How far would you go in defence of a loved one/family?

Featured Replies

Many situations happen quickly, often in a split second, making you unable to spend a large amount of time thinking about it.

The situations can vary from one extreme to another (eg. a burglar breaking into your house - would you kill him in defence of your family? or your best friend is fighting with your sibling - whose side would you take?), often it can be difficult depending on the circumstances.

If one of my dearest's life were in danger, I'd go as far as doing what ever it took, even if I ended up in prison for it. If they were doing something like drugs, I wouldn't be able to do much about it except encourage them to seek help and stick by their side as they tried to fix the problem. If they chose not to, unfortunately, all I can do is sit back and hope, while vainly trying to convince them to get help.

In terms of taking sides, I'd only do so in the case that it's a serious situation. If it's something trivial, I'll let them figure it out themselves.

If my mom and/or dad was in a critical condition and only I was there to save their lives, I would not just try to save them, I would give up my life if necessary because I wouldn't

even exist if it weren't for them and since they: 1. Took care of me for almost my entire life 2. Saved my life more than 10 times before I turned 5, and 3. Are the ONLY

PEOPLE IN THE WORLD who wants whats best for me. This is not only true to me, but probably like 90-99.999...% of people in the world who HAVE parents.

Unless of course you've experienced said adrenaline rush. But, let's not derail the thread. lol

On another note, I would probably sacrifice whatever portion of my time is required if my grams was to get to the point where she needed a caretaker of sorts. I wouldn't want to send her off to a home, as she doesn't want that. She wants to live in her home until the day she passes. I wouldn't hesitate, not once, to give up my time to care for her.

I don't think that it would be a difficult decision to kill a burglar on sight since he would be a threat anyway (they could be armed).

If a best friend got into a fight with a sibling, it would depend on my relationship to my brother/sister which side I took.

Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.

It depends on the relationship with the person. There's a few people that I'd give my life to save without a second thought.

For the most part, I'd risk my life to save anyone, but I'd only give my life to save a few people.

I agree with the sibling/friend thing, seeing as my brother and I dont have the best relationship I can already tell which side I would take. But anyways, I constantly have those kinds of thoughts run through my head, especially at night and stuff like that. I dont think i could actually *kill* someone, but i would def hurt someone badly lol. Like say there was a burglar in my house or something, I (not even kidding) have things strategically placed throughout my house in case of said event (most of which my mom is aware of so she knows not to move them lol). But yeah, I have no problem with defending my family or people i like :^_^:

If it came down to dieing to save someone I love, I would. Iv no fear of death. If you try to mess with my family, you will have to kill me first.

I agree. Even though there are some things I like to think I'd do in certain situations, if it's something that requires instant reaction, chances are I'll freeze and do nothing, or panic and screw up (thinking about the burglar scenario here).

As for sacrificing my life for someone else's, I wouldn't. I hold my life in highest value, no matter how much I love others.

If it's two people fighting, I'll try to break them apart, but I wouldn't get on anyone's "side" until both of them are no longer fighting and cooled down a bit, just to not make it worse.

Would I kill a burglar? No. I couldn't bring myself around to do it. Not to say I wouldn't beat the [cabbage] out of him to defend my family, but I couldn't bring myself to kill another human being. I heard of a case here in New Zealand were some 15 year old stabbed someone who was robbing his house, and the kid got convicted because of it.

In terms of Sibling Vs. Best Friend, depends on who the friend was and what the argument was about really.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

When i was about 2 or 3 years old we had just moved into a new house. We built the house ourselves, which in those days in South Africa, especially in the neighborhood we lived in was a sign of some wealth. Needles to say we became a target for burglaries. So we had been living in the house for about 3 or 4 weeks when one day we got home from my mom's parents. As my dad got out of the car to open the garage door 5 black guys jumper out of nowhere. I guess they were around but we just didn't notice them because we weren't exactly looking out for them. So anyway 3 of them pull out guns. 1 of them pulled me and my sister out of the car (she was 5 or 6) and he took us inside the house and told us to go hide under the table. Anyway 2 of them dragged my dad out of the car and held a gun up to his head. The other two pulled my mom out of the car. I think the neighbor came outside (he was a very nosy person and would run outside whenever he heard our car in the driveway, probably to [bleep] about something like he usually did) and 2 of the guys ran off. The two that were holding my mom. Anyway my mom was instructed to get her purse out of her handbag. Now these were the good old days when people still carried guns with them. So my mom had her magnum in her handbag. To this day i am not sure what happens as we don't really talk about it, but somehow and for some reason the 3 guys that were left started running in different directions when they saw my mom's gun. My dad was yelling at her to shoot the guy. She once told me that no matter how much she hated them at that moment, no matter how badly she wanted to shoot them, it's just so much different and harder to do when you're in the position to do so.

Anyway, that being said, i would gladly take a bullet for any member of my family but i would never kill for them. I don't think i am strong enough to kill anyone.

I would do anything to protect my boyfriend, even if it meant sacrificing my own life.

or your best friend is fighting with your sibling - whose side would you take?)

Honestly it would depend on the argument lol. I would side with whoever I agreed with. I wouldn't base my opinion on the person.

In the case of conflicts and arguments, I always side with whoever I believe is right, family or not. I love my family, but I try my best not to let that get in the way of my true opinions on anything. Call me cold hearted, but the best way I could describe it is that I have an irrational (?) fear of knowingly taking the wrong side.

As for sacrificing, I don't really know. I don't know anyone I'd sacrifice myself to to save only their life, but I'd probably do it to save more than one.

I'd hurt someone badly to protect my family though. Kill them? No idea.

My sister vs. my friend?

My friend. He doesn't have to be right, neither. My sister is an idiot anyways.

As for killing bulgars? I would, but living in hippy California owning a gun and not getting charged with a gun fire is going to be too much of a hassle, so I'll just beat the crap out of the guy. If I can, of course.

Blood is thicker than water.

I will kill someone in defense of my family.

On that note, I have beaten the everliving [cabbage] of a kid for threatening my brother.

I believe California has a castle doctrine, which allows you to shoot anyone who is on your property uninvited and is a threat to you.

hypothetical threads are too inaccurate to know what the rush of adrenaline would do for your actions and thoughts.

Indeed, but it still makes for interesting conversation.

In the right situations, my adrenaline has been known to help me take action immediately - sometimes faster than I can think. If I would get myself physically involved with school fights to defend some friend of mine, I think that's pretty strong evidence that I'd do anything in my power to save my loved ones from being hurt.

I believe this is relevant to this thread;

Personally, I don't have any siblings, so I don't quite know how I'd react to that specific situation, but I'm sure I'd be willing to fight to protect my friends/family. Hmmmph

I thought this too, but seriously, if your life was on the line and you knew it for fact, adrenaline would most likely kick in and you would do whatever it took to save yourself.

If someone breaks into my house, and has any kind of weapon even if its just a baseball bat or something, he wouldn't make it out alive. If you break into someones house and are desperate enough to hurt an innocent person and take their hard-earned goods, you need to be shot.

Dspending on the situation I would kill for a loved one or relative but I could never

Face going to prison no matter how long a stay and id probably end up

Killing myself to avoid prison.

But this is only for extreme cases between life and death of a loved one or relative.

When it comes to family, the only ones I would actually risk my life for would be my sisters because I feel like I owed them a debt. Of course, I wouldn't go to immense extremes that crosses certain boundaries of course, but I'd defend them nonetheless. Of course, I usually put certain friends above family in those cases.

Whatever it takes. Not sure who would admit that they wouldn't do whatever it takes to stop harm from being inflicted upon their family.

There are occasions where I feel strongly enough about someone not related to me (ie. potential girlfriend since I'm never out of friend zone) that I would do drastic things like jump infront of a car/bullet/killer for them if it gives them that little extra chance of surviving the ordeal.

However, when the bare minimum feelings aren't reciprocated (ie. the 'wanna be more than friends'), they can go [bleep] themselves and I will tell them that if I felt about them that strongly when I did like them.
