Since money carries over, and research is also weighted in years....its not quite as clever as you might think to hoard your cash.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

1m into Improved gun research. 13.1 left.

Oh, and for what it's worth, there were some pretty big battles, ie: Waterloo, with about 200k soldiers fighting, and in total the Sixth (Or seventh, I forget) coalition had something like 1m troops, vs. France's 250k or so. Not in one battle, but still.

Dusty only stated that you had to pay 1 mil (1.5 mil for me) each budget reset to stay with the rest of the world in technology. So I can just pay at the end, and I'll never fall behind in technology.

Could Dusty list the fields of research? I'm saving my monies (roughly 9 million left) until the very end before the reset, so I don't get caught with no money at any time. :P

The fields are pretty much whatever you want to research. Like, instead of researching farming you can research agriculture as that gives you the whole umbrella of everything under it. The more broad the field you're putting money into is generally the better, but if you get down to specifics (like researching a new type of musket, for example) then it may go faster. Who knows (it's all random).

Well, if you get attacked you still need to pay deployment costs for troops.

Those were the size of the respective armies, which included all the supply officers, scouts, provots, and everything else. The amount of fighting troops was a lot less.

This is true.

My [cabbage]ty computer decided to die yesterday, so I won't be able to make maps and such for a few weeks.

So when is the second budget?

July 2nd

I'll invest 1mil in land weapons, agriculture, and tariff efficiency. Also, I'll bribe those pesky clergy.

Pshaw, you don't have your Model 10 Time Machine yet, Rocco? Jeez, you're so old school.

(Yes August 2nd, my apologies)

Well, if you get attacked you still need to pay deployment costs for troops.

If you need 9 million for deployment then you need 90 million to buy that many troops...

If Russia deployed it's full starting army then it would only cost 3.5 million, plus 350,000 for the full starting navy...thus hoarding 9 million serves no real purpose...

Dusty only stated that you had to pay 1 mil (1.5 mil for me) each budget reset to stay with the rest of the world in technology. So I can just pay at the end, and I'll never fall behind in technology.

This is true.

PMs state that research is measured in years and the cash spent on it...

And its kinda game breaking to be able to wait until the end of the reset and then spend your money...It means you can just sit around with a huge budget, preventing anyone attacking you, and then spending it on research at the last second...

And to get around that just leads to people munchkining and otherwise being idiots with the game:

'I(Russia) spend my budget on research at 1 second to midnight on the 31st of December.'

'I attack Russia at 0.5 seconds to midnight on the 31st of December with my full army and they can't fight back since they have no money.'

Or just having 10 days of total silence followed by every country attacking in the last second the the year of the reset...essentially gambling as to how many naughts they put after the decimal...(0.000001 seconds to midnight, and such)

Far better to have research be measured in years, with the budget gradually tapering...and since the budget carries over you can just allocate X amount that doesn't get spent, so you always have a defensive budget.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Though you kinda have to do it that way. I was paying money to keep up with the world, but if there's no world to keep up with yet...

Besides, Dusty was always saying I'm be slammed by random events, so I have to prepare for that by utilizing my best resource (hoards of money).

Dusty is using the real world technological milestones as guidelines...So perhaps researching history will give you some pointers on what to research.....

So the earliest you could get Gattling Guns would be 1860, the earliest you could get X-Rays would be 1895 and the earliest you could get revolvers would be 1818 or 1836, depending on which Dusty feels like.

If you don't research things then you seem(going from what Dusty said) to fall behind... But I am not really sure what that means exactly.

Then Dusty turns on his Troll face and makes one where you lose a % of money.

If Dusty did that then it would stop people asking questions and cause a tonne of problems for him later on when people got seriously angry with him because he didn't tell them that building a hydro-electric dam on the River Thames was gonna flood out London.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I'm sure that Dusty doesn't want us to search for everything we want to build. The reason we're even doing an older time period is probaly because the technologies won't get out of hand. I am willing to pay at the beginning of the budget period to stay with all trends (basically catch up no matter what, unless someone invests a lot more), but since he introduced it in the middle of a budget reset and I hadn't calibrated the rest of my budget to it, then I have to do this until we get our next budget reset.

Also, I can't think of all the fields.

Agriculture

Industry

Artillery - Guns and Cannons

Steam Power

That's basically it.

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

You can't invest 'alot more'....The research scale is essentially fixed, thus technology can't get out of hand because technology only ever occurs at the rate that it historically occured....While he says that you can get there slightly faster it is more than likely a case of 1 in 100 years to prevent people like me telling people like you (Crazy people and rich people) to research machine guns with 20 million a reset and get it done in 5 years.

There is no way to get ahead, unless you research something that no one else researches...

Thus starting researching something at the beginning of a reset, and then having someone swoop in at the end of the reset and be at the same level of development as you, would be very annoying.

Also, I can't think of all the fields.

 That is kinda the point...

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a game about technology.

That is why I am asking Dusty for a list of fields, so I can just invest in them all and not have to worry about it.

Naval research as well.

And then anything else you want that could give you a benefit in the game (Icu for example is researching winter equipment, which would reduce the attrition his armies take in cold environments).

There are no real major 'must have' technologies though. I think the only one that gives you a major boost is the steam engine and railroads.

If you don't research things then you seem(going from what Dusty said) to fall behind... But I am not really sure what that means exactly.

It just means that you won't get that technology until you research it.

PMs state that research is measured in years and the cash spent on it...

No, the PM states that it's determined by the cash invested per budget reset.

Announcement - Prussia:

Prussia sets up the Active and Passive Offices at the Prussian Military Academy, as well as the War Office.

Himmler begins work on poison gas grenades.

General Motors and General Electric are set up in Berlin and Saxony and oversee the production of two Thunder Fountains.

Prussia has begun mobilizing its army.

Okay-

Agricutlure

Rifle/musket improvements

Steam power/Railroads (When it gets to a certain point, it switches over)

Naval Research

Mass production (Hopefully lowering cost of soldiers by a bit for their equipment, and lowering cost of artillery)

Two thousand Lancers are transferred from Siberia to the Western front, just incase.

I'll take the available African land then. I'll name it Federation of African Provinces, or [bleep].

Mather this topic has been going rather slow lately so.... I'm pretty sure rocco's right. (Also I'm fairly sure there was no F.A.P. in the napoleonic times so that would make it a no go as well)

Mather the fact remains that YOU CANNOT PICK A COUNTRY WHERE NONE EXISTS IN THE TIME PERIOD. Ask dusty about it (he may have something set up).

Seems more fair the way I requested mine to be made thand me having to start with 1% of what you have.

Or I could start with a Federation of (native)American Tribes.
