. And that is why you'd chose to do it in order to relax.

Tripsis has a "model" answer. Why would you read a book rather than listen to music ? [Not why you would choose to "relax"] And what type of book would you read. [Maybe I'm asking too much, either way, just post something.] For me, I just tend to lie down whilst listening to musoc or this is unusual but I take a cold shower. The music is usually just instrumental so my mind is occupied and I can just think alone. I know the cold shower may sound weird, but it really does help me to feel more alert and relaxed at the same time. I dont know why...

I didn't say why you would choose to relax.

I said the way you do choose to relax is chosen because it relaxes you.

We are each different but specific things will relax us, therefore when wanting to relax we choose these specific things that relax us personally. That IS the why to any method of relaxing.

If music relaxes you and TV doesn't - you chose to relax to music because music relaxes you.

If Tv relaxes you, you choose TV to relax because it relaxes you.

Okay, dont want to turn this into whatever... but for example Tripsis likes taking walks, because the cold air is refreshing. Maybe another person enjoys listening to xyz because of abc. I'm just trying to get you to justify the xyz. [You dont have to though.] Someone could be the total opposite and say they like running to relax because thye enjoy the scenery.

I dont know.

I'm not flaming jsut debating.

You could arguable say Tripsis does not relax by walking. He relaxes by being refreshed by cold air. The walking is just an activity that happens to coincide with the thing that relaxs him.

When I really need to relax, I just sprawl out on our comfy couch (as opposed to our uncomfy ones; we have 3) and listen to my iPod (whatever songs come up) and/or play my DS (whatever game was in). The music gets my mind off of things I would rather not think about (such as having to do this week's job) and the DS lets me do something (arguably) productive while I do it. Either that or I go to my room and play PS2/Wii or watch a movie. I guess that's all. TV used to work but most shows these days just bug me (apart from a bunch of kids shows).

My most common one would be to watch television in the afternoon (There has to be sunlight, night time is no good) and lay on the sofa staring at the ceiling when a show ends while waiting for the next to start.

Crack open a beer/bottle of wine while looking through forums while listening to music. Alternatively, replace "music" and "forum browsing" with binging through a good TV series.

jump on the couch with a beer, put on a record or watch sports. Or just go out with some friends for a drink. Sometimes I also go to my bed, put on a cd and stare at the ceiling. Running works as well. I don't really watch a movie to relax, I'm usually pretty concentrated so I don't miss anything. :)

When I want to relax I usually listen to some music to try and change my mood. Sometimes I just lay down on my couch and turn on a basketball game or watch one of my favorite shows if it is on. I don't usually watch movies either since I don't want to miss anything in the movie. Video games help sometimes but I often times get bored so I don't play as many video games any more to relax. Drinking and going out with my friends also is great way to relax on the weekends.

Now that I think of it all my fun activities like gaming, drinking, smoking, and listening to music aren't to help me relax. They are to liven me up. I guess I don't really like being relaxed that much. It feels unproductive to me.

When I want to relax I just sleep.

Browsing these forums usually relaxes me a fair amount, and I like to do it after a stressful day. If i have some fruit handy it also seems to relax me at the same time.

Cold air alone doesn't do it for me :P The cold air itself is refreshing, but the act of walking in cold air is what makes it relaxing for me. And Adrenal is right, I am a female, not a male ;)

Does anybody else do the thing when they just get home, from a fairly stressful or busy day, going into your bedroom, standing right infront of your bed. Then just fall onto the bed and stay where you land for a minute or two, then just get up and carry on with whatever needs to be done.

I turn on Michael Bublé and hop on Facebook. Or I light some scented candles and take a shower until the hot water is gone, then get out and spend a ridiculous amount of time meticulously drying my hair. Or make a blanket nest and curl up with a book.
