Bigotry

There was a real study published in some psychology journal that atheists were more intelligent than religious people. They reason that atheists were more open minded and more likely to accept cultural changes or some [cabbage] like that and that, in conclusion, atheists were "more evolved". I felt like facepalming sooooooooo hard, especially since this [cabbage] is peer reviewed. Like, wow.

So you are saying people who believe in an omnipotent creature that shows no sign of existing at all but makes you go to church to hear about what certain people did 2000 years ago, tells you to kill gay people, not have sex if you decide to dedicate your life to "it", consider abortion murder and believe that Jezus can come down from heaven any second to allow all the good Christians to go to heaven (the main criterium of being a good person is going to a building to contribute absolutely nothing to society for one morning every week) are less intelligent? The same people who don't allow other people an opinion on things like other religions that preach excactly the same thing or how species evolved and kill them for it? That article must be pure nonsense. I came up with that years ago.

^ Catholicism

You sir are quite ignorant.

First of all, I am a Maronite Catholic and we do not believe in the Rapture, or the event described were Jesus comes down and takes the good and leaves the bad to suffer. The book of Revelation is consider to have already happened in the sense that it was all metaphoric and all the beasts and what not represented different people and empires. You're statement is one of bigotry.

I particularly like my religion, Marouni, because our second patriarch, Maroun, went around and helped cure people because he was a monk and a doctor. He helped cure even pagans, and he did not discriminate between Christians and non-Christians. As for knowledge, our cultural practices foster intellectuals, as proof Carlos Slim, Ralph Nader, General John Abizaid, Danny Thomas, Khalil Gibran, and Charles Elachi. Our religious beliefs say that religion and science answer two different questions, therefore they both must be pursued wholeheartedly as long as it isn't hurting anyone else. The acquisition of knowledge, intellect and wisdom is a means of becoming closer to God, as God = Love (religious aspect) + Omnipotence (infinite knowledge).

Plus you said going to mass once a week contributes to being good? False, as I like to say a lot from Khalil Gibran "Your life is your religion and your temple, when you enter into it take with you your all". That means the accumulations of actions in life truly attests to your religious beliefs. And for atheist, if an atheist is kind for the most part, commits themselves to charity, leads a moral life, then they in a sense "know" God even though they may not believe in Him and they are fully eligible for heaven. Hell is only for people who will infinitely reject the way of God, that is why one cannot even say Judeas or Adolf Hitler is in Hell.

Other all bigotry is extremely annoying. The fear to do something to not be a bigot is just as annoying. I didn't like how if you were white and did not support Obama you were racist, but the same was not said about black people who did not support McCain. I find the selection of Sonya Sotomayor as a Supreme Justice a selection based on racial appeal which annoyed me. And lastly I find affirmative action based on race and not income pretty bigoted against people who actually prove themselves but are superseded by tokens for the mere fact the workplace/school needs a token.

I'm really just better than other people because it's who I am.

I don't hold it against anyone, though. Not their fault or mine.

Do you realize that all you ever do is make stupid sophmoric jokes that no one laughs at? Seriously, whenever people are having a serious discussion you always seem to chime in with a terrible joke about how cool you think you are.

It's been going on for a while. Please, stop. Or actually make your posts funny I guess.

Did you see that CNN article about how "liberals are smarter than conservatives"? Correlation does not equal causation.

So, basically Earthysun is Jesus's only son.

C'mon, Hex. You can troll better than that. I've seen you do better.

Yeah. Plus, that sort of fit in with the topic. Frankly, I'm a tad bit dissapointed.

THANK YOU! I've been saying that forever, no one listens to me :( I guess they figure my ideas are so far out there that I'm trolling. :|

People that do not believe in any god or supernatural power are almost exclusively open-minded: after all, science hardly provides any evidence about anyone being any "better" than anyone else, so It's hard to have a racial bias.

Survival of the fittest?

I believe I heard somewhere some races are more likely to get certain diseases, etc.

And trust me, the most close minded people I've ever seen have been some Christians, AND ATHEISTS. You can't say atheists have to be open minded anymore than Christians, maybe they were raised Atheist, and just remained Atheist throughout their life? Honestly....

While this doesn't necessarily mean one race is better, there were multiple other links stating that some races are more susceptible to certain diseases.

That article was one of the worst I've ever read.

African-Americans and Hispanics along with several other "minorities", almost universaly are disadvantaged in our newly globalized world, and as such, has a lower income when compared to other races. Lower income is directly correlated with poor diet (see: http://www.ers.usda.gov/AmberWaves/September05/Findings/DietQuality.htm) which will obviously have a detrimental effect on health, especially when multiplied by poor dental care and lack of access to health resources.

If there is a correlation between race and health, it is entirely impossible to prove, and would be a pointless endeavor.

Believe whatever you want to believe, LOL.

So you actually believe that white people are less likely to get sick than black people?

Nope. However theres proof that certain races are more susceptible to certain diseases than other races. Examples:

White people: Osteoperosis\Huntington's

Black people: heart disease, sickle cell anemia

Jewish people: Tay sachs

Just those off the top of my head.

What can I say? It's absurd that anyone could think they could even measure these things properly.

Food, environment, economical position, and even work-place, are all factors that could make certain diseases more likely to occur, so even if statistically, more people of a certain race have cancer for instance, it could possibly just be that a large portion of that race is more exposed to the sun or something like that.

It may be. Or, you could *gasp* be wrong, and race does have a factor. I think it's absurd that everyone in this damn forum is so politically correct they're afraid to be labeled racist, or whatever the new hate term is, bigot etc. Simply for suggesting some races have less defenses against certain diseases than others. I've post at least 3 links, and no one has commented on them. Surely you've never heard on the commercials on TV about race affecting who gets what disease? I have.

The fact that different races have different diseases and disease resistances actually makes perfect sense as far as evolution goes. Bodies are going to adapt to the diseases that are an immediate threat, and that depends entirely on what diseases are prevalent in their region. Those from outside that area, and away from exposure to those diseases, are going to be more susceptible because their immune systems have no way to combat it... Which also makes sense because it's only recently that travel and transportation have made faraway areas accessible.

This is very true.

Plus I was waiting around in my dad's office and I was a laboratory report sheet. There are different results dependent upon the race of the person whose blood, tissue, etc. was tested.

Whether that's true or not, cannot be 100% proven though, for the reasoning I gave in my last post.
