Are private servers illegal? Because I personaly think that RuneScape is worse than at the beggining, so I found this awsome private server wich is actually an old RuneScape (it's in my signature and I will delete it if it's not by the rules), and I want to know if I can get banned or anything that will in any way hurt my account.

It's a copyright/intellectual property issue and they are both against Jagex and Tip.it rules. You can either delete the link in your sig, or a mod'll do it for you (I advise you do it first).

 

Also, you won't get banned for using one because you cannot be found out, but it is against Jagex rules.

With those stats it looks like you've only been playing for a few months or so? How would you even know what an older Runescape was like?

Depends how the server works to if u can get caught.

If it is indeed talking to jagex log on server to get your account they can find you out and ban you as the login server will show up your account being sent to some random non-jagex server and back.

Why were you hyped up to begin with? Besides, if you got banned, it would take maybe a month or two to reach your levels again.

Probably not, I dont even see anything on it being against the rules. Idk why everyone is saying p servers are against the rules because they aren't.

 

They are not agaisnt the rules directly, they are however against the law and the copyright and it is mentioned in the terms and conditions you agree to when making an account.

Although private servers are not a reportable offense in Jagex's collection of in-game rules, it's still against the rules to use them. You're also supporting copyright infringement. In addition, many can and will download spyware or malware, or try to hack your Runescape account with the details you give.

 

It's up to you what you do, but private servers are against Jagex and Tip.It rules, and generally a bad idea.

I don't really get it.

 

I thought you had to make a new account to play on a private server? If that's the case, I can't see how you'd think your ordinary account could get banned..

Understandable. To sum up this topic and to answer the question, don't do it. They could give you key loggers or oter types of viruses. Simply not worth the risk at all.
