Oh, I just got an idea: If you put an infinite number of mirrors in a way that you would see one in the previous one in the previous one etc., you would eventually be seeing the past.

Duuude, wooaah.

Sounds like it could work though. Could.

Also a mindbleep

1. Get a mirror, place it 10 lightyears away in space

2. Get a telescope, look in the mirror

3. See yourself 20 years ago.

No, no you'd see what you looked like 20 years ago. After all, 20 years ago you hadn't been standing there yet.

You mean you would see whatever was standing twenty years ago where you are standing now.

It's an interesting concept, if not entirely possible if you consider error and the atmosphere and dust clouds and all that space junk I know nothing about. Maybe, if perfected, scientists could use it to see dinosaurs? It would be an intersting tie between astrophysics and archeaology.

That's what I meant, I just accidentally typed the wrong words.

The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.

I told her there was a secret method to doing it - and there is - but my once nimble and agile fingers were unable to perform because I was under the influence.

I would laugh, not hate. I'm a male. :(

Since when was Ireland an island...? :wall:

I actually have a hobby of licking public toilet seats.

Doesn't need to be an infinite amount of mirrors, just several thousand. And time, lots and lots of time.

Enough to actually set all of those mirrors tens of light years away and in the right spot.

I think that's too much effort for too little of a reward :P

The trippy part would be that in ~20 years, when we look at that spot we'll see the mirror being set up.

They'd also probably be too small to see.

Yea but... couldn't you just film yourself putting up the mirrors and look at it 20 years later? Same result.

What is happiness, and how does one acquire it?

Keeping busy and putting effort into what you do, dealing with the [cabbage] life dumps on you well. Also money and sex.

Keeping busy and putting effort into what you do, dealing with the [cabbage] life dumps on you well. Also money and sex.

The question certainly has no correct answer, and this is one that applies to many people.

What I see here is constant motion, conformity, materialism, and sensual pleasures. In short, the pack dog mentality - proving yourself successful in the eyes of society makes you happy.

For me, I would say happiness is a state of mind, and is really just a denial of negativity for the time being. It comes from a feeling of success, which in turn is produced by striving for excellence in those areas a person values. So Iamdan would say wealth and women make him happy, while Aristotle wrote that happiness arises from the perfection of the intellect and the search for truth.

Hmmm.... What a great question for this thread. :^_^:

Well I agree with you that happiness it is a state of mind that denies negativity, I'm not sure if it has to come from a feeling of success. Yesterday I was slightly stressed from school, so when I got back home and I tried to relax and start caring less. I put myself in a state of mind to except any failure that came my way and not let it upset me. I made myself happier by just blocking out stress, not by really succeeding at anything. I realized that I am the most happy when I just get myself to relax and focus in on the moment, when I can forget about all the problems that I may have and just enjoy what I have in front of me. That's why I can say that I haven't had a "bad" day for a long time, I eliminate stress and that makes me happy, regardless of success.

Can a blind man see in his dreams? Can a deaf man hear in his dreams? (Assuming blind/deaf from birth)

What happens when we find the meaning of life? What happens if you travel faster than light? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachyon

Hmm

Hmm

No to your first two questions. How can someone see or hear something if they have never seen or heard before?

What happens when we find the meaning of life?

A lot of people have found the meaning of life, it allows you to understand yourself and what you want to do with your life better. But the meaning can always be evolving and sometimes is misleading.

What happens if you travel faster than light?

Well that is impossible with the current laws of physics. But I'm guessing if you did, you would beat out time itself.

Any evidence for your claims? You seem to be speaking from experience, which is obviously not the case.

Blind/deaf people unable to perceive sight/sound. It seems more logical for blind people 'seeing' with sounds instead of images, but thoughts have some sort of voice to it, so...

To be honest, I consider asking the meaning of life to be stupid question. And here is why....

Life, is what you make it. It's a completely subjective meaning, thus asking waht is the meaning, is pointless.

But isn't everyone's meaning the meaning of life? There certainly can't be a universal opinion.
