herb farming

Not that great farming xp, but it's nice profit. I do my herb runs every 2 hours (takes 75 mins to grow approx.) and most survive. Just use supercompost.

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Calculators/Farming_herbs

Use that to choose what herb to do. Make sure you're using magic secateurs, fally shield, etc.

The best farming xp is from trees, if you want to level fast. (But it wastes money.)

Edit: Note, wergalis seeds are almost impossible to get. Ignore them.

They are minimal experience, but it adds up. The best thing to do is use the profit from herbs and buy tree seeds and farm those.

The only reason people farm herbs is for the money. Those going for experience use that money to back their fruit tree/tree investments.

Dunno, I got to herb 80 by mostly farming herbs. If you go for the herb with the most experience then a level goes pretty fast.

If you do some midlevel herb such as aventoes, it goes pretty slow.

Agreed; however if you go with Avantoes and put in 5 seeds that's 15K you only need 3 avantoe herbs to break even doing them whereas for me the highest would be Snapdragons which are 84K each for the seeds thats - 420K for the 5 seeds and therefore I'd need ~24 herbs to break even...... I guess I'd stick with the Avantoes ;)

I did herbs/allotments only all through 85 farming. I also did 95-97 farming with herbs only as well - at this time Torstols were in the top 3 herbs for profit/patch (not at the moment, though they should be soon again), and they're quite good xp compared to other herbs, was about 9k xp/run. Current herbs that give moderate money and good xp are Lantadyme and Snapdragon.

If you want to level the skill, do herbs and trees. If you want to make a quick buck, do herbs.

Herbs are half decent xp when you're doing it inbetween your ususal stuff. Like I do between slayer. Also once a day plant fruit trees, in some weird reason pineapple trees are really cheap. Like 18k each when i bought a bunch about 4-5 days ago. Pineapples are around 21k per 5 patch, once a day they are really good for their money imo.

As for which herbs to grow just would like to add my 2 centst. I agree with ezkaton that snapdragons might not be worth to grow, personally i have stuck with kwuarm for now. And is it just me or do they give better yield than the others? My average yield is between 28-30 per 4 patches. Last 8 patches i did, i got 74 kwuarms, so is it just me or have any of you noticed anything similar with either kwuarms or other herbs? (I use enchanted secateurs, but that 74 per 8 patches is still a lot more than the 6 per patch that you see in a lot of guides)

The average yield for using 5 patches with supercompost and magic secateurs is very firmly established at 6.8 herbs/patch, counting for deaths. In the last 157 herb runs I have recorded, I got 5,352 herbs, 534 marigolds, and 684 cactus spines (using giant ent). This gives averages of 6.82 herbs per patch, 0.85 marigolds per patch, and 4.36 cactus spines. The best herbs for profit are:

Wergali

Snapdragon

Avantoe

Ranarr

Toadflax

It is ALWAYS best to grow the best herb. Even if you "lose" 80k if your snap seed dies, on average it will give you more profit than the ones below it.

You'll also get 16,047 profit from marigolds and 16,796 profit from cactus spines per herb run, added to the 100-250k profit from herbs, depending on which herb you grow.

Sorry to hijack the thread; so what you're saying is always do the best herbs. So therefore snaps will give me more profit than avantoes? And also, should I farm limps or marigolds? I'm currently doing limps........ Also is it worth it to drag a giant ent around?

Yes: if all you care about is profit, do the most profitable herb. You may opt to grow a less profitable herb for more xp, but Snapdragons are both better money and profit than kwuarms so there's no reason to not grow them instead of kwuarms if you have the level.

I think limpwurts are a bit more profitable, but I was always annoyed with how often they die.

A giant ent is worth dragging around. Without it, you get 3 spines. With it, you get on average 4.36 spines. That means you get an extra 1.36 spines from the ent - 5909 gp. The ent pouch costs 2148 gp, so you're getting 3761 gp for free just by summoning it.

Marigolds are the best, and use dueling ring to get cactus spines. No idea about giant ent.

ALWAYS do the best herbs. What he's saying is overall profit.

EX: Seed 1 is 5k. Herb 1 is 2k. even thought it only takes 2.5 herbs to break even, you only get 1k profit.

Seed 2 is 100k. Herb 2 is 20k. It takes 5 herbs to break even, but once you hit 6, you have 20k profit. To reach 20k profit with herb 1 you would need A LOT more than herb 2.

Alright then, so I'm guessing I should go with snaps over avantoes then for the more profit....... I am a little sceptical, but am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt currently and give it a try. I just think that needing 24 herbs to break even might be cutting it fine with the fact that I only do the 4 patches as I haven't done troll romance yet (which I probably should do?)

And currently I'm going through a patch on RS where I'm only logging in for the odd herb run, penguins and MTK, so therefore using an ent wont really be too bad then as I'll do my herb runs then my cacti picking and not have to dismiss it at any point soon.

Yeah, without the fifth patch you won't get 6.8/patch. Also because they're so close avantoe would be better. I suppose that would indicate that you should do avantoe in those four patches and snapdragon in My Arm's.

However, you should really be growing Wergalis. They're the best profit out there right now by a long shot. You'd have to be averaging under 0.5 herbs/patch or above 8.2 herbs/patch for them to NOT be the best.

if your fine with slower levels and lots of profit, dont even bother with trees.

i usually get 40-50k xp per day just from farming herbs, but ive been doing dwarf weed.

farming avantoes or kuwarm would be much less xp.

curry trees and orange trees are the best for cost/xp ratio.

Snaps are still better cash/xp. Use 4 avantoe, and 1 snap at my arms patch. Never lose it that way, so you average 7 herbs or so from that 1 patch. Normal rate is 6.6 herbs/patch, including deaths.

Weird, I have now exactly done 100 herb patches: and 583 avantoe.. So 5.8 herb/seed.. And that's including falador with shield, and trollheim patch!

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

For some reason, I've also been getting less herbs than usual compared to last year.

Maybe it's just my mind doing tricks, but I swear the most herbs I've gotten from a patch was 7 for the past couple weeks, and multiple times I've averaged 5 herbs per seed in a run. Whats up with that?
