Cmon101
Ok! Lately I've been getting sort of bored with RS and I was like hmmmm! Then I thought well I've heard alot about World of Warcraft! So I did what I did before I became a RS member! I researched! I found out all Icould about the game so that I could become engaged quickly and not waste money! As I was researching I discovered that Runescae and World of Warcraft have almost exactly the same basis Ie: What you can make, do, proffesiones and some other things that were more obvious than you could ever imagine! So, I was wondering?! Did one copy the other! If so whom duped whom? Does anyone know who copied whom?! Or am I just a conspiracy loving red-neck?! dwarfie76
Did one copy the other! No. The idea has been around since the paper and pencil days of D&D.

Cmon101
Well I understand that the basic concept should be the same, but there are other things that are so similar! But, I guess I'm a noob at most RPG's so yur probably right!
Adroit
I don't really think it's possible to compare Jagex and Blizzard, sure they have the same base, but then again... all medival games pretty much do. In my opinion, WoW just has more time and effort put into it, which is the only reason it's so huge. And yeah, im not sure if you're a conspiracy searchin' redneck  -Adroit\\ RuneScape Retired since '06, sn= Superstud07

Mastersigmaker
I'm a level 46 Tauren Shaman on WoW and I seriously enjoy it way more than RS, it may be a little expensive($30 for 2 months-$39.99 for the game) but I would reccomend it. 8) ~MsM~ Edit: Item-wise it is ABSOLUTLEY different, some trinkets that you get at higher lvls are carrot on a stick for example, almost 99% of the items are nothing like Runescape. And the developers have a REAL sense of humor  you should never attempt to insert a floppy disk in a 56X CD-ROM drive, as floppy disk shrapnel hurts
Cmon101
At this point were getting way off topic! But! I was thinking about a Night Elf Hunter (Master range/Secondary Bestiary) Sound good? I've never even played! LOl! I've just about read every guide to read in the first 20 pages of google when you search for a guide!
DaCoolster
It's pretty annoying the way you have to BUY the game, and you can't even play it without buying the gamecard which allows you to play the game. I've got it, played it, tis buggy. On the upper hand, there's a lot of better features suchas creature incorporation, races and the ability to change invisible for stealth mode [Would be FIT to have in the RS Wildy]. Also it has a better community base and seems to intertwine players a lot better than RS. Yet still, I'm an RS'er for life. Stickin' to my British ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã5 a month, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! 8)
Purdy_Angel
Both have good points and bad - lag being an issue both have trouble with. Bots aren't allowed on WoW as it gives an unfair advantage - you can hotkey spells and action but if you are caught using bots then you can lose your account. Bubsa
Runescape is a far more "Plug n play" kind of game, whereas Wow requires "Installation" (I'm using metaphors, people!). Just expect that of the proffessions and items the two games share, WoW's going to be more immersive. So if you like the idea of the whole mistique of MMORPG games, their 'realism' in a sense and a feeling of proper role playing I'd go with WoW. If you want some quick, hack n slash fun (Which many people do) then I'd just stick to Runescape. You'll probably get bored with it earlier, but then you probably would have saved over $100 :P This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. sanday79
I really think there is no comparison between RS and any of the major MMO's out there, maybe with the exception of the original Everquest, which was basically the same treadmilling action of RS, but bigger and with fancy graphics. WoW has far surpassed anything RS can accomplish, but the cost scares me even though I have a job that pays well. Then there's the fact that my computer is as effecient as a hunk of metal with wires running through it. Oh, wait... Yeah, I'd definitely need a new rig to run WoW or EQ II or Guild Wars or any of the other fancy MMORPG's out there.
dwarfie76
I believe in WoW, unlike runescape, you have to choose a subset of professions to take up - So you can do say cooking and fishing, or mining and smithing, but not cooking, fishing, mining and smithing.
The_Sith
Yup - you can have only two primary professions (Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Herbalism, Leatherworking, Mining, Skinning, and Tailoring). You can have all the secondary professions (First Aid, Fishing, Cooking). I'd say most (but someone will most likely contest this) MMORPGs these days have a monthly fee. People complain about it but that is the reality. Guild Wars is one of the more popular MMORPGs with no monthly fees but it is based around PVP only, while others offer more professions, skills, armor, etc. (Again, someone will contest this - I'm just providing my input :)) If you haven't guessed it by now, I play WoW (~5.27GB filesize actually). I don't think there is a comparison at all. But I do think RuneScape is a great game for what you pay - nothing, or five dollars a month. I could spend all day analyzing WoW as I love the game - I may not be the most knowledgable about it but I love talking about it. Is it worth it? In my opinion, yes. Some may wince at the 15USD monthly playing fee but I look at it like this: I left RuneScape for WoW. I cancelled my RuneScape membership (5USD/month). So really, WoW is costing me 10USD/month. I won't drag this thread off-topic anymore. I do suggest all those interested visit the World of Warcraft website and look at the Beginners and Game Guide - very informative.
chen_tha_man
I play CS:Source and Ragnarok Online, and IMO, they both are better than runescape.
stealthman8
i dont think theres really much competition between WoW and RS because WoW was a game of the year nominee and in WoW has many races like : human, dwarf, knome, night elf, orc, tauren, trolls, and undead. Amazing!!!!! graphics and its also kinda funny 75/80 Hitpoints | 81/85 Strength | 1/1 Pray | 1/1 Defense [Make Me Rich!] | [Brutal Ownage]
Dudeisadude9
Theirs a trial version for all you people intrested, 10 day trial, and best part is you dont have to buy the game, when you sign up for the 10 day trial at fileplanet.com, You gotta download a 2.7 gig file (LOL took me about 2 hours), So you dont have to buy the game, you can download it, after the 10 day trial, you can upgrade to "normal" status by paying montly after then, Gotta have a credit card to sign up (which i hate, because I go to the store and buy one of those card things...) Quit runescape...

McOwned
wow has been around a lot longer, although back then it wasnt internet based and was called jus warcraft p.s. wow is sooooooo much beta thn runescape WOW wasn't around longer than runescape, even though warcraft was, and Warcraft is a different game than WOW is, WOW is a MMORPG, Warcraft isnt. Even though their theme is the same. I personally hate WOW because "To some diablo fans" blizzard ditched Starcraft and Diablo and went to warcraft land. Also, my computer is as useful as a brick and cant run anything better than this. Retired from runescape(Banned for bug abusing)
Codeman15
In order to play WoW you must: -Have a powerful PC -Spend $40 on the CD -Spend $140 to play for one year -Have lots of disc space for the game -Have a powerful connection In order to play RS you must: -Have a browser You cannot compare the two. WoW is a high tech high cost monster of a game. Amazing graphics and endless possibilites make it the most successful MMO to date. RuneScape is just a java based game. And a damn good one at that. It is the number one java based game searched on google every day. Both games have revolutionized their genres. They just aren't comparable.
