Squeal of Fortune Bug

Featured Replies

Hello!

I don't play Runescape anymore but once in a while I log on all of my accounts just to spin the Squeal of Fortune, just in case I win something big (not likely but you never know). Anyway I noticed that whenever I won the 50 GP prize, I would only receive 1 GP! Why?!? :XD: Winning 50 GP is bad enough but getting only 1 GP is like a kick in the pants. OK, maybe I'm being overly dramatic, but has anyone else noticed this? Also I could have sworn that I won a small experience lamp in ranging but received one for firemaking instead. However I don't trust my memory so don't take my word as fact on that one.

So I'm wondering, is this just a glitch with the rewards screen showing the wrong prize or are actual wrong prizes being handed out? What could make the SoF act like this? Is there a super, super, super, rare chance of me getting a free green partyhat with this bug? I would hate to legitimately win a super rare prize and then receive something else. I submitted a bug report about it and Jagex replied saying that they will look into it. Plus they refunded me 2 SoF spins. :shades:

EDIT: Everything appears to be back to normal. Now I receive 50 GP when I win the 50 GP reward.

EDIT2: FML!!!! I actually won a super rare prize (huge lamp)!! But it's on a failed level 5 throwaway f2p account! WHY??!?! :wall:

Fine. I'll give you 98 gp.

I think I clicked discard out of spite whenever I received such a low reward, so I'm not sure.

That's terrible

ive never felt so cheated before in my life

demanding reimbursement. a divine will do, jagex, ty

Well, as of 5 minutes ago the 50gp spin rewards give 50gp as a reward, and given the fact that it is 2-3AM Jagex time I do not think they put in a hot fix anytime recently.

I'll bet you 50gp that the money is hiding in your money pouch

edit: nvm saw your pouch was in pic too

I heard this happens for other, more rarer rewards too. One of my friends won some curved horns, but after clicking claim he got 50 gp instead. He spent $1200 on spins too. He's devestated.

And this is why Jagex is such a crappy company. No customer support.

JaGex says SOF isn't gambling because you never lose. If they aren't paying out the 50gp when a player wins, then you aren't "not losing". Nothing is going to happen because of this (no one is going to make a case out of a tiny bug) but it's interesting to see.

Not sure how things would go if say, you win a swagger stick, and get 3 cowhide deposited.

E: I was using the 0gp win as a hypothetical. There may be a safety in game that gives the played 1gp to avoid legal problems in the future. It would be really smart on their part but shitty that they can't code something as simple as this.

Actually... You never win, as none of the items in the game have any real world value whatsoever (And in fact don't even belong to the player). A court of law would not judge the difference between 50gp, 3 cowhide, a cabbage and a lucky divine spirit shield. Casinos can't start offering $0.01 prizes on losses and not need a gambling license.

Have you actually gone through the trouble to contact them?

I can say from personal experience that Jagex has a much greater customer support than people give them credit for. Perhaps people are just too lazy to put in the effort to contact them. i had 3 Mods falling over their own feet for 3 days now to make sure that they do everything possible to help me solve an issue. I got my replies from them promptly as well. Never had to wait more than a few minutes for a response.

The problem with players is that they want everything done for them.

I just tried the SoF for all my accounts again and everything seems to be working properly now. I got my 50 GP as promised! (Still a crappy reward but whatever  ) Looks like what ever happened didn't last long.

I can confirm receiving exp in the wrong skill yesterday, lamp said Firemaking but I received Agility.

You make it sound like running through a few level 87 monsters is hard which it really shouldn't be at your level.

I agree with him. I posted on account hijacking about a friend who phished me. They actually banned him/her. I was like damn thats pro, didn't get my stuff back but considering he/she had 20 99s. A lot of wasted time. but yet mods are actually there if you need help. Well at least when I asked them. I didn't even know it until the person raged PM me on alt and said they were going to cut themselves and they didn't do it. I was just like good game life and ignored.

In case you didn't see it in my first post, I won a huge lamp on my crappiest failed f2p account. -.- Is that worth claiming? I feel awful discarding it...

This happened to me to actually... didn't really think much of it, but I won a small mining lamp and received a small defence lamp.

I beg to differ.

You won the super rare prize because you were on a level 5 and a nonmember. Probably wanted to rope you into buying membership

odd, I won 10M today from free spins without any issues. (haha)

"The more persistence a game tries to have; the longer it is set up to last; the greater number (and broader variety) of people it tries to attract; and in general the more immersive a game/world it set out to be--then the more breadth and depth of human experience it needs to support to be successful for more than say, 12-24 months. If you try to create a deeply immersive, broadly appealing, long-lasting world that does not adequately provide for human tendencies such as violence, acquisition, justice, family, community, exploration, etc (and I would contend we are nowhere close to doing this), you will see two results: first, individuals in the population will begin to display a wide range of fairly predictable socially pathological behaviors (including general malaise, complaining, excessive bullying and/or PKing, harassment, territoriality, inappropriate aggression, and open rebellion against those who run the game); and second, people will eventually vote with their feet--but only after having passionately cast 'a pox on both your houses.' In essence, if you set people up for an experience they deeply crave (and mostly cannot find in real life) and then don't deliver, they will become like spurned lovers--somebecome sullen and aggressive or neurotic, and eventually almost all leave."
