95 Prayer

Unknown_Warrior

Recommended Posts

Is it in my best interest to sell some of my stuff to fund 95 Prayer? What is best to train Prayer with?

If so, what's generally the first to go?

If not, what money making method is interesting to look into? After having returned after 5 months it seems many things dropped in price.

What exactly do you have to sell? And would even selling it get you enough to afford 95? Things that generally go first are bandos/DFS/godswords etc. Things that are only useful for a handful of situations(With bandos being a luxury you really shouldn't have to keep until after you have 95 prayer, 92+ herblore and 96 summoning). If you have a pair of claws and a fury, you could sell those too if you really wanted 95. But i personally didn't since i use them so much.

Though looking at your stats, you seem to be more range based. So i wouldn't be sure exactly the kind of bank you would have to sell.

I'm not sure if you know you listed fury twice.

Things on that list to sell in rough order would be:

Gnome Scarf

All the trimmed/gilded armour sets.

Bandos Godsword

Wizard Boots

Infinity except for the boots

God ranger sets

The Verac/Torags pieces you don't need (likely everything apart from verac skirt/helm and torag plate, though guthan plate is cheaper and same stats I believe)

Karils Coif/bow

Ahrims hood/staff

Coconuts

Pineapples

Birds Nests

Pure essence

Blood Runes

Death Runes

Nature Runes

Full Armadyl

Full Bandos

If you're going to sell the runes and essence, I'd recommend you keep a couple thousand in case you decide to use them.

Edit: Response to LJ's list:

Keep around 28 glories.

If you range slay regularly then you may want to keep armadyl legs too as you won't be using void with the full slayer helm.

Don't ever sell Bandos unless you NEED to sell it. You don't need to, so don't. Same goes for Armadyl. Don't know why anyone would advise you otherwise when clearly you have enough other stuff to sell.

What's the point of the glories unless abyss crafting? Void range is superior to full slayer helm.

I didn't realise range was superior to slayer helm, discount that then. I find glories to be a useful teleport even when not using abyssal runecrafting.

I'm training prayer right now and is what I'm doing is, I bought my bones, marrentill & house teles obviously. I have a tinderbox & house teles in my inventory at all times. Build your gilded altar room right next to the portal and build a room with a glory right next to that, so you can teleport to edgeville. Also, use a war tortoise so you get more bones done per trip. Switch your left click option to take BoB and take them when you have like four bones left so you don't have to stop, it just continues praying if you do that. Each trip restock on marrentill.

Oh & i have no idea why, but the first few runs I did I would come back and my burners were still lit, but since the first few runs (where it happened like every single time) it hasn't happened once.

I just wokeup and I'm rarely up this early, so if any of that is confusing and if I used way too many commas, sorry. xD

Void is only superior to the slayer helm on 0-def tasks so Arma skirt has some use, not to mention any bosshunting you might want to do.

I'd recommend selling: Wizard boots, infinity except boots, Bandos godsword, teacher wand, Verac's brassard and flail, 10k bloods, 50k pure essence, all bird nests (that's like 6m right there), Karil's coif and crossbow (if you are 95+ firemaking, handcannons are under 50k!), Torag's except plate, Ahrim's hood and staff, gnome scarf, about 50 glories, one berserker ring and the gilded/trimmed/god armours. That should be a few million gp.

If that doesn't get you enough cash the order would be something like Armadyl/Bandos legs > Armadyl/Bandos top > ranger boots. I'm not sure if you range or melee more so you should sell based on that.

Here I thought Ranger boots would be the least worth keeping on my list, yet everyone's telling me to sell my Armadyl/Bandos before it.

Rather confusing to me, actually.

Ranger boots are +5 ranged attack and +1 magic defence over the next best thing (snakesking). Armadyl chestplate/chainskirt have +3 ranged attack, +5 magic defence, +1 prayer over their counterparts. If you solo Kree'arra a lot they are about equally valuable but for slayer you definitely want ranger's. Of course ranger's are more expensive as well, not sure on the gp/range att.

You do realise you can buy the items back in a week or two... right? You seem to think that if you sell bandos it's gone forever O.o

IMO i'd sell everything that i wouldn't lose money on (rising items, soon to crash items) and then get the prayer. With the remaining money, buy whatever is useful to you back in the order that you need them. If you're not going to do the prayer all at once (There really is no reason not to, with ashes or dbones it's only a week or two of casual play, or a few days no lifing) then obviously keep items for whatever you will do inbetween training prayer.

Also, are Dragon Bones the way to go?

They have been historically low lately so they are better than usual, but if you are big on saving money while you get to 95, Big Bones still have a much better cost ratio.

That being said, if I had the money to afford using Dragon Bones, I would.

Given that the OP has 90 summoning - he can only get war torts.

So the exp per hour he can achieve is even less then the maxed out "~72k xp per hour"

Big bones is an EXTREMELY bad idea.

Dragon bones are ~12.5 gp/xp and Frost bones are ~19 gp/xp"

You should always be choosing between one of these two.

Note that dragon bones/frost bones GENERALLY sell for less then GE median so you'll actually end up paying a little less then you would.

Whereas Big Bones are only 6.25 gp/xp. I said if the OP is "big on saving money", big bones are an option considering they are half the cost of Dragon bones.

If the OP is looking to save money rather achieve the goal in the quickest time, then he should consider all options.

People have been tainted by the "efficiency" methods in RS. Yes, they are good, and yes, they do work, but if you have other goals in mind for what you wish to achieve, then get it done how you want to do it.

If you want to save money - you would actually do it via dragon bones.

Think about it this way - it takes ~4.8 hours of offering big bones in order to equal one hour of offering dbones

That would mean at any income >1mil an hour - you would be better off offering dbones.

(Realistically - you're going to be spending more then 4.8 hours of big bone offering to equal 1 hour of dbone offering)

Now for the "fun aspect", I don't see how anything can be less fun then

-teleport to house

-open door

-light marrentil

-offer bones

I mean if you have any sort of goals - the idea should be to complete them as soon as possible.

If you're spending all day offering bones, you're never going to get to do any of that stuff you want to with 95 prayer anyhow.

Never do big bones. You'll will want to kill yourself.

I did infernal ashes for 52 - 95. It was... Bearable. But the only reason was because i was DGing for a rapier on the side. I would suggest d bones.

I suggest Dagannoth bones at least, could try using ourg bones too. Dragon bones are too slow. Try using Frosts if possible.

Ourg bones are cheaper and give more exp then Dag bones.

However they're 16.79 gp/xp while frosts are 19.05 gp/xp.

The difference is close to 200k an hour in prayer exp

Sure, based on the assumption of some type of income per hour as if RS was your job, then sure go with the D Bones, there is absolutely no other choice at all.

Also, I don't recall my post speaking of anything "fun" because I would not consider training prayer fun in any form or fashion other than quest reward.

OP wanted to SAVE MONEY. You cant hardly beat 6.25 gp/xp if you take into account the OP is probably using money solely from selling items, but if you want to find a way to beat 6.25 gp/xp on a limited monetary supply, be my guest.

Sure Big Bones would take a long time and be difficult to work through, but they achieve original purpose of... wait for it... SAVING MONEY in the achievement of a goal.
