fatguy1
I'm interested in reading old posts and polls regarding RuneScape and I know Rune Tips was the first help website. But when were the forums added? Was there ever a time when the forum software was changed and all old posts were lost? -fatguy1 (I'm not actually fat LOL!) stevepole
The forums have been around forever, before forum.tip.it it was Scapeboard which is when I became a user in 2003 (under a different SCN). The exact date of the forums beginning I do not know but I would assume 2001.
fatguy1
So are all the old 2004-2005 posts freely accessible?
stevepole
They do get deleted over time so unfortunately you aren't going to find many post dating back to then. If you want to look back at the forums, you can try http://waybackmachine.org/.
Wessan
I remember when Tip.It used to be more than just a Runescape fan site. When you when to it, a page came up for a person to choose RS or a couple other games. Someone correct me if I am wrong about that, but I am fairly certain. Then again, I was 12 when I started using the site. I never registered for the forums here until 2009, but I have been using this site for much longer. I used to use the Runevillage forums (haha, laugh at myself now).
Sly_Wizard
I'm pretty sure there was tip.it in 2003. Iirc, there was a forum switch over or something like that and everyone had to re-register, though my memory is a bit sketchy. Pretty much that's why you see the earliest join dates as in 2004. obfuscator
Scapeboard was around I believe from 2000 to 2004, at which point we switched to phpbb2 and became TIF. in 2008 we lost a few months worth of posts but everything has been fine since then. Web archives are the only way to see scapeboard stuff now, this board still has topics back from 04 though. @wessan, yes, tip.it has a lord of the rings online section as well which is no longer maintained. Huzzah
I think 2004 for these forums sounds about right. I still remember when Andrew himself would post on the scape boards.

obfuscator
The boards were originally created in early april 04, not sure when they actually went live to public though. The Observer
These forums were created in 2004 (phpBB) and probably went live in summer 2004 judging by the sudden increase in non-staff registrations. I'm not old school enough to remember before these boards unfortunately, but you can still find those posts by searching by post date. Like obfuscator already mentioned, there was a rollback that took away a few months posts in 2008. That would explain the sudden vacancy in posts during a period of time. n64jive
I was here for scapeboard, under a different user name (immortal ell). When scapeboard was hacked, I decided to change to my rsname. I have been here ever since (although I joined some other fansites while tip.it was down)...Scapeboard was hacked around the same time RS2 was released.... Zargo_VI
Scapeboard started in 2002, 25 January if my stats don't lie and ran till May 2004 but there was an other forum even before Scapeboard if i recall correctly. Here's a final stat pic from said forum for those interested. Many wonderful memories from that place :) If you have a goal, go for it :D Work hard, be proud and be yourself ;)
pal2002
I'm not so sure about 2001, but scapeboard was definitel around already early 2002 when I started. It was literally the ONLY RS forum out there - and it was quite epic. Here's an archuve taken by the Wayback Machine in 2002.http://web.archive.org/web/20021201094344/http://www.scapeboard.com/2/ A little sad note, is that the users online in 2002 compared to 2011 is actually not that far off - even though the playerbase is much smaller then. Where are the people now? Well those cheating forums that have 5k+ ppl online all the time .... I am glad though that tip.it lasted this long - this was one of the first websites I visited on my 33.6K dial-up modem, and I hope TIF/tip.it last another 10 years! I was posting during the early days of scapeboard - I was very good friends with on of the mods or admins ( ladyL?????? ) Can't remember the name and told me to register when tipit first opened. Sadly - I am more of a reader now rather than a poster. I doubt anyone would remember me here or in game from the old days :(

FooK-A-Ji
I'm interested in reading old posts and polls regarding RuneScape and I know Rune Tips was the first help website. But when were the forums added? Was there ever a time when the forum software was changed and all old posts were lost? -fatguy1 (I'm not actually fat LOL!) Tip.it wasn't originally a Runescape fansite. It supported games like Asherons Call and other rpg's.Than they had a subforum for Runescape as well.Tip.it became most popular when Bluerose13x posted on the old official forums, that to contact her for rune smithing, you had to PM her on tip.it. That created a massive influx of users and everybody with general knowledge of the old game came to know of tip.it because of the Steel Corpz or whatever the name of the clan was who operated on the website. Anyway it was decided that tip.it would focus mainly on Runescape as the websites popularity grew. The expenses also grew, so the leadership sought elsewhere and made Scapeboard.Scapeboard was accessible simply by writing scapeboard.com as far as I recall. Many were dissatisfied with the new look etc. A few years later there was a breach of security and the forums were hacked. pages upon pages of pornography was posted everywhere and accounts were compromised etc. I was inactive on the RS scene due to IRL issues at the time, and had somebody sign up this username for me, so it wouldn't be stolen. So the exact details about the board switch to this forum aren't that clear to me as they might be to others. But in short, Runescape tips forum has had 2 board switches and many tweaks/alterations. I would say that 99% of old posts are lost due to board switches. Note also that Tip.it is older than tip.it/runescape. And also that there may be slight errors in my recollection since I am writing it all out from memory right now, and I furiously smoked trees in the first half of the new millenium lol... DarkDude
Something interesting this topic has made me realise is that the RS site is unavailable on the Waybackmachine. Which is something which has to be purposefully done by Jagex, I wonder why they've chosen to do that?
