Have I played since the so-called 'golden days'?

Featured Replies

I miss the good ol' days. Santas were 3m, eggs were 2. Although there are tons of new things to do, the game seemed more fun to me back then. I am just getting back into it after a 3 year break or so. I hate this trade limit more than anything though...

BTW: My join date doesnt have a thing to say about when i started playing.

I'm from the miniclip generation, so I think the glory days were 2005/2006 when slayer and barrows was in full swing, and pking was a blast. at that time.

I never was scammed or lured, but many many tried. If you were smart it was no problem.

Well I guess i'll post here again in 14 days like usual.

What I feel most people would consider the "golden age" as would be the time frame from when RS2 came out, and the Trade Limit/Wildy updates

So 2003-2007

Golden days are happening right now. To be called a veteran here from the so-called vets of Tip.It, you need to have joined no later than early 2003 (preferably before 2000 and have hacked into Devious MUD when it was still on Andrew Gower's mom computer), have participated in all significating moments in RS (phat duping, all holiday events with the appropriate item to show for, Fally massacre by either having been killed by Durial or be Durial himself, or assisted at Zezima's funeral), have a fond memory of RSC and still pretend classic is a better game than anything out there today and lastly you need to pretend everything was fine when RS was at its peak in terms of active players (no mention of bots, chinese gold farmers, armor triming, trust trading, clan scamming, iron-rune swap trading or RWT).

There you go, if you respect these conditions, you might get that Veteran status symbol...then again... who cares?

RSC was a better game when it comes to pking - which was really the only reason to play rsc, pking in rs2 is a joke

Back on-topic;

2001-2003 were the 'golden days' in my book.

To me the golden days were before RS2 was released and being member was something glorious and i was in awe when i saw my friends member account.

it was awesome

Played since February 2001

I started playing in 2004 and to me the era of the "Golden Days" was in 2005-2006 like some had said. The pre-Grand Exchange era was the best period where one had to hunt through the RSOF for even the simpliest of things and players generally communicated more. Banks were usually crammed to the brim with players offering goods. Everything after that became rather "easy" for the newer players which provided them with jobs, or free armour/ammo.

Kinda hard to put that tag at any specific time in RS; so I will say the golden days were when RS had reached it's max population. I used to remember seeing over 200k people on during the weekends, so whenever that was. I think recently we have been hovering in the 150k? range.

Everyone's perception of what the "Golden Days" were are different. Personally, I think that RuneScape was best off a few years ago, although maybe that's because I enjoyed it most then. I've been playing for quite a while, but I'm not sure when I really started to love it.

2003 for me. Nothing beat being a true newbie who was afraid to cross the Lumbridge bridge and go to the other side where the goblins were (I thought that was the wilderness). As that summer went on, and I obtained full mithril through coin drops - I felt like the [cabbage]. Fast forward a bit and even the quests seemed more fun. The dragon slayer quest was epic. That was all any f2per talked about back then. I mean, who didn't enjoy being 3-hit by Elvrag a few times? Once RSC became a bit routine, RS2 was released and it was the golden days all over again for about a month.

Contrary to what many see here... I feel 2006-2007 was when the game was at its lowest by far. I just could not play the game anymore after late 2005. Some of you just have no idea how bad botting and real world trade became. It was extremely noticeable, and completely destroyed the game.

In general, RS has gone from "I want a high combat level", to "I want money and skills", which kind of sucks because I really preferred it when it was the former. But you can't even compare combat in RSC/RS2. Two completely different levels of game play. I can understand why that has happened because combat was a difficult, long, and rewarding process in RSC. That's not at all the case in RS2 in my opinion.

Funny how the subjective experience makes all say different things.

RSC = Golden days..

I started in may 2006, so for me, 2006-2007 were the golden days. Getting level 40 in attack... earning my first 10k gp... becoming a member for the first time... Yep. Those were my days. But see, all anyone can say is 'my golden days'. Unless Jagex holds a 'golden days' event, it will be different for everyone.

I really can't see why it matters, but if you can remember pre-trade limit that's something to brag about I suppose...

There's no such thing as a golden era. I restarted back in spring '02 and definately have fond memories of RSC. But when I took the window to play RSC again I immediately jumped right back out. What was great to me then was playing a new game, exploring a new world, and reaching for new accomplishments. But that game was terrible beyond compare. Every feature the old farts complain about for making things too easy really just removed a lot of the mundane and now players can enjoy runescape without getting carpal tunnel.

Back then:

You swing your axe at the tree...

You swing your axe at the tree...

You slip and fail to hit the tree\

You swing your axe at the tree...

You get some wood.

Versus now:

You swing your hatchet at the tree.

(chopping animation)

You get some logs.

Being a veteran isn't about what kind of game you used to play. It means understanding the game you play today.

It's been so long now. Did it actually say that?

Thanks guys, looks like the nostalgia comes over me as usual. Everyone has their own oppinions, so the real Golden era is our newb days.
