My older brother is in a management program for a casino. I've visited him a couple of times, and once we went to one of his competitors to gamble there. I played slots 4 times, never putting more than $20 in the machine at once. I left with more money than I came in, but literally any time the slot machine paid out any money I'd cash it all out.

I'll occasionally buy scratch off tickets, the ten minute dream of winning big on the drive home is worth the $1. I've had enough instruction in statistics to understand how a casino operates, so I don't think I'll ever risk/lose more than $100 in a night.

^ I wish it was mystic lake lol. I got a uncle and couple cousins from there. You know each member of that tribe gets 65 thousand dollars a month atm. No joke. It used to be 80 thousand a month a few years ago. So they get about a mil a year or so depending on casino profits at the time. You have to be 18 to start getting your monthly payments, but from the time your born up until you turn 18, your monthly payments get put into the bank for you, so when you turn 18 your set.

Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that?

Gather up your white brethren and start a country club then.

If you're the kind of person that believes hard work eventually reaps its rewards, then I can see how that would be offensive.

Our casino is Treasure Island. So not as extravagant as Mystic Lake, but we do pretty good. My dad's tribe up in Cass Lake, has 3 casinos, but they're lucky if they get a 200 dollar Christmas bonus a year lol. It's all about location, the closer you are to a major metropolitan area, the better off your casinos are. So all them tribes up north out in the woods barley make it, but they make enough to cover stuff the community needs like hospitals, and schools and such.

People are lobbying for state owed casinos now in Minnesota though, so hopefully people bank away for the future and stop spending their money foolishly. Native owned casinos have always been the target of political debate here.

You guys own Treasure Island????? Remind me never to give you my money ;) I have friends that go there on a pretty much daily basis..

I'm 21 and I've never been to a casino. I love playing poker with my buddies and we usually throw in $5-10 per game so technically I have gambled.

I'll buy a scratch ticket once every few months, never bought a lottery ticket.

Been to a casino once, lost $20 and that's it.

Nothing wrong with gambling as long as it's in moderation.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm an occasional gambler, but I never bet a lot of money.

I bet on weekend football (soccer) from time to time, but I used to play a lot of internet poker... I won some and lost some in the beginning, but in the end of my player "career" I lost a lot more than I won, so I stopped playing entirely. I do however play with mates now and again.

I was in Las Vegas for a long weekend in September of last year and since then, I never gamble or lately even go into local casinos... I just don't think it's worth it as well.. as they say... Once you've had caviar you'd be stupid to go back to tuna.

So the next time I will gamble "properly" is my next trip to Las Vegas. The place is amazing.

I play every month or so with a couple of friends for 20 dollars apiece. The winner ends up buying everyone dinner, so I ended up losing money when I won, but it was still fun.

I'm not old enough to gamble in a casino, but I doubt that I would. It doesn't really seem like my "atmosphere". Friendly games and internet poker are probably where I'll stay at.

Lucky natives! I'm from the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe...one of the poorest in South Dakota lol. I live on a Santee Sioux reservation though, the casino here isn't doing too hot.

Are you old enough to gamble? Nope.

Do you ever place any bets? If so, what on? N/A

How often do you risk money? N/A

What's the most you've ever won/lost? N/A

Is it a hobby/game or are you addicted? When I'm old enough to enter the lottery, I figure I may as well. Poker might be interesting to get into if I do some low-level techniques and go to a casino with casual players. Of course you have to have limits and quit with your losses before it gets out of hand.

Do you do the lottery? The chances are over 1 in 1000000, but hey, someone always wins - right?

I've also done poker/video game tournys with friends - there's no problems with that, just a bit of fun to add an extra edge to the competition.

RIP TET

Here's an interesting reply... I'm going to be the first to admit I've had a serious gambling problem going back a few years ago. I've probably spent close to $30,000, no word of a lie. I have Bipolar disorder and when I get on highs, I have the urge to spend money. I'm now on a mood stabilizer so my highs are nowhere near as severe. Gambling can be your best friend when you're trying to escape from other problems in your life. It can be your social life when you have none. Women are more likely to become "closest gamblers" which means they prefer to gamble alone. Most women who gamble are characterised by problem childhoods, troubled married life and troubled adult life. NSW health department (2000) found that women who gambled often gambled to escape lonliness, isolation, boredom, stress, depression, sexual assault, childhood sexual assult and domestic violence. Poker machine gambling has the ability to to arouse if a woman's mood is low and the capacity to sedate a woman from the anxiety and troubles in her day to day life.
