Mastyx's: The Xp Trap?

Featured Replies

Lately, I've been hearing more and more users swear that killing "dinos" hurts overall experience at the end of a dungeoneering floor. I think this is ridiculous, and quite the opposite, seeing as the multiplier is dependent on how many monsters a player leaves. Is there any official word on this?

Well dinos don't count as killed monsters for the level modifier since they don't count for guardian doors either, but them giving negative xp seems pretty unlikely.

It's true.

Apparently killing dinosaurs makes you lose points = negative experience.

Lots of players know this but I"m not quite sure how it started check rsof?

Unless stated otherwise I see no proof that this is true.

Back when BA was released, players swore up and down that using the cannon reduced the teams overall points. We now know this was never the case. Jagex even had to put an option in quick chat to state using the cannon did not reduce the XP.

This is just a repeat of the same event.

So unless a Jmod/Kbase says so, I am going to say killing the "dino's" through combat instead of traps has no reflection on your overall scores.

I've never seen any evidence to suggest this.

It certainly has no effect on the multipliers, and doesn't appear to change the base XP either.

Sounds like a baseless rumor to me.

Hunting always gives you at least one hide, whereas killing them doesn't even guarantee that.

regardless of whether it hurts your xp to kill them or not, it's better to hunt them anyways.

I agree with the above for the most part. No evidence to support this, and doesn't make sense logically. If buying from the smuggler, mining, or runecrafting don't hurt you, this certainly shouldn't either.

All that jagex states is that if you want hides, hunt them, as you have a chance of getting one if they are normally killed.

Well, killing them takes time, and time is xp, so I suppose if you REALLY wanna stretch the definition, killing dinos reduces your overall xp average.

But imo, go right ahead and kill them. No real harm done :s

Perhaps what the OP is saying that there's a glitch with the dinosaurs, that killing (not hunting) them will lower your exp?

Though I don't see the evidence for this either.

Well, just this morning I did a level and only got a 9% level bonus instead of 10%. I did hunt two mastyx on this level.

It's more likely that I missed a monster or two somewhere than that the mastyx had anything to do with it, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Actually, even when the level mod does say 10%, it will still give you only 9% at the total modifier.

Rounding glitch, methinks.
