Possible Graphics For A Runescape 3?

I believe that people are forgetting what has provided Jagex with so much success. The ability to play Runescape on older machines (thanks to low system requirements), the ease of access and the low member fees are the reason why the game is so popular. If Jagex tried to emulate the graphics in games like WoW, or Guild Wars, they'd be losing a huge portion of their clientelle.

.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Well It could be possible... Way later on, when we have better computers at low cost. Those graphics are better than X-Box 360 and the specs on that are better than most computers out today.

Xbox better than most computers today ? That made me laugh. Computers are always updated like every week with a new graphics card better than the last week, to my knowledge you cant buy xbox graphics cards, and an xbox is practically like an computer anyway.

You sir are correct. No one is currently able to purchase a Graphics Card like an Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 PWNS my current computer. 360 has not one, not two, but THREE 3.0Ghz processors, and some crazy new "500MHz ATI post-X800 adaptor" graphics card which is "next-gen".

So it looks as if we won't be able to render such amazing graphics as the 360 can currently, but just think about 50 years ago there were no "Micro computers" (the thing you're using now) and they still operated on Punch Cards.

Also for the record Java compiles it's visual images from other files meaning you've already made the image and Java just puts it together with the rest of the pictures that you're using. So Java could COMPILE them but not all COMPUTERS could render them properly.

To see the effect of what would happen if we used our current computers with supped up graphics such as the picture of discussion go to your local computer recycling center, pick up either a DOS 7.0 run machine or a Windows 3.1 run machine and try to play Halo for the PC on it.

Edit: Here is where I got my Xbox 360 spec info.

It really isn't hard to make graphics such as these - especially with a large team of graphics artists that JageX has.

It certainly is possible to render it in Java, unlike what some of you are saying - I did similar things myself.

However, there is a huge difference between rendering one image, that can take however long it wants, and 30 images a second, which only allows so much detail.

that graphics wouldnt be possible in a 3d game let alone something internet based.

Runescape is in three dimensions, the world we live in is in three dimensions, World of Warcraft and Guild Wars are in three dimensions. Have you not seen the pictures for "The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" for the Xbox 360? They are very close to that.

Runescape is a game written in Java and is BROWSER based. It is on the internet and technically it is internet based as Yahtzee is dice based. World of Warcraft and Guild Wars are internet based games as well.

Not trying to be a smart-aleck, just trying to keep the technology jargon in the upper regions.

but the type of image is different, dont know the exact name but all games have them, there made to look like in game shots but there just stills to get a game flowing with constant images like that would take [cabbage] loads of power.

Well, I must admit it does indeed look nice with those graphics for a game, but wouldn decrease the amount of players that could play, as a result of higher computer specs needed.. But I read this on JAGeX corporate site;

Our ambition for 2005 is to exceed 400,000 subscribers for RuneScape, to take RuneScape into other non-english language markets and to begin the development of a completely new game.

The last sentence made me wonder, have they started a RS3, or a completely different game.. or have they started anything at all? ;)

No. They make the graphics alike to Guild Wars / WoW and we'll have to pay triple or maybe more for the game. It's fine how it is now, I don't know why you guys want a brand new one. Want a game with graphics like that? Pay up and buy Guild Wars.

yea if they did make the graphics guildwars/WoW like we wont have to pay much more, look how much WoW players pay a month its gone down to ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã6
