They are claiming that it is to stop piracy, which it is, but they are going to far. So, let me talk about things that you would have to pay for or it would be illegal to download.

I, for one, will not standby while the government outlaws freeware "just in case."

Basically the Senates are voting weather we should have the internet filtered. IF is passes, forgot free downloads, you cant post certain things, Youtube will be blocked in certain countries (already is) and the internet speed will drop due to the force (no pun intended) of the Filter trying to well...filter it all. It's not going to happen. It's some congressman flexing his political muscle for some e-peen. The United States in generally is for net neutrality and free exchange as long as it doesn't violate laws. Firefox, Opera, and Chrome are all unique projects based on open licensure and distributed for free by the will of their creators. They can not be sold legally, ever.

It seems unlikely that they would do this.

In which case the sites you were accessing were being slowed down at some point, probably by your ISP as it searched for certain keywords or content.

I was thinking of posting this, I've been following this for a while and it's gotten more and more scary.

 

That about the EU is not true, however. They voted on it. This says it all. I'm glad I live in the EU.

 

But I would like people to understand: This is not some /b/tard's idea of a joke, this is actually in the process of happening in the US and possibly other countries with internet freedom problems. It's good that /b/ is taking action on this, and I knew that they would, because they have a lot of influence and this is a good use of it.
