Why does Jagex make you wait 40 seconds before changing worlds?

No it was implemented way before that. Back in 2005, it was still there. (i'd know, i was switching worlds to find somewhere i could mine iron with my lvl 30 mining)

That's right....My RS timescale seems to be running together.

I'm pretty sure its to slow down the collection of rare resources. If it was removed rune mining would probably be one of the best money makers in the game.

Not really, though. More runite ores would be mined so supply would go up and price down - meaning that people wouldn't make as much profit from it and it would probably be good for economy to have lower runite ore prices. Plus, I'm sure the profit would still not be that great compared to other kinds of money making methods there are these days - probably not more than 500k per hour, right? So it seems kinda dumb that Jagex would make everybody suffer so much just to avoid a few "problems" like these which aren't really all that bad, especially because most of the problems have been fixed by now.

@tortillachp - I didn't know you used tip.it forums, have you posted on any of my other posts without my recognizing it was you? :D

I remember I used to run into this problem a lot when I was F2P and looking for empty training spots but not so much these days (so it's not as annoying).

Did Jagex implement this to stop botters?

If so,

Is it really still necessary to make us wait the 40 seconds?

I believe they introduced it early on in rs2 to stop people buying out resources too fast and also have a delay on rune rock mining. The first part of this reasoning is now gone, but the second one still holds true.

They have to have it. They even say "your profile is being transfered".

You can't just switch stuff like that.

The servers are totally different from each other. You have to wait to change.

What's so whine about it?

Umm...no. It is technically possible(proven by the fact that it was possible at the start of rs2 and in rsc) but they just don't want people to be able to change worlds this often.

My problem with this is simple: it's a lie.

This is a common pattern with Jagex. They make a perfectly valid gameplay decision -- like "we don't want you switching servers instantly and hogging resources" -- but instead of just being open about it, they come up with BS like "your profile is being transferred".

It's bullcrap. Period. It doesn't take 40 seconds to transfer a small bit of information from their home servers to any of the local servers. Not even close. The servers are in constant communication or the game wouldn't even work.

Try this. Load your hiscores, then log in and get some XP in any skill. Now log out, and then refresh your hiscores. The new totals will be there instantly.

dorgeshuun rich chests would be 300k+ thieving xp/hour along with 600k+ gp/hour were it not for the world hop timer for example.

That and i'm sure there are plenty of other ways to exploit this.

Oh, I didn't know about that. I guess Jagex would have to first make it so that, regardless of what world a player is on on, the chest (or rune rocks etc..) would not respawn until a certain amount of time had passed for that particular player. I don't know how possible or likely of an undertaking that would be for Jagex. Can anybody think of similar things that Jagex has already put in the game that would show it's at least a possibility?

I'd rather them have them fix the issue it eats into pot/familiar times while counting down.

Without a timer you could just -near- instantly hop by having multiple games open. That just isnt good for gameplay. If you really cant see why thats bad then just read previous comments.

I cant remember how many worlds there are but say you can hope them all within a minute. Thats terrible as all the respawns be gone by a handfull of people. Of which know when they respawn and repeat.

Not to mention its easy to have programs do most of the work for you that wouldnt be braking any rules or be detectable even if it was. They cant make rules against that kinda thing. Plus you could just make programs that automatically do it which kinda do brake rules I suppose but would be impossible to detect and would act exactly the same as if you were manually switching.

Best and easiest prevention is having a timer.

Why'd they ditch the video advertisements for F2P in this window? Would've been an excellent source of money for them, and heck, I'm not doing anything during that time. It'd also be less annoying than the banner ads.

And yeah, I agree, the 40-second wait is extremely annoying. Unless Jagex's servers are real turtles, it should be instantly transferred within a millisecond.

It was implemented years ago to stop people switching worlds unfairly (world switchers, toolkits, bookmarks) as you were "supposed" to go back to the RS homepage, click world select, then choose a world, however no one got banned for using bookmark links or such.

I think the world-switching wait time will be lowered in the near future, maybe to around 15 seconds as there's an in-built world switcher now.

Yes and it also slows down resource gathering for rare materials such as rune rocks.

I think that's exactly the reason they keep the 40 second transfer time. Rune miners could make mad money if there was no transfer time, rune rocks would be constantly empty in every location because of the mass of miners, and rune armor (some of the most delicately balanced prices in runescape) would endure hell in price fluctuation. I'm sure there are other reasons, perhaps hopping worlds for magic trees would be more efficient than waiting for respawn. Or other individual monsters that need respawn time.
