Seraphi
Nonono, powers are a very integral part of this system. It doesn't balance it, it's just sort of shoving it in for no real reason. It just seems like a bad idea. As I recall, many people had trouble with the confusing spell tables and such when we played before anyway... 4e fixes that. No confusing lists to memorise or anything. Grim_
Okay so scrap the loss of powers and add the familiar to the chopping block? Also the two to three spell slots for each school of magic you had (reserved) would essentially rid most of the confusion (you just have to write down your spell book on a .txt document or whatever). But I get your point on how there's no real reason to put it in (aside from general dissatisfaction with the wizard spellbook currently [mostly due to lack of customization]). Or if you wanted to further prohibit the power of the wizard you could have them choose 2-3 of the schools to cast from (and have all others prohibited). But I get your point and will drop the subject (for now) after putting out my two cents.
Seraphi
I just don't like the idea. People have tried to mix 3.5 and 4 before, and it has never worked. You have no idea how many threads have tried, failed, and given up attempting to do this.
Grim_
On a note about the squire thing; To actually use it you have to have at least the trial version of the d&d character generator it would seem. I am looking for a way to manually input values into it however...
Retech
I found 3.5 easier. I'm still trying to figure out 4.0, but it's more difficult because there isn't a SRD for it. What are action points? Seraphi
Action points are things you can use to modify rolls. They don't come up often, so don't worry about it too much.
Seraphi
Okay, after talking with some people about this, it really does seem that you guys want to play 3.5 instead of 4, despite what I say. Really, I don't care which I run, I find both fun to DM for, so yeah. I've requested that Doom create a poll to decide once and for all which edition to use, so it's up to you guys now. Retech
Already half done with my 3.5 character sheet. This time I won't be dumb and put all my points into intelligence. Btw, I am creating a good cleric Drow, who is occasionally struck by her bloodthirsty Drow ancestry. :shades: Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county! Grim_
If we do in fact do 3.5e I would kind of like ross's okay on something that would be relatively powerful (a wizard build/prestige class); The Malconvoker.

She was supposed to become a priestess herself and rise through the ranks as her mother wanted to, as supposedly, she had very bloodthirsty attributes. When she first began her training, she realized that there was no point in being the servant of a deity whose self proclaimed mission was to kill everyone, which eventually meant her servants. She fled to the temple of Eilistraee, the chaotic goddess of the Drow, Lady of the Dance, and the Dark Maiden. Eventually the sect was destroyed by the warriors of Lolth, and all the supporters of Eilistraee were forced to flee.
