hiei333
Ok this post is about runescape ads. If you ever notice them (im sure many guys have) they have pictures of girls' "body parts". Ive gotten in trouble because if this cause my mom or dad would see it and ask if this site is apropriate. What can i tell them?!?!? I just say its an ad that doesnt mean anything. My question is is why do they have those ads? Cant they get better ones?!?!?
Phil
Tell your parents that you would see worse (or better) if you went to the beach. Or you can always report them to Jagex and see if they remove them. edit - changed the thread title to something more relevant.

Unitedite
http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=379116&start=0 You could use something like AdBlock to ... well.. block the ads :) In a little hilltop village they gambled for my clothesI bargained for salvation and they gave me a lethal doseI offered up my innocence, I got repaid with scorn"Come in'', she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"
ValaraZ
I just started thinking that ads in jagex could be those that show something searched from the internet. Here's what i mean: i type in google say, sponge-bob screensaver and various other computer terms and the service provider then shows me ads in rs that are related to computer stuff. so, if you get in trouble you can say that someone has been searching the internet for that kind of material and that is why the ads show like that. remember to emphasize that it wasn't you (if it really wasn't). most likely it was your dad then. Norton internet security can block the ads too btw. or if you are using mozilla try add-block. Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant: "If I live, I will kill you, If I Die, you are forgiven." Such is the Rule of Honor. t0nkin
yeah, the problem is jagex sell those spaces for money so they can keep running the site and profting..
7up407
I'm not quite sure why jagex would have those adds. The only thing i can think of is maybe some money involved, some sites get paid on how much adds are on it from companies sites. Like others said just tell jagex and see what they do, real life is worse than that unfortunately. :?

What search engine do you use? It could be possible that you have some spyware installed that tracks your browsing habits and puts their own ads over the Jagex ones... Where the bloody hell are you? Wydoncha
Ive never seen those ads, and Ive just asked my 12 yr old niece whom is on F2P daily; and she never has seen them either. Download "Spybot Search & Destroy", and scan your computer with it. I think your browser might've been hijacked by adware. If that doesn't help try posting the problem on tech forum; you could get a programme called "hijackthis" from merijn.org and scan&save a log of your registry. The techs on the forum might be able to help you. Try using Firefox for browsing from now on, it's much less vulnerable :)

jaklumen
ur parents are strict, and sound like jerks tell them goto some porn site, then talk to ya Speaking as a parent, I think it's perfectly fine to monitor Internet use. Don't need my daughter looking at bikini [girls] or the like in the not-to-far-off future, thanks. I like Adblock a lot. However, I do use the Runescape client because I like to have sound, so that reminds me that I need to look for something IE uses.
sheepdean
you could get membership... Atonisk
Ive never seen those ads, and Ive just asked my 12 yr old niece whom is on F2P daily; and she never has seen them either. They're illicit-looking banner ads for dating services. I have no clue how anybody would miss them although I know they also use more tasteful dating service ads but all they really advertise is dating services on that world select page (formerly also on the hs, but jagex removed ads from that page. Didn't make much sense to have ads there in the first place since members and free use the same page.).

And these dating sites have "girls' "body parts"." in them? But there is an option to report bad ads isnt there? when clicking the questionmarks next to them? If they really are that bad, and they are on Jagex' adserver and not in adware... then the comment about the parents is very much out of order! :x
pheonix
I see them all the time and i dont see what the problem is shouldnt your dad like them? after all all guys like seeing nice looking girls and their "body parts" right?
Junkieman
I have seen some questionable ads on the runescape site, I dont think jagex realise a large proportion of their userbase are under the age of 18. They should try getting ad deals from companies aiming products at younger users.

imhomer
OK this suggestion is a bit technical but if you're really having a problem try this: I have an old and a new computer at home and I play RS on them fairley regularly. Only one gets ads and popups though the same anti-virus/spyware software is installed. Try downgrading your internet browser version. This will create broken pictures that won't diplay. You could also try using alternative browsers like Netscape or Mozilla Firefox. Because these browsers only are about 15% of the browser market, very few ads are designed to work on them. :D Another bonus of these browsers is very few viruses and spywares can get through these either. The new virus which Microsoft just released a patch for could be stopped by a simple warning on Mozilla Firefox. Just computer speak, I'm not a nerd

Stallion4589
all i can say is... firefox adblock. u can right click images and block all images coming from that source (for example, the advertising firm's website). and after u visit most of your most visited websites, u will generally surf the web ad-free.
