Barihawk
It could jump out and say the owner of this weapon is *, I dont really care aslong as it still hits good. I agree as long as the stats havent change i couldn't care. It is still the best weapon in the game and always will be. Wishful thinking is a bad thing futurodon..very bad. Your setting your self up for disappointment. Jagex would most likely come out with new weapons which will eventually be greater than an Abyssal Whip somehow. The guy who said that the whip has to be hit in a circular motion, I just want to add on that. In Soul Calibur II that Ivy lady spins here whip constantly for that reason?- Seems so..-.- You could also watch an Indiana Jones movie and see that most people use whips in that fashion. Whipping it in a circular motion nets more kinetic energy than just flailing it back and whipping it out like a towel in the locker room. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley
Spongehead91
Mod Ash said on the official forums that there have been graphical glitches with whips, flails and rubber chickens. The change in the whip was accidently made. I've stopped playing RuneScape. KoL's better.

Peronix
Well, I don't know if you guys would consider this weird or not, but I actually LIKE the way whips hit now, it actually looks a bit more like a 'whipping' motion :) But the rubber chicken just looks weird... I don't know about the flail. And, to clear up some things about the speed and accuracy of the whip; It's all in your head if you think it has changed in any way. It hits as hard, fast, and as accurately as ever for me

Magical_Food
I was told that it was another error like the trimmed skirts. The flail in the veracs set also was tweaked. It will be fixed though.

You couldn't be more wrong. Whips are made based on the conservation of energy and conservation of momentum. The extremely high velocity at the tip comes from the difference in mass between the tip and the handle. When whipping, your main focus is to move the handle at a VERY high velocity, and then completely stop the motion in the handle. This will create a wave effect, and will transfer the energy and some of the momentum up to the tip of the whip. Since there is LESS mass in the tip, there needs to be MORE velocity in the tip in order for energy to be conserved. The equation for kinetic energy is: KE=(1/2)mv^2 Since KE will always be the same as the mass decreases, it is obvious that the velocity must increase. If you use a "around the world" type motion that is shown in the new animation, you will NOT be able to do any damage with a whip. With this whipping technique, the velocity of the tip of the whip will ONLY be as fast as your arm is moving. As you may or may not know, the "cracking" sound that comes from a whip comes as a result of a miniature sonic boom. Unless you can move your arm faster than the speed of sound, a circular motion will not be effective at all. At most, minor welts will be left on BARE skin if you use this technique... When using a proper technique with an effective whip, it is very possible to shatter bones and even sever appendages. The ONLY way to get this effect is by using the motion similar to the motion of cracking a towel in the locker room. And in the future, make your comparisons to any footage of REAL whipping...not whipping seen in some movie. If you have any more questions about the physics behind a whip...be my guest. But this animation is FAR less accurate than it has ever been. Need assistance in any of these skills? Myweponsg00d
Hmm...well I thought about it a little bit more, and the circular motion of a whip WOULD generate a faster velocity at the tip, but it would NOT be fast enough to even come close generating a sonic boom. For tangential velocity circular motion, you need to take the radius of the circle times the angular velocity. The average man's arm is 2.5-3 feet in length. Some of the LONGEST whips are 6 feet in length. So, the radius from the shoulder to the tip of the whip would be THREE TIMES greater than the radius from the shoulder to the hand. This means that the tip of the whip will be moving three times as fast as the handle! Thats great, right? WRONG. If the whipper is able to move his hand at 100mph, that means the tip will travel at 300mph. Sounds pretty fast, right? Again...WRONG. The speed of sound is 761 mph. This means that an average man, with a 6 foot long whip, would need to move his hand at 254 miles per hour in order to generate the same whip effectiveness as the other technique would generate. I think that this would be beyond the ability of ANY human being. Need assistance in any of these skills? It's mainly about discussion as to whether or not the new animation is more realistic. Which if you look at page 4, you can see that it is LESS realistic 8) Need assistance in any of these skills? I think that this would be beyond the ability of ANY human being. Yeah, and Indiana Jone's did not kill people with his whip. After my own reflection, the circular method is for a non-lethal function of a whip...tangling it around something. The whip was used in warfare as a means to dismount or knock an armored knight off of his feet. Then, he would be open to normal melee attack. The handle method is a bit more lethal, and you rarely see people use it. It is almost useless against an armored opponent, extremely painful or deadly to an unarmored one. Therefore, the whole argument boils down to one thing: its just magic :P. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers.
