Scroll of Living

Featured Replies

So recently I purchased the scroll of living.

Anyhow, it was working on the first day - and I noticed that I was getting seeds from dead herbs/patches

I was wondering if it there was any way it stopped working.

I went on 6 farming runs today and it didn't activate once.

If the effect does work - is there a message alerting you of what happened?

where do you get it from?

It's a Dungeoneering reward, costs 10k points.

OP, I think it's just bad luck - once you activate the Scroll, it doesn't ever stop working. It's a permanent effect.

The Scroll of Life has a 10% chance of receiving your seed back, 6 herb runs is a very small scale test, and it doesn't surprise me that you didn't see any benefits.

AFAIK there is no in game message when it has recovered a seed back for you.

What does afaik stand for? >_>

It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.

as far as I know.

If you find an acronym you don't know, just type it in Google, and usually the first link tells you the meaning :P

I didn't used to know what iirc meant, but I did that for it.

Anyways, it's just luck. I got many runs in a row without getting seeds back, but then you get those runs where you get 2-3 seeds back.

That's what I had thought but I was getting a little worried.

Btw, 6 runs is actually a lot at 5 herbs + 4 flowers

That's a total of 54 trials and with a 10% percent chance of success - less then 0.33% chance of that happening.

Of course the actual chance is lower (since my plant's don't all survive - but even so, I should be seeing some seeds coming back)

Does anybody know if you buy that scroll and the scroll of cleansing - do they cancel each other out?

6 runs is not a lot to test it on.

Sure you harvested 54 patches.

But its 10% chance per patch.

That means harvest 1 patch you have 10% chance it'll work

Harvest 2 patches you have a 10% chance it'll work, 5% chance it'll work on both.

Sure for 54 patches the average would suggest you'd get the effect 5 times, but that doesn't guarantee it.

For a test to have any real value on something that supposed to work 10% of time or 1 in 10 you need at least 1,000 pieces of data and even then its not exactly a strong study group.

Have you ever taken any math classes?

Why do you insist on coming into H&A threads just to give wrong input.

Harvesting 2 patches with a 10% chance that it'll work = 1% chance that you get a seed back from both (1%)

Honestly, if you have a binomial distribution and your p=10%, a n value of 54 is more then enough to run a confidence interval and provide a good estimate of the actual p value.

I'm just going to chalk it up to bad luck but I would appreciate it if you stopped posted anything related to numbers in your future posts because they're just wrong half the time and the other half of the time - they just don't make any sense.

capt%20kevin.png

My math is fine; when I'm awake enough to follow it through properly.

I just went down the 2 outcome route rather than the 100 outcome route; which was incorrect way to go, but meh people make mistakes and I was barely up when I wrote it.

But anyway the number crunching is meaningless, the point remains consistent that 54 patches is not a big enough sample to draw conclusions on and aside from that you've had your answer; so its pointless to get into a flame war.

The day I got scroll I did 2 6 patch fruit tree runs and got 10 seeds.

For the next 30 or so runs I got nada.

you've done this before and this isn't the first time (unless you're always sleepy when you're on tip.it)

your claim of 5% correlates to nothing at all (other then the fact it's half of 5)

In a 2 herb trial:

P(0 herbs back) = 0.9 x 0.9 = 0.81

P(1 herb back) = 2 x 0.9 x 0.1 = 0.18

P(2 herb back) = 0.1 x 0.1 = 0.01

Where does 5% ever show up?

My point anyhow, is that 54 is MORE THEN ENOUGH of a sample size to draw an adequate conclusion about the distribution of the population especially if the claim is that p = 10%

My only problem is that you post in multiple threads - and a majority of the time it's just downright nonsense.

If you never studied statistics, if you never took a math class, or if you don't have enough common sense - don't bother in giving other people mathematical calculations.

Alas 10 herb runs and nothing returning = 0.9^10 = 0.34867... = 35% chance

That doesn't look so bad now does it?

Assuming by 10 herb runs he meant 10 runs at 5 patches, then it would be 0.9^50=or 0.515% of not getting any back.

Also, scroll of life can activate on herb patches that have died, giving back a random seed.

It's 10% per patch, or 50 patches, therefore 1-(9/10)^50, which is 99.4% of getting one back by that time, or 0.6% of not.

K, thanks.

I have one and I often experience the same seemingly impossible bad luck. In retrospect it was barely worth it and I doubt I've even made a mil back yet. (ranarrs, sometimes snaps from 69-72 farming)

3 farming levels, and you're complaining about not getting 1m in seeds back?

Low farming levels at that.

The scroll of life is worth every token you spend on it...especially considering how few tokens that actually is.

Or if you ever farm torstols. I've made over 1m a run with torstols.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

I can't agree that its worth "every token you spend on it". I mentioned herb runs from 69-72 because they give a very low amount of experience per run and i was able to do a multitude of herbs runs in the 6+ months of farming since I obtained the scroll. I set 1mil as a realistic number because the amount made from these herb runs was easily 30mil. Sorry my farming level isn't up to your golden standard of 85 farming which probably less than 40k or 30k people even have.. my farming rank is my third highest next to 96 range and 17.6mil fletching exp (which would lead one to believe its not exactly the most popular skill). the base usefulness of the scroll shouldn't be based on one or two herbs, as obviously if people are farming torsols I don't doubt the fact that they could easily be pulling an extra 500k easy per run with the scroll. From personal experience I just think before 85, (or if there is a more expensive seed before then), you're not going to wake up every day thanking god for taking the time to get the scroll.

Staking: 4+ mil
Current Status: Training defense

just because your luck sucks, doesn't make the scroll not worth getting.

Also, you're acting like it's one of those rewards you get, and think every run "HOLY [bleep] THIS THING IS EPIC!!?@!@!@!?@!@"

No...

It's not an instant gratification reward. It's not going to suddenly make farming the greatest money ever.

It doesn't matter what level your farming is, it's worth spending the tokens on it. Period.

Anyway, as Izen said, it's really something that will take time. Also, it's always worth getting, as it can only help. While it's true torstols use it most effectively, that's it. They use it the MOST effectively. Every seed benefits from it.

Also worth remembering that it does work on trees. So if you are not 85 farming or -whatever farming level for snaps-, you can get that level for a cheaper price by using the scroll of life.

I have gained 1 ugune seed from the scroll. That alone is worth a few k tokens cause I normally take around 100 catches to get a seed.

I have also gained over a hundred torstol seeds from the scroll. That is worth over 30m.
