ClareJonsson
I have just heard that BT are starting to roll out fibre optic broadband in the UK, I would be really interested in how much of an improvement it really is. So this thread is aimed at anyone who is in the UK and has moved over to fibre broadband, could you post here your experience of the service compared to standard broadband. Furah
Whilst I neither am in the UK, nor have fibre at home, I can tell you from my experiences with the fibre at TAFE that it is very fast and reliable. Using it has blown me away. In fact I am jealous that fibre is being rolled out there. The best I can get is wireless broadband which is beaten by satellite for worst broadband method. ClareJonsson
Thanks for that info, but I reckon it's going to be quite a while before fibre arrives here in Mid Wales. But I'm glad BT have made a start at upgrading the UK :) [Assist-X]
Jernlov
From what my friends have told me, it's reliable and consistently fast. However, I would be pretty happy if ADSL2+ ever came out my way seeing as I live pretty much right next to my phone exchange. Norfolk villages are probably never going to get ADSL2+ or fibre-optic broadband, though. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
Skeptical
Funny, I just read an article about this, but I can't seem to find it. =/ Says that it blows everything else away, which seems to be the consensus of the posters here. So I can't tell it's full capacity, which is just amazing. Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. Quote of 2013. PCGamingWiki - Let's fix PC gaming! indy500fan
For the US citizens the National Broadband Plan came out last Monday: broadband.gov. AndyPandy
Hopefully it shall come to Glastonbury, or I shall not be pleased D:< It seems I am literally a few feet from what BT call 'London'. Damn. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. dsavi
Could try that, but Google's Finnish translation is patchy at best. It's also a bit strange that only one provider doesn't give me an error message that my address is not in their fiber optic area, as I believe that they all use the same infrastructure. das
providers typically share infrastructure with whoever owns it, it's comical that the same phonelines can be owned by say verizon and have 9 different companies offer DSL on them "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. aarenlainey
Many countries are looking forward to fiber optic communication systems as it has ability to support an array of new telecommunication products and services such as high speed Internet and cable television, which are not feasible using current satellite communications. But hopefully they make some changes in rural broadband in the next few years. I know that they want speeds to be faster in cities, but they need to at least give rural users an option to have fast connections.

Norfolk villages are probably never going to get ADSL2+ or fibre-optic broadband, though. I feel sorry for you guys. Norwich's being treated as a beta testing place, so we're starting to see some fibre optic connections via Virgin and BT, but I fear the nicer parts of the county aren't going to get the same treatment. Still, loads of governments are making promises to get broadband to rural areas, so there's hope. ~ W ~

Out Yarmouth way, we really don't have anything apart from BT, Tiscali, Sky's cheap rubbish connection and PlusNet; none of which are particularly brilliant. The speeds off-peak are fairly decent because most villages have their own exchange, but there is just no demand for anything better at all. I get 7Mbps off-peak with Tiscali but the connection is so horribly inconsistent that I'm often left suddenly lagging out of nowhere or losing download speed. It seems to be a common problem for people on ADSLMax lines. Considering my proximity to Yarmouth, I wouldn't be surprised if we did eventually get something a little more this decade. D. V. Devnull
Quick update from the East side of the Pacific Ocean (West side of the USA) for all of you... FiOS upgrade here a couple days ago was successful... Took all day, but the new-found speed is worth it. Pages come down in the blink of an eye and everything. ClareJonsson, I'm curious... Gandalf14141
The reason Fibre optic is so fast, is that the fiber in which it travels, makes the data move at the speed of light which is absolutely amazing, I would kill (not literally of course) to get it Finally on here to update that I have officially quit!
