i just gained enough tokens to buy the first chaotic, i always slayer and wanna speed up killing wfs and some crush-weakness slayer creature , which i should buy i won't train dung for a while

Rapier. There aren't that many tasks where the monster is weak to crush and resistant to everything else.

Rapier is the best choice for most slayer and pvm situations, not many monsters other than waterfiends are weak enough to crush to be worth using maul over rapier so yeah I'd say go with rapier

CM only beats CR on two tasks really - Waterfiends (good charm/bad exp) and Wyverns (decent charm/decent exp)

And you can only really use CM if you're closed to being maxed

Rapier works well at TDS and WFS. A friend who has done extensive DPS research has been saying that CR > CM at WFS if on task, ovl, turm, max str gear. I would take that with a grain of salt but it shows that even using a rapier at WFS isn't a horrible substitute.

 

Edit: That's assuming WFS have a 200 crush def roll.

Yes, the longsword is better for wyverns (more efficient at all but very high incomes).

Did you read my post? I said MOST, and rapier has more dps at bandos and tds than maul, maul is just easier to use if you're new at tds cos it means less switches and its slower

It is but the topic was asking whether CR or CM.

CLS is better for wyverns and for bandos (afaik - never actually done but there are huge research projects on this) but that's about the only time its mentioned

CM is better at Bandos when tanking because you can SS flash very easily with it.

The optimal set up would be cmaul with cr/ddef for minions. If soloing, it could possibly be better to use a cls with ddef on graar.

The guy said he wanted to mainly do slayer. Hence a discussion of which chaotic is better for bandos seems slightly pointless. At any rate, chaotic rapier preforms decently enough at Bandos that unless you want a chaotic explicitly FOR Bandos, there's no reason not to get the rapier. (Even at Bandos there's debate for choosing one chaotic because rapier is better for minions.)

 

Anyways. From this thread, I see two tasks where rapier is not the best option. Rapier doesn't perform badly enough at those to warrant a different chaotic then the rapier,* as best as I can tell. He could always block wyverns and just try out rapier on WFS.

 

*Assuming access to only one chaotic.

Personally I got the rapier first and the maul second, I use the maul for pking and waterfiends only, rapier is more all purpose. Maul destroys for pking if you're into that though, and its amazing at wfs aswell. Overall rapier is better though... Depends what you think you're going to be doing.
