Skull
I know as someone with very little knowledge on the subject of tattoos, I would definitely appreciate hearing from someone with more experience on the subject. Opinions or fact, if you're willing to share your thoughts or where others went wrong that would be cool. I don't want to make incorrect statements accidentally, so a discussion about it seems like it would be the best way to learn to me. So yeah, if you disagree with something it would be great if you could say what you thought and give your reasoning so someone like me won't accidentally give bad advice or make mistakes in the future. Archangelx
Ok, this has gone far enough. Let's get back onto the OT, shall we? Anyways. Am pretty sure I am gonna at least get my first tattoo this fall at University. Awesome! Would that be the sparrow or the ChiRho? I think your idea would look really good, personally. I imagine it would sting quite a bit though, so be prepared for that, haha! Be sure to have a lot of food and water before hand, and some juice! Mr_Muto
I like the idea. Besides the sting it should turn out to be a pretty all right tattoo. I was planning to finish a sleeve this winter but I have recently changed career paths and it would be in my best interest to do a half sleeve at most :(. I think I was quoted around 5-6 hours worth of work to have it completed, I'd post up a pic but I'm afraid the shop has the only copy of what I am going to have done at the moment.

constrictor
I can't wait for the day when tattoos become acceptable in all forms of work -_- Honestly, if you work hard and have a good rep then tattoo's shouldn't be a problem, just don't make them super obvious (only get a left arm sleeve if you're right handed, etc.). Being in a city, I've realized tons of people have them and it's really not a huge deal for jobs, etc. What you guys are talking about aren't "views" or opinions you're trying to pass them off as actual fact. So it comes down to this fact alone; I know more than you in every single way about this subject. End. Of. Story. Also, not sure if trolling or a complete [bleep]. Like really dude, you're on the internet, who cares if you think you know everything and are the Aryan race of tattoo people - we have google to, we could just use that if we wanted. Ok, this has gone far enough. Let's get back onto the OT, shall we? Anyways. Am pretty sure I am gonna at least get my first tattoo this fall at University. Awesome! Be sure to have a lot of food and water before hand, and some juice! I'd probably get it a bit larger than that. Like maybe large enough that the left wing goes a little on to the top of the hand. muziclab
Mr_Muto
I will be working in a hospital and if it wasn't for that it wouldn't be a problem I don't think. I will be a combined Lab and Xray tech so it kind of sucks. The problem isn't that I'm not a hard worker or anything like that, it's just the fact that upon hiring they look at a person with clearly visible tattoos and move right on to the next qualified candidate without really giving you a shot. Or so I have been told, and I would rather wait to see instead of shooting myself in the foot early and always try and play catch up because I could have waited. At worst I can always finish my university this year and next and then after hiring I could always complete the sleeve after talking with my boss and see what the reaction would be. Plus as a college student I could use the saved money from it

But when you work don't you wear long sleeves anyways?Having prejudice against tattoos is really stupid.Should make it illegal to discriminate based on that. muziclab
Mr_Muto
It's generally short sleeved scrubs from what I understand. I won't fully know until my clinical placement next year, I could ask but I am almost certain it's T-Shirt type scrubs.

I feel that you are allowed to wear sleeves underneath that though - like a white thermal long sleeve shirt/under armor or something (tighter so as to not touch stuff or whatever). muziclab
Mr_Muto
Ah that's true, I never even thought of those. I'll have to look into it, wouldn't hurt to check at least. I generally don't even look for long sleeve shirts any more since I'm so tall and I can never find any that fit properly.

xVertigo
I understand I was a jerk, and actually that was the point. It wasn't until I was a complete ass to everyone that you guys actually stopped for a second and thought about the opinions and advice being dished out here. Constrictor, my knowledge isn't based on "Google" as if that were the case it would probably lead me to a forum much like this one where inappropriate advice is being handed out. I've been a part of the tattoo industry/world since I was a child due to having a family member in the trade and taking a profound interest in the art. Being an artist myself, albeit graphic design, I surrounded myself by some insanely cool, knowledgeable, and talented artists that are extremely open to answering any and all questions. Let me explain why I feel some of the opinions or advice here is misplaced. 1. Draw the tattoo on yourself - That statement right there is strictly an opinion, and I'll be completely honest I believe it's stupid. For the simple reason you KNOW what you're getting into with a tattoo, you know you're permanently marking your body. It's a simple decision of, "Can I live with a permanent marking or not?" I don't feel it's necessary to draw your tattoo on yourself for months on end to see if you can live with it. The burden of deciding to mark your body is actually rather small, the largest burden is the design you come up with and deciding if you can live with it for years to come. Now permanency in today's world is somewhat relevant as you can decide to pay through the nose and have it removed via laser treatment, just be prepared for that decision. But if at any point the thought crosses your mind during the planning process, "Well I can always get it removed later," I think you've just answered your question whether or not you can live with a permanent marking. 2. Tattoo artists won't turn down tattoo's - This is actually 100% false in terms of hand tattoo's. Reputable, talented artists will turn away hand and neck tattoo's on the regular. There are two main reasons, a moral compass and reducing of their own stress. The moral compass is an attempt to make you evaluate what you are about to embark on with these types of tattoos, no matter how big or small on the hands are still not well perceived (unfortunately) in today's society/workplace. The reducing of stress is simply because they don't want to deal with the bullshit when you come screaming back in a year you're having a hard time finding a job. 3. Tattoo's that mean something are better than a piece that is just cool - I'm going to explain this from the perspective of someone that judge's tattoo competitions and shows. As it was told to me by a judge I spoke to one on one after they had judged a show. They don't give a rats ass what your tattoo means, why you got it, where it's placed, and how you came to decide this was a permanent marking you wanted forever. They're judging overall aesthetics, technique, etc. It's been said many times here, a bad tattoo that means something or didn't cost a lot, will not suddenly become a good tattoo because you explain its' meaning to me or tell me you got a killer deal. A bad tattoo is still a bad tattoo. At face value all tattoos do have a meaning, I have a zombie Clint Eastwood on my right thigh and Vader holding a hologram Yoda on the other, why did I get them, I like zombies, I like Eastwood and Star Wars, and the pieces were badass. So at face value, the mean something to me because I "liked the art" however, this isn't the meaning most people speak of. Most people are seeking a pensive deep philosophized meaning, you have one chance to impress most people with your tattoo's, and that's at first sight. Your brain makes decisions a full SEVEN SECONDS before your conscious even realize its' been done. Simply put, we can hate or like something before we even actually know we do. Archangelx
While I agree with most of what you said, I'm going to respectfully disagree with "It wasn't until I was a complete ass to everyone that you guys actually stopped for a second," to get our attention. You may cause people to pay attention, but they're going to be unwilling to trust what you have to say if they think you're a jerk. Just saying...and I'm going to stop there. On topic though, human augmentation and trashumanism fascinates me and having a tattoo such the following would be amazing *_* And then later replace it when actual augmentation of that scale becomes a reality :D

Artillery
Augmentation tattoos are awesome. A friend of mine has one on the inside of his bicep, but it's a couple of gears turning. Still looks good though. I've been thinking more on the sugar skull idea, and I think I've came up with a decent decision, but subject to change. I was thinking about getting the Mandalorian skull as a sugar skull. I've already seen a Vader and storm trooper one.
Azvareth
Augmentation/ripped-skin tattoos to me are the tattoo equivalent of Affliction shirts. The Mandalorian sugar skull idea sounds sweet though. Do it, post pics.
constrictor
I kind of eventually want to get a sugar/rose skull ( is there a difference?). I also decided what my first text tattoo is going to be. Since I'm religious this kind of means alot to me.Id get: For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor demons, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38, 39 NASB) Hopefully either on my left/right peck or depending on sizing on the inside of my left or right bicep. muziclab

Be careful with that much text, I'm assuming (and I could be wrong) you don't have pecs the size of the Hulk so the text will have to be to a degree small. Make sure you research your artist to make sure they do clean, fine work when it comes to text. The last thing you want is an artist going too deep causing blowouts in the ink and the link blurring out under the skin and making it look like crap. Also, just so you're aware I would do some research into the sugar skulls, I have one myself, and I got it because I wanted one, however because of my lack of umm.. hispanic/latin background (I'm more vanilla than the cream in an oreo) it can be seen as culturally insensitive. People that get uptight about that, "you're not chinese so don't get kanji" are just jackasses, but it does help to know your shit if it's a cultural symbol. constrictor
Yeah, hence I'm more at the "Oh those are super cool, maybe one day long in the future I'll get one." appreciation stage. Hahaha. Yeah, good things to point out. It certainly wouldn't be something I will be getting for awhile anyways. Especially since my guess would be with that much text it'll be a button of money to get done anyways. muziclab
Tim
I know EXACTLY the tattoo I want to get now. It'll be a strip of film, with Ondrash's tattoo style, black/white(grey) leaking out, then transgressing into multiple colours, like a rainbow leaking out of the film strip. Just gotta figure out where I'd get it done on my body (and an artist besides Ondrash who can do it), my big problem is my skin isnt a solid color, it's splotchy red with freckles down my arms. 1 Popoto.~<
constrictor
Shouldn't really matter, the contrast of the black/color on the white of your skin (assuming you are white because freckles) should distract the viewer's eyes from any freckles mixing with it. muziclab

Nom
That doesn't mean they're any good. I know of two within a few minute's drive from my school but I would never go to them. I've seen locals with poorly done tattoos that probably came from those places (small town). Then again I've also seen a few fantastic ones, so just do your research first.
