The Back Room

Aaaaand yet another anime on my too-long list.

Have you ever seen 'A Certain Magical Index', Lei?

PM...

If you are asking everyone then fine, fair enough, but you are asking Lei because you already know/highly suspect that only Lei will respond. Ergo, use PM rather than discuss it on the open thread, to which people have already voiced concerns.

And while I am sure there are many ways to phrase it so as to still post the question, that is not the point, and we both know it. I mean, if there was some indepth discussion and something to actually talk about, then yes, Anime does constitute a valid topic. But there isn't, it merely comes down to 'Have you seen?' and 'I think its good/bad' which is more suited to instant message services, or private message services...or specialist forums, as Neferast has already suggested.

And no, this is not 'against the rules' or whatever, this is about having semi-mature working environment, rather than a lot of people getting frustrated and insisting that the backroom needed to be closed (as happened last time).

So yes, continue in your current vein at your own peril.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Yet you still verbally mope about it here? Either you can talk to us about it, or you can't, methinks.

You know that every year, 15 million children die of hunger.

Replaced for clarity.

A valid point, isn't it terrible how people complain about their life when around 15 million children die of hunger every year.

Should I post statistics for sex slavery and child abuse as well? Or have I illustrated the point enough.

It certainly is.

So, about how much do you donate, per year?

Not really, we all have our own burdens and it is better that we are concerned about ourselves than concerned about random strangers.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

And you could add onto the end: 'And even moreso if they aren't actually in poverty'

It certainly is.

So, about how much do you donate, per year?

For consistency: the same amount that I donate to teenage angst charities.

I fail to see what point you're even making anymore.

I think making qualitative judgements about people's lives is debasing.

For instance, if all those starving children suddenly got food, does that mean we care about them less?

Really, people who go 'Oh your problems are insignicant compared to X' are the same people who created the problems 'You should do more work little slaves, there are people in other places who are bereft of our mighty wisdom.'

So just leave the starving children alone, and leave other people alone.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

15 million children die of hunger in Africa every year, obviously this is a very sad. If they did get food (and shelter, and other things that constitute a better life) then my caring for them is completely irrelevent. Whether I care for them or not, they're still all having a pretty bad time.

Leiana lives in a first world country with access to clean drinking water, good food, free education and a computer.

Oh right, sorry, God, I didn't know you knew what was best for other people. Clearly forcing our way of life on them is better than allowing them to develop of their own accord.

No, leave them the hell alone and don't concern yourself with their plight. We, in Europe, had many millions of children die year on year and it created a contient that dominated most of the planet's surface, so why should we assume that millions of children dying in Africa is not a good thing?

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I don't see how it isn't. It'll result in a lot less pain and death.

Children dieing is sad, the post was made to make Leiana feel guilty for complaining about her own problems.

Unless it fails....Like it did in Russia, India, Ireland, Native America, Latin America, South America, Cuba, The Middle East, Pakistan, Cyprus, Africa...You know, all those places that we tried to intervene in and it caused lots of death and pain.

And Lei has the right to be concerned with her own problems more than a bunch of other people.

This is why I have a problem with 'Liberals' they go around telling people how they are supposed to live their life...and as a result they turn disasters into catastrophies, and then go 'Well, if we hadn't been there it would have been considerably worse.' based on the sure-fire belief that they can't possibly be wrong...based on no evidence what so ever.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I'm not telling anybody how to live their life, I'm simply stating that because there are worse problems nobody cares about your insignificant ones. In the examples you listed, the problems occured because the members of the country being helped decided that thought they new better, when in fact because of their fighting against it they are now worse off than they would have been if they'd have just let to the other country help them.
