high alchemy: useless?

many people hi alch, but are they really making money? Obviously it depends what you hi alch but generally, you loose, almost every single time. But what you can compare to hi alching is collecting your pocket change. No one ever wants it, but if you have enougn.. your in the money. No one wants to buy your yew longs, but you hi alch. Im preety shure thats the only thing besides mage longs that you actually make cash on.. (14gp and 110gp, respectively.) In other words if a nat costs 300g and mage logs are 1k each and bowstrings are 150 you could just sell them.

Don't forget you also gain magic exp from high alc, a lot of people (including me) hi alc not only for the money (which true is less then if sold it) but for the magic exp as well.

Are you kidding me? I make my yew longbows. then I buy the bow strings (150 each) . Then I make my natures.

I high alch the longbows getting 618gp each time I high alch and if I high alch about 1.5k longbows then Im getting over 900k profit.

Even if you buy the yewlong bows (s) for 500 each (which is what I did before lvl 70 fletching) you can still get (very small) profit if you also buy your natures from the runestore. Buy if you make your natures then you get about 268gp profit each time.

Overall highalching is about the only way I make money and now that I can make my own yew longbows it is VERY profitable. Plus, when you are making this money you get magic, runecrafting, woodcutting and fletching exp. So I think its a pretty good deal

The point of high alchemy is to train magic without (literally) losing any money.

actually jackallope you arent really making what you think. because if you sell the yews, sell teh nats, and sell the bowstrings you have: viola! 750g and how much u get from 1 yew long: 764. so i would rethingk the 900k profit thing.

Umm what are you talking about? I still get about 900k profit if I high alch my own bows and only buy the bow strings... Yes if I sold all the things seperatly I would get more money, but im not only doing it for money. I have lvl 73 mage, I got there from high alching and I plan to get higher by alching.

lol jackallope you answered your question: umm what are you talking about. im assuming you understood to answer?

Well you said "your not making what you think". And I acually am. If I have 1.5k yew longs and you multiply that by 664 (which is the profit I get from each one) it equals: 996000. So it is acually more, but I was just apporximating.

I am making what I think im making.

That's simply not true, it depends on how you get the nats. Sure, if you buy them, you'll make a lot less, but who says you have to buy them?

Put it this way, boys and girls...

You just made 10k steel plates to train your smithing level. What are you going to do with the by-product?

Sell to people? I would like to see you try...

Give it out in Lumbridge? I fancy you'll get called a "noob" for every fifth plate you give out...

You high alchemy it of course.

Also, remember that alch wasn't made (mainly) to make money, but to improve your magic level without an expense and/or to do something with the by-products of smithing.

heh i just figured out what hi alching is: its the icing on the cake. Now before you call me an idiot noob, listen to what i have to say. When you hi alch you can always sell the raw materials (yews, bowstrings, etc.) for a profit, but hi alching gives you a few avantages:

1. No buyer/seller fursturation - its all you and noone else

2. Mage xp

3. Increased gold (More gold then selling the raw materials, best represented in magic longbows

4. Homeade everything = experience in a variety of skills

PS: Incase you guys cant read, there was a question mark (?) behind useless. That means its not a statement, but encourages you to voice your opinion.
