The Grand Exchange: A Love Story.

Other than the mechanics, the only thing I have to complain about the GE is the location. I don't see why you can't have a GE at every bank (excluding bank chests, of course).

Unnecessary lag and space, imo.

It's not exactly hard to get to. The first varrock achievement diary gives you the ability to tele right at the G.Es doorstep. Also, isn't the G.E fun to go to? The highest density of players in most every world. It gives it a special shine.

It actually irritates me greatly because all the players won't display at once, general spam, lag, etc. If I have to go to the GE on a populated world even on my boyfriend's grade-a computer, I go with public off.

The grand exchange is an excellent tool. It's perfect in itself, but the problems it has are due to trade restrictions that are imposed on it.

People can say the GE is reponsible for unbuyable rares and other good items, but that's no free trade + merch + etc etc's fault

People can say the GE is responsible for the general practice of dumping items at lowest to sell them faster, and as such the lowering in price of commodities, but that's also due to imposed price fluctuations that can't handle real-time supply and demand.

Grand Exchange is one of the best things to happen to RuneScape. The rules it has to adhere to are some of the worst.

Price ceiling and price floor is not too much of a problem, thats how real life stock exchange works as well (in fact, the good can be taken out of the market if it drop or rise too much).

The initial price of a real life stock isnt set by us either, it is set by the stock proposer.

Anyway, Jagex should stop pretending GE is a free market as its not and they should intervene if their initial price is far beyond the market price (ie: no trade). It have been done before on ash a year ago.

The only thing I dont like much about GE is the quota of the maximum amount of goods you can buy/sell each day.

With the current system ((Have a read on http://forum.tip.it/topic/282690-how-the-grand-exchange-fulfills-offers/), there is no point of doing so since the mass buyer would not get a trade faster than a small buyer nor the higher bidder would win. And besides, the buyer would simply ask someone to buy it for them or resort to black market or breaking rule 6.

Don't the trade limits stop people with enough money to buy complete monopoly of an item? Or do you figure that it's so pointless that no-one would consider doing it?

I like what the GE did to the imp catcher quest :P.

But yeah, without the GE I couldn't be farming the torstol I do, because I don't like trading in busy places. I find it difficult to keep an eye on what the other person is saying while the trade window is open (first add as friend then change chat from hide to friends - too much hassle imo).

I think if you put your chat on hide, or some other option, you will only see what the person who is trading you is saying.

Now if free trade was your only way to make money it couldn't have been that honest, but I still found this unnerving.

There were lots of legit merchants, stakers, and pkers before the trade limit who made a ton, everyone wasn't lurers and scammers.

Dragon drops: 82 (2 claws)

Dagannoth kings drops: 73

Barrows item count: 51

GWD drops: 54 (5 hilts: 1x bandos, 3x saradomin, 1x zamorak)

Whips: 4

Sigils: 1x spectral (FFA), 1x arcane (FFA)

What I still don't understand are the people who stand around the GE stating that they are buying something on the GE: Spamming the same message for who knows how long.

It's not as if any item put in the GE because of their advertising will actually go to them.

I think the GE also resulted in another form of laziness. People don't go to general stores any more to buy regular items. You will see someone standing for half an hour around the GE asking for a general item. Nobody is selling.

They could just have tele'd to the relevant general store, bought it, and be back for tea within 3 minutes, instead of standing around the GE like an noob.

I mostly like the GE. Makes buying and selling easy.

Of course, I'm not complaining about how elusive it is. Between duelling ring+spirit trees, tabs, teleports, and glories, there are enough easy ways to get there.

It's just the fact that you HAVE to be at one place with tons of lag and spam. Furthermore, you have to dismiss your familiar. It would just be so much easier if I could go to just any bank and buy and sell items in peace with my steel titan watching over me as it prepares to leave for whatever I have planned next.

I agree that there were legit merchants stakers etc, but they had other ways to make money. Free trade isn't a pkers only source of money.

You cant really completely monopolise in GE no matter how much money you got, regardless there is a trade limit or not.

The only way you can monopolise an item is to buy up the product or its material's suppliers, which is not possible in RS.

Lets say there is currently 1k steel plates in GE and a guy called Mr Rich wants as much steel plates as possible.

For simplicity's sake, lets ignore about the pricing since including price matching would be too complicated.

Mr Rich would instant bought 100 steel plates and must wait for 4 hours before he can buy another batch in GE.

While he is waiting, he would also post his offers in forums.

However chances are not everyone are interested in reselling and not all of the steel plates sitting in GE have been bought.

After 4 hours, more steel plates come in from smithers and Mr X bought another 100. The one who are reselling to Mr X raise their price slightly higher than the price in GE as they also only have limit supplies.

Smither start realising whats going on would simply ditch the GE and start selling in the black market on forums.

If you want 200 steel plates, you must wait for 4 hours to get it. Why? Its because suppliers in forums would prefer to make a deal with Mr X as he can buy all or more of their stocks in one go than you.

Doesnt that make GE sounds a bit fail?

Without the limit and by what we have gathered, if you queue up for 200 steel plates in GE and Mr Rich queue up for 1k steel plates in GE, Mr Rich wont get his 1k steel plates faster than your 200 steel plates offers would have finished.

Unlike real world or buying in forums, no one get a bonus for buying in bulk in GE.

No matter how perfect they make the G.E the black market will always be there and have better deals.

The GE is the best update to ever happen to runescape.

I find myself agreeing with this statement.

The GE is good, but I do miss the 'fun' of going to world 2, standing in the right area, and trying to buy/sell something...was kinda exciting.

It has really just made free trading obsolete, with only a few items that 'need' to be sold from player to player.

Yeah I miss world2 too and the old skool solo merching, maybe it will be here again in a few months. GE would still have its use as it does now, just without the price restrictions but would probably be more useful for materials rather than items. I personally preferred face to face trading before GE. Not really sure why as it took forever to buy stuff, but it seamed more of an achievement specially if you managed to get it cheaper.

Thanks Gradeskip93 for my awesome sig!

The ability to mass trade without standing for hours on World 1 makes for more efficient gameplay.

~PM me and I'll do my best to make you a signature!~

I agree, while the days of standing for hours in fally park typing the same thing over and over again remind me of some great times.. i hardly miss it.

IMO the GE has been one of the best updates in runescape, ever. I like to play RS efficiently, and the GE made this possible for everyone. Im glad they're bringing back free trade and are going to keep the GE, although it will obviously go through some type of change. Should be interesting to see what jagex pulls out of their hat :)

Lets hope they do it the right way and it doesn't create more problems than it fixes.

Currently working on..

The amount of items i have bought on the g.e which i would of had great difficulty in without the g.e are numerous. So for me its a great update, it makes trading much more efficient

It wasn't fun, it was infinitely boring. .___.
