May 17, 201016 yr After reading the story of a nam protester and listening to the Beastie Boys I was wondering "what if individuals could control where money from their own personal tax is spent?". Obviously people would spend it on areas which they are either concerned about or which effect them personally and economically. I dont really have an established opinion but none of my money would build bombs. Here is the story of the nam protesters self immolation:And on November 3, 2006, on an off-ramp during rush hour in Chicago, Malachi Ritscher immolated himself. His suicide note read: "Here is the statement I want to make: if I am required to pay for your barbaric war, I choose not to live in your world. I refuse to finance the mass murder of innocent civilians, who did nothing to threaten our country... If one death can atone for anything, in any small way, to say to the world: I apologize for what we have done to you, I am ashamed for the mayhem and turmoil caused by my country." fyi I am unashamedly far left and find the parallels you can draw between the current "war on terror" (dropping bombs on the middle east non-stop for 21 years ) and Vietnam
May 17, 201016 yr Mine would go towards the military, schools, and public workers. I wouldn't pay for welfare or sending non-white people to college or anything like that. So, basically Earthysun is Jesus's only son.

May 17, 201016 yr Employ more teachers, nurses and police. Drop public funding for museums (apart from those that have a historic value, i.e. drop "modern art" etc) and media. Strengthening the army, once they've revised how spending is done to make it more effective without having five billion employed on the administrative side. Also re-open two or three former air force bases. Drop free health care and uni-studies for foreigners. Temporarily stop all immigration unless it's people who are seeking employment in an area that needs to employ to sort out all of ours problems. Tighten the rules and regulation about welfare. Dropping public service tv which claims to be "free television (i.e. no political agenda)", you americans have a problem with FOX (at least many of the liberals), and it's the same thing with our tax funded tv channel (yes i know FOX is not tax funded..) only the other way around, it's not a right agenda, it's a left agenda. Lower taxes for businesses, particularly small businesses. Remove the mandatory tax payment for a public health insurance if you are paying a private one. May 17, 201016 yr Local projects...its my money, I should see how it is spent and it should benefit me and the local community.Fixes all the problems, since now everyone does what is in their own interest...just like a capitalist economy...None of this rubbish about armies and social spending...giving money to the poor from the rich....or rather, giving money from the poor to the rich... If people are worried about the armies then let them join up and pay their taxes as their wages. Everyone else can get on and do something productive. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

May 17, 201016 yr I'd pay for eduction, more public aid, but most of all ending out damn debt. Funding for public parties, parades, cultural events etc would be gone, as would funding for Afghanistan. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
May 17, 201016 yr I would refuse to pay for the war. As it is, I may have to move to another country to avoid being forced into supporting the war in Afghanistan. (Lol, Canada being too violent and aggressive.) More money for education, none for fighting bud. Hell, I'd subsidize it, lmao. On the other side however, increased medical costs and education dropouts make it a difficult decision. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
May 17, 201016 yr That stuff always does it to me. There are very valid reasons why many women get breast implants. They *should* be covered in most cases, and singling that out as some sort of example of horrible waste or corruption is ignorant nonsense. And what's worse, it spreads around the Internet from one person to another, with 99% of people not even bothering to find out if it is true. I guarantee he didn't. May 17, 201016 yr Breast cancer? Congenital deformities? Problems related to puberty onset? Psychological issues? The majority of women who have breast implants pay to have the operation performed on a private basis. This is because the NHS rarely funds breast implant procedures purely for cosmetic reasons.http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Breast-implants/Pages/When-should-it-be-done.aspx Took me 30 seconds to find that. But at the end of the day, I have no desire to see my tax dollars spend on something that ultimately has only a cosmetic purpose. Bear in mind I live in Canada so the NHS is irrelevant. On the other side however, increased medical costs and education dropouts make it a difficult decision. I was just kidding about subsidizing it... I would want the government to tax the crap out of it. Then use the money for education and healthcare. Really though, it's not about money: in a perfect world, there would be no cigarettes or weed, and very little alcohol. Unfortunately, it's here to stay, and pot isn't all that bad. May 17, 201016 yr Consider this: Along with your yearly 1040, you get to vote for which programs you would like to see receive funding. From a list of maybe 200, you might choose your 15 favorites. The surplus tax pie (after paying down the national debt) could then be divided up according to the results of the tally. For example, if 3.6% of the votes went to "undersea exploration" then 3.6% of the budget surplus would go to that group of programs. May 17, 201016 yr If this topic is about the US: repaying the deficit. every single penny of my taxes would go there. the US cannot afford not to pay down the deficit, which interets will consume all spending in the future otherwise. I'm freaking out that noone else has said repaying the deficit. yes, you may not have been those spending the money, it's like inheriting a loan though: you get the house, but you have to continue paying the loan. the house is just about ready to be in an unending spiral towards reposession unless downpayments are made NOW.
