Private servers

People make fake, illegal versions of runescape called private servers, in the hope of getting away with it. It's like pirate copies of films, except they don't get sued for making them because Jagex does little, or nothing to stop them. The annoying thing is that no action has been taken against them. I really hate private servers, Runescape should only be played in the legal version made by Jagex who work so hard to mantain it.

Agree?

This is true, I agree completely with the post however, i'm not entirely sure but during at time, Jagex didn't have any copyright rules and thats when private servers such as M****scape was made.

I remember one called Frugooscape, they also used the whole jagex game but added in items after copyright constraints were put upon runescape, they were sued and shut down.

Anyways... this topic is stating the obvious. Infringement of copyright is not just morally wrong, but against the law too.

I could care less. What they do in private servers has no bearing on the actual runescape or on me.

^This

I feel that as long as it doesn't affect me in-game *directly*, I don't really care about it. What they want to do in their servers is none of our concern, its for Jagex to deal with.

I really don't see the point in getting angry over something like this, its a waste of an emotion really.

This. Private servers are always vastly inferior to the real game, so if someone wants to play a cheap knock-off of RS while risking infecting his computer, by all means go for it.

If some noob wants to go play a copy of RS that doesn't affect me or the real RS, by all means, go for it. I couldn't care less. In fact, less people stealing my spots and driving the cost monks down is good.

Using a private server is a big waste of time, your not even playing the real game, you have no progress saved, no one cares about what you got, there is no accomplishment period. Runescape (to the outside world) is already a "n00by" game, without any sense of accomplishment or feeling of pride in your account its a complete drain of your life.

I will admit I have played a few out of curiosity, and I much prefer the real thing because:

A ) Its managed by people who know what there doing.

B ) There's no self acomplishment getting a quick 99 on a server of which will crash and restart your stats every so often.

C ) Pures. (Yep) they're just as rude and obnoxious in PS's then the real RS.

As for cracking down, there have been a few cases where Jagex has forced them to shut down, and times where jagex has crashed their servers to no repair (since they made the coding) for stealing their program code etc. The only reason you dont hear of it often also is because they try to persuade owners of PS's to shut them down with the hint of suing so that it doesn't get splattered all over news etc.

i remember fruogo-scape, i would never play it but one of friends did.

for sake of laznyness, in that game you can type "::home::" to tely to lumbrige at any point, anywhere instantly. while playing real rs i saw some type that and realise that it does not work.

got some lolz out of that!

but on topic, private servers are nuthing but unsafe rip-offs of rs. if i could i would stop people playing them (or at least just the bad/iligle ones) but i cant, and thay dont really negitively efect rs.

some of them dont even care about laws (more so then normal...), talking about frogo again, got sued and shut down by jagex.

sometime the next week someone remade it

eh, if thay dont brake corpyright laws, dont try to steal acount details, and dont contain any form of malwere (can you find one thats fits all 3?), besides pointlessly makeing the game to easy and buggy. i got nuthing agaisnt them.

It's impossible to create a private server without breaking copyright laws.

i don't really understand the point of this post. servers are fun for like a week tops (usually more like 2 days) and once you realize EVERYONE has 100mil and most 99 skills it takes away the sense of accomplishment. years ago i must have downloaded one and i logged on a few months ago to find a community of 1000+ and even an option for membership.. $20 a month. they're mostly fun for people who suck at the actual game and 12 year olds who then come onto runescape saying 'LOL I HAF WHIP AND P HAT ON SERVER"

Aren't they... super buggy and full of lag though? I haven't heard anything on private servers for about 2-3 years now.

there is nothing wrong with private servers (apart from the fact they are breaking infringement laws), they are not a problem to anyone who plays runescape. It is not like they affect the game in anyway

Morally i couldn't care less if it's ripping off of Jagex's work for 10 years now, people rip off of others for free all the time, on a massive scale nowadays with pirating and have no remorse whatsoever, so why should i have for someone copying a game. On a note i didn't see anyone mention, trying to create a private server for any game can be decent training in trying to learn how the game works, on the coding side. To my mind i think it's why most people try it initially (those who actually host the servers) and then they get greedy and start to think of profits.

A properly coded, well working private server, with all the features of the main game except that you could obtain the items you wanted instantly might have another positive thing: you don't grind anymore, you can just type and voila, you and your buddies are off to battle Armadyl or whichever boss you please in an instant, without the needless months/years of grinding (which thank god i got rid of since i don't play this game anymore). Ofcourse it also takes the fun in the sense that you are not actually risking anything, but if you have a solid group of friends with you, that's what matters to me, having fun. So in that sense you could simply go with friends and have a ball from time to time and skip the tedious grinding for the items.
